I'm just posting here a big thank you to all members of the forum who took part in my study on Personality and Social behaviour. I've now just finished data collection and I know not everyone will have put an e-mail address in (that and quite a few of them bounced :( ) so to make sure everyone gets the thank you, I'm posting it here.

Thank you also for your patience to all those who completed the study at the beginning, we were not able to analyse the data until we had received all responses, so we could not give you any updates prior to now.

The prize draw will be taking place this week and the lucky winners will be informed on Friday. If you don’t hear anything, I’m afraid that will mean you did not win.

Now that the study is complete, I can tell you a bit more about the precise study aims, and specifically which social behaviours we were looking at (although the questionnaires were quite transparent in this regard). Precise details weren't given out prior to people doing it as it could have affected how people respond. The aim of this study was to look at how people’s personalities, their empathy and their social skills affected their use of aggression. We were looking specifically at social forms of aggression, including behaviours such as social exclusion, malicious gossiping, spreading false rumours, emotional manipulation and using hurtful humour. This type of aggression is particularly interesting as it tends to be associated with high intelligence and social skills, and is very common within work situations. We wanted to see if certain personality traits and empathy would either reduce or increase the use of this type of aggression.

We are still in the process of analysing the data and as promised, a summary of our results will be posted here once I have analysed these. This should be by the end of October. If after hearing the precise details of the data collection you wish to have your data removed from the study, just e-mail me (gcw102 @ york . ac . uk) and I will ensure this is the case. All data will be kept anonymously and securely and no individually identifying features will be used during the study.
