My favorite unit of distance measurement, the Smoot just celebrated it's 50th anniversary!

I'm 1.12 Smoot lengths.
I notice that the length of the bridge in Smoots is almost exactly the length of the year in days.
coincidence? I think not.

All part of my fiendish master plan.
Unfortunately, I forgot what the other parts are, so I guess I'm self-foiling again.

You're short. Probably like 1.18. What's 6'1 in Smoots?

you're tall but not that tall. 1.18Smoots is like 6'7". You're a strapping 1.09 Smoot length long.
Apparently, I'm 1.02832295 smoots (http://www.google.com/search?q=how+many+smoots+in+175+centimeters&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) tall (anybody know the rounding policies of the Google Calculator?)

It could be worse. You could be self-soiling again.

Doesn't the smoot vary depending on the time of day/length of hair/decapitation status of Mr Smoot?

So not only is the US not getting into SI. We are inventing new units of measurement to make us even farther from. Glad to see we are heading in the right direction.
1.1 smoots By the way

Tell me you aren't interested in measuring long distances in kilosmoots or even megasmoots and I'll call you a liar. ;)

I vote that the Smoot become the official unit of measurement for NS General!

I wonder how much distance a Smootyear is?

1 lightyear=5.55913057 × 10^15 smoots
That's a lightyear expressed in smoots. A SMOOTyear would be the distance one would cover in one year if one traveled at the speed of Oliver Smoot.

Is that the average speed over the course of his lifetime, or his maximum achieved speed?

Is that the average speed over the course of his lifetime, or his maximum achieved speed? The speed at which he somersaults.
Well we can approximate a Smoot year by approximating the average human running speed of about 10 miles per hour. If we assume that Smoot can move at an average pace than 1 smoot year is approximatly: 87,658 Miles or 16,699.9 Smoots
So one smoot year is about 16.7 Kilosmoots.
ok..
One Kilosmoot is approximatly 5,583.3 feet or 1.7 Kilometers
One Smoot is 67 inches or 1.7 Meters
One Centismoot is 6.7 inches or 17 Centimeters
A Decasmoot is 100 Kilosmoots
A Kilosmoot is 100 Smoots
A Centismoot is 1/10 of a smoot
A Milismoot is 1/100 of a smoot
A Smootyear could be approximated by 16.6 Kilosmoots

So, I was working tonight at a place right near Fenway park. And I was talking to my table, assuming they were there for the game...very nerdy looking guys. I ask them if they're going to the game. They told me "No...we're from LXA. we're going to walk the bridge measured in smoots"
Is that the average speed over the course of his lifetime, or his maximum achieved speed?
I'm not sure. I'm just being nice enough to him to not measure it as his speed through a VACUUM.
