Hmm... I have invented a couple drinks I believe...
One was Rum and Coke (in this case Pepsi), but with the addition of a very large degree of soy sauce. I would not recommend that one to those who aren't masochists.
The other was whisky, soy milk (sounds disgusting, I know), and a large dose of maple syrup (real maple syrup, not the log cabin shit). This sounds really foul, but it's actually really good and tastes vaguely like maple sugary oatmeal.
As for my favorite traditional cocktail... it's gotta be the Bloody Mary.
I like good beer better than any cocktails, though.

Rum, Triple Sec, and a little bit of Rose's Sweet Lime Juice.

Rum and blue curazao in thick mango juice, that's my contribution to the cocktail world.
As for classics, ol' Cuba Libre, as long as the rum isn't good enough as to drink it dry.

While hanging out with some college friends (we went to BU) I invented a cocktail that involved absurd amounts of liquor, orange juice, and Mountain Dew. We called it the "Charles River" because it looked like sludge and tasted like radioactive sludge.

I've recently discovered the amazing properties of the Four Horsemen Pure Whiskey with Hell Following.
It entails Jim Beam, Jack Daniel's, Johnny Walker Red, and Jameson's Irish. The normal variant use Jose Cuervo Tequila instead of Jameson's, but I prefer the whiskey. Hell following is Everclear.
However, I simply name it as: Jim, Jack, John, James and Hell.

I'm aware of the drink, but it's Mojito, not "Mohito".
The proper mojito uses "yerbabuena" leaves, not mint ones, although mint makes a standard substitute if yerbabuena isn't available.

The Bloody Awful:
2 shots of cheap vodka
Bit of table salt
Hit of some random hot sauce you found in the back of your girlfriend's cupboard
Mustard
A shot of soy sauce
The residual liquid from a bottle of Sprite you had been drinking 2 hours earlier
Fill the rest of the glass with V8 (then realize that it was actually V8 Splash, not the tomato stuff)
Then insert it into your urethra via a small pipette, because even though that will be agonizingly painful, it will still be better than trying to swallow the vile mix.

Sounds like an expansion of the Three Wise Men.
Dirty gin martini, shaken with an olive or two.
1.5 oz gin, .5 oz vermooth, dash of juice/brine from a jar of olives, into a martini mixer with some ice for a couple of shakes then into a glass with some olives on a toothpick.
I think the olive juice gives it a bit of more of an interesting flavour.
Although I've also made some delicious concoctions with cherry whiskey, amaretto and perhaps some regular whiskey...? I only did this once at my bf's house so I can't remember exactly what I put in it.
Oh, and long island ice teas are good if you have a good bartender (or are making them yourself), but they can also be terrible if you have a bad bartender.

Just the london dry in the green bottle. TBH you can use any decentish gin, it's just there to add a little juniper. You could probably change the vodka around too. I happen to be a grey goose person, so it's pretty much all I keep around.

Rusty Nail, Tequila Sunrise, Gin & Tonic, Frozen Pina Colada, Screwdriver, Harvey Wall Bangers...
Best original:
WW III
2 oz Grand Marnier
2 oz Bailey's Irish Cream
2 oz Kahlúa
2 oz Vodka
2 oz Creme de Cacao
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Ice cream goes in a parfait glass, if you have one.
Booze goes over the ice cream, in reverse order.

Do rum and gin tend to go together well? I don't think I've ever had both in the house at the same time and I only really ever drank dark rum to begin with.

Yay!
Given the number of people who think that martinis are supposed to have random liqueurs in them it's nice to come across somebody who knows what dirty means in this context. I've actually been tempted to go to the martini lounge and see if they know what I mean when I ask for a dirty gin martini (I would have to specify the gin part otherwise I'd probably get vodka). They've got a complicated menu full of chocolatey, fruity things that have no business being called martinis.

Bloody Mary made with wasabi and soy instead of horseradish and Worcestershire sauce. (be careful with the ratios though)
A good margarita on the rocks with a Grand Marnier floater and a splash of OJ.
Carribbean Rum Punch (not the official name, but in the Islands they dispense with all the fancy names only the tourists like and do a basic variation of the same recipe). My favorite version while visiting would be equal parts light rum, dark rum, coconut rum, spiced rum, with OJ, Pineapple Juice and a splash of Apricot Brandy and grenadine over ice in the biggest glass you can find. My favorite garnish with this one is a hammock between to coconut palms.

Yes, but they require more effort than the simple pop of tab or twist of a cap. Creating drinks isn't a mindless task, and seeing as I lost mine 3 or 4 years ago, I guess the two of us don't quite mesh.
