I don't see how they're going to have James Cromwell do anything but sit down the entire movie, since he's like nine feet tall.

I really liked Oliver Stone's Nixon (trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReHJdfo8iEM), and I intend to see W.

Exactly.

That, and Oliver Stone has not been a good director for a while.

Watch Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo (if you can tolerate teener-boy sexual and potty humor) for a good sendup of Dubya toward the end.

I think he should have waited until the strong, emotion based opinions on Bush (regardless of what you think of him) simmered down. That way, there will be a stronger historical perspective on Bush rather than an emotional, "Aw man, I hate that guy!" attitude.

Personally, I think there should be a general rule of thumb that autobiographical movies should only to be made after the person's death.

I'm not defending the Bush administration (I disagree with him as much as the next man), but as a historian, I think this is extremely premature.

This movie's timing has nothing to do with history, it's perfectly timed to maximize the box office gross. Hollywood is more about money than any sinister political agendas or historical analysis.

If it's anything like the show "Lil Bush" it'll be worse than anything Bush could possibly manage to do in office.

Don't you mean biographical movies? An autobiography is written by the book's subject.

Just because it seems entirely strange and out of place, and im sure its going to draw a lot of fire. Plus it looks funny as hell...

It does seem a bit too soon.

I felt the same about that september 11th movie though. Too soon.

I agree. I think waiting until his death would be a bit long, but they should wait until at least 2018.

The only thing worse than Lil Bush is the knowledge that Comedy Central bought two seasons of that show. Why? WHY?!

His willingness to play fast and loose with the facts, and to try to garner controversy, makes me less than willing to see this film in theaters, but, I may watch it on DVD someday.

Platoon was the last good and accurate movie he made.

EDIT: Wallstreet wasnt awful (but wasnt good either), did that come out before or after?

Very much so, and the use of Jungian archetypes in the film was pretty fascinating.

It was the one that came out immediately after Platoon. Like you said, it was neither awful nor good.

And then there was Alexander which was accurate in four ways. Alexanders relationship with his mom, Alexander's mom being batshit, Alexander's relationship with his mentor (the touching parts at least) and how the Maecedonian pike Phalanx faught.

Otherwise, it was just evidence of Oliver Stone's increasing insanity.

Quite.

Look at the films he is slated to be involved in: An adaptation of The Fountainhed, he's received permission to make a film about Ahmadinejad, a movie about the Martin Luther King Junior assassination, a movie entitled Jawbreaker (srsly?) about the US response to the Sep. 11 2001 terrorist attacks, and something else.

Not exactly a portfolio I am holding my breath to see.

The only possible explanation that would make sense to the human mind is that that piece of spectacular non-Uwe Boll-crapsterpiece was earmarked to the budget for renewing contracts with The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

He's got pretty rocky relations with Iran, given that when he tried to pull it off the first time, Ahmadinejad called him the "Great Satan".

I'm not kidding. Oli Stone=The Great Satan.

Ahmedinejad is merely a loudmouth puppet with the Supreme Council's collective hand up his anus making him talk.

Kinda like Hugo Chavez. No wonder they get along fabulously.

They could both be the latest addition to Jeff Dunham's "family".

Is it a sequel to V? Though I never really understood quite where the rodent munching Diana, in that mini-series, came from in Thomas Pynchon's original script.
