NaNoWriMo '08!

So, it's almost November...
NaNoWriMo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NaNoWriMo) begins in under a month!
I'm planning on participating; this will be my first one... I heard about it last year but not until it had started, and I didn't think I could catch up.
I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to write, yet--I have two or three ideas that I am trying to decide between.
Anybody else going to go for it?
Gonna try again... :p
Edit: Username is still Junii

I've considered it.

I've considered it.
Any idea what you're going to write (in Soheran's case, if you end up doing it)?
I'm already starting to do a good bit of world-building mentally, for two of my possibilities, one of which is an idea that has floated around my head as a RPG campaign setting for a little while now-- a fantasy setting set a bit "later" in the world's history than most settings-- with the musket and bayonet as the primary soldier's weapon, though swords and such might still play into it more than they would have historically, especially since I'd include some level of magic.
The other is a more generic fantasy setting that I've developed a bit mentally, though not as much as the first... I've got a few more fleshed out characters in mind, though.
I'm also slightly considering a somewhat low-tech Sci-Fi. (Think Firefly's level of technology)
Oh, and I'm Debeo Scribere on there, if anybody wants to add me. :)
I was going to do it last year..unfortunately school decided to kill me with papers during that time period...I might try it this year...
I am either going to write about a love story, or a fictional war, based off an older video game. :)

I would try, but I will be somewhat occupied during November.

Um Yeah, I'll stick with Thanksgiving and my birthday thank you.

I've almost done it for the past four years or so, but never actually written anything for it. I suspect I will do the same again this year.

Do you even get a worthy prize for all the work?

Almost the minute I subscribed last year, my workload doubled and all my free(ish) time disappeared. I haven't decided about this year, yet... but I'm thinking I'll probably be skipping it. :(

This will be my 4th year. I actually won last year. Apparently the trick is like writing a hell of a lot and not editing while you go and also writing a hell of a lot.

That is it, just finish writing and you will win as it seems.

Well, yeah. You write a 50K word novel in a month and you win. Everyone who doesn't loses, especially the people who give up, they fail the most.
My novel was finished about the 18th and had about 75K words.
I won. I'm a winner, right up until Nov 1st, then I'm a loser until I finish again.

Sounds intense. Kudos to you all for even doing it. I, myself, am mostly illiterate and extremely lazy.
Any idea what you're going to write (in Soheran's case, if you end up doing it)?
There are two ideas floating in my head, both non-Earth fantasy, but with vastly different styles.
I've wanted for a while to write an unabashedly heroic fantasy story, with selfless heroes courageously defending the innocent from horrific evil... it's the ultimate escapism, I guess, but I'm not convinced that it follows that it be boring or irrelevant, not if the details of the plot have enough power. And if it is, well, it doesn't really matter, does it?
On the other hand, I've been re-examining some of my ideas from a few years ago, and I've found a more "realistic" one that I like a lot... I'm not really sure where to go with it, but I'll come up with something.
I, myself, am mostly illiterate and extremely lazy.
I'm not illiterate, but I am extremely lazy. If I do it, I'll be very surprised if I succeed.

For the past three years I've tried, but November is the worst possible month for me. It is right before exams, when every class has at least one (sometimes two) significant papers due, and then there's Thanksgiving travel, etc.
If only it were July or January.
It'll be my third year. The first year, I won; the second year, I barely attempted to and of course never did; this year, there's a bit at stake and I'll try hard.
P.S. Took this as the chance to go and re-activate my account for this year and found all last year's NSG Writing Buddies I had added from the thread we had then - unfortunately, I can only tell Smunkee, Pancake and TJ Hairballs apart - who're the rest again?

Maybe. I've got time on my hands, since I haven't been able to find a job yet. If I did, I'd probably try to write an alternate history novel. I've got a couple of vague ideas rattling around in my head. One invovles a world where the Viking settlements in North America didn't die off, another one would be a world where events like the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Bolshevik Revolution, etc. either failed or never occurred, and a handful of empires run the world. If I tried to do that sort of thing though, I certainly wouldn't be finished in time for this year's contest.

I always tell myself that I'll do it, but the truth is I never do. It requires EFFORT. *gasp*

Write it in your native tongue if you want, then! You can write the novel in any language you like. :)

That being said, your English is quite good. If you had not mentioned it, I would not have guessed it's a second language for you.
You can check the link in my sig and see how long it's been since I updated my serialized novel (I HAVE to get back to writing that soon) so the answer is probably no.

I thought that my English was quite good until my BF once asked me whom I quoted because I spoke more correct. I did get a 1 (that's the highest mark) in English in college though.
Edit: Anyone else planning a political story?

While I doubt my story will be about politics, there are certain political issues I might try to comment on indirectly.

Definitely doing it this year. I'm not employed, my studies are part-time and my volunteer work is flexible, so no excuse not to! Got plenty of ideas too, so I'm hoping to finish it.
Might try it...I've got the time, for once.
