Thats right, Dubai, home of the world's tallest building (which they are to have finished in Sept. 09) has unvieled its master plan to build a structure that would be as tall as three Chrystler buildings stacked on on top of the other. The structure would be more than 587 Smoots tall!

I wish they at least had a concept picture of it.
But wow, kilometer tall buildings now. It makes me wonder when those will become the norm.

I must drop a water balloon from it...

I thought you'd be happy to know its just over half a Kilo-Smoot tall.

Indeed. .587 kilosmoots is indeed impressive.

Not for some time. These things are expensive, and projects like this are hangover from the times of cheap credit. Commercial real estate is taking one hit after another (not as much in Dubai, but you get the general picture), and I have my doubts you'll have many projects like this announced in the next two years or so.

I love how the titles for both threads are nearly identical.

Well, once the credit crisis hits the Third World in force there will be plenty of fresh slave labor to build it.

We should smash a plane into it.

Muchos gracias. (I'm so lazy. :))
Well, it certainly looks impressive.

Something I noticed in the article...

Burj Dubai is being built primarily by immigrant engineers and workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and the Philippines.[31] Press reports indicate that skilled carpenters at the site earn US$7.60/day, and laborers earn US$4.00.

Boring! It's been done. Let's smash a giant pie the size of the Astrodome into it. :)

Including the pie tin? Good idea. We'd need some specialized equipment, but certainly we're up to the task. For the best effect, the pie should hit it when they officially open the building. With all that ribbon cutting and such people like to do at events like that. So it will go "snip" and then a couple seconds later "splat".
