NATO - Georgia - Russia - Correct Hypo

Ok, in the previous hypo I have been unclear. I thought it was clear to me that Russia wasn't the agressor, but apparently to some it wasn't clear. My mistake. So we have a new Hypo:
August 1st - Georgia joins NATO.
August 8th - Georgia launches an attack on South Ossetia AND deliberately hits the Russian Side of the Roki Tunnel. The Tunnel somehow does not collapse, but there are casualties amongst the North Ossetians, some of whom are from Besland and Russian Citizens, both civillian and military. Georgia also attacks Russian troops which Georgia has allowed to be stationed in the area. Russia responds.
Everything else is the same, war or no war?
In this situation no, because it is clear that Georgia has launched the aggression against russia. That means that this is a peace-keeping or defence mission, its an invasion by Georgia against Russia - which NATO should not support.

Aug 9th. Georgia is kicked out of NATO for stupidity. Scenario done.
Nope not at all, in fact I believe staunchly that even if the US wanted to aid Georgia in the real scenario, it was not a possibility.

No. This is what you get for poking the sleeping bear with a stick you stupid Georgians.

What? No.
That scenario just gives a stupid carte blanche for any NATO member to act unilaterally without fear of reprisal because their allies will leap to their defence. NATO wasn't intended for that - at all.

In this case, no.
Of course, as to who is the aggressor in the conflict in the real world remains unclear, we cannot be quite so certain. The Russian military has been sauntering around in increased numbers in the Caucusus regions of the country for quite some time, and an argument can be made that Russia tried to get the Georgians to provoke.
Obviously no. NATO would kick Georgia out for something that stupid.

Insistence on a strictly proportionate response from Russia, yes, as useless as it might be to insist on such. But absolutely no war.

Yes! I was hoping someone would have said this!
So I guess outside of my hypo, the only question is as to who is the agressor. That might make for an interesting debate. Maybe in a few days I'll make a poll about that. As for Saakashvili, purging your army before attacking isn't really considered intelligent. Not that he's the only Georgian who's done that. Anyways, keep up the voting and the commentary. Anyone for yes? Anyone?

August 15th? Damn, I was thinking earlier. Georgia's Army: The Few! The Proud! The Very Very Quick Retreaters! I loved the Ukrainian Leader's comments:
Initially "If Russian Navy dares to return to Sevastopol, we will challenge them!"
Russian Navy dares to return to Sevastopol.
"We are conducting an exercize in mandatory withdrawal. This exercize was part of our original plan!"
Yushenko - best comments of the war hands down!
