Senator Obama's stance on ANWR with Bill O'Reilly

O'REILLY: Let's start drilling in ANWR. What are you…

OBAMA: Who's arguing with you?

O'REILLY: Are you afraid it's…

OBAMA: ANWR, I think, is a problem.

O'REILLY: What, a caribou is going to be scared? Come on. You're with the folks that can't pay their heating bill and you're worried about a caribou going, what's that pipeline doing?

OBAMA: No, but I tell you — listen.

O'REILLY: What? What?

OBAMA: One of the great things about this country, we've got some beautiful real estate here.

O'REILLY: Oh, come on, nobody goes to ANWR. Nobody runs shuttles up there.

OBAMA: We are lucky to have some of the most beautiful real estate on earth. And we want to make sure that…

O'REILLY: You're making me cry here.

OBAMA: We want to make sure we're passing it on to the next generation. But this notion that I'm opposed to nuclear power, it's just not true.

O'REILLY: I don't want to hear pristine. I don't want to hear caribou.

OBAMA: It's not…

O'REILLY: I want to hear…

OBAMA: ...that hard to understand.

O'REILLY: …we're going to get this many new plants, we're going to put this much into solar. We're going to get this, this, this. And that would drive down the price of oil.

OBAMA: I'll help you.

O'REILLY: No, it's your deal. I'm not running for anything.

OBAMA: No, no, no. I'll make sure to send that plan so that you can start advertising it for us.

O'REILLY: Well, you can come back on and tell me.

OBAMA: I look forward to it.

The above was an excerpt of Bill O'Reilly's interview with Senator Obama. What do you get from this and what is your stance on this issue?

FYI, even John McCain is against drilling in ANWR.

Regardless, drilling for oil isn't going to solve our energy problems anymore than giving a dime bag helps a junkie.

1) O'Reilly doesn't know how to do an interview.

2) Obama is laughing at him.

3) The OP gives us no point to debate.

That's what I get from it.

And my stance on the issue of oil drilling in ANWR is that it is a boondoggle that will harm much and produce little or nothing.

FYI I never said that McCain was for drilling ANWR. I already knew he wasn't, which is driving conservatives away from him.

I'm waiting for someone to sit there quietly until his tirade is over and then ask him if he's done and/or promise not to interrupt him and make him promise the same, then call him on it when he inevitably breaks it, etc.

Basically, O'Reilly's guests need to start acting like it's their show. Their turf. Put O'Reilly off his beat.

I agree with you, Geniasis, that would be very interesting to see O'Reilly with his foot in his mouth. Now show me someone who can actually do that.

Bill O'Reilly? Why the fuck would Obama talk to that scuzbucket? Was Rush Limbaugh booked? Is there any man, woman or child on television less relevant than Bill O'Reilly? I value Dora the Explorer's opinion more. :p

ANWR? What now?

Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (http://arctic.fws.gov/)

There is some oil under it, so some think we need to destroy it in the name of progress.

FWIW, here is Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Refuge_drilling_controversy) on the controversy.

Oy, does anybody else have any idea where we can get our oil? China and Cuba are parallel drilling off our coasts. We are spending millions of dollars in foriegn oil. Yes, new innovative energy methods will help, but America needs to decrease its dependence on foreign oil.

As I was trying to illustrate with my junkie example, domestic oil production isn't going to solve our dependence on foreign oil.

We simply don't have that much oil to drill for--even if we destroy ANWR--compared to how much we use.

Options. The nice thing about electric cars is that they don't care what the electricity was generated from. On the other hand, I can't fill my current car up with maple syrup and make it go.

If oil is in direct competition with solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen and anything else that can power a house or car, the real winner is the American Economy and the real losers are OPEC. *nod*

AMEN! I like you! What you forgot to mention is natural gas, there are many abundant sources of that in the US. I think that by state's resources certain types of cars are made for a specific fuel. Now the problem is getting energy in another state...

...China and Cuba are parallel drilling off our coasts...

Oh for fucks sake! This so not true. Just because the neo-cons keep saying it doesn't make it so.

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/12/mel-martinez-v-cheney/

In his speech, Cheney claimed that China is pumping for oil off the coast of Florida, noting that “even the Communists” understand the need for more drilling:

"It’s my own view that we should be drilling in ANWR in an environmentally responsible way, which could increase our daily domestic oil production by as much as a million barrels a day. As for other locations, George Will pointed out in his column the other day that oil is being drilled right now 60 miles off the coast of Florida. But we’re not doing it, the Chinese are, in cooperation with the Cuban government. Even the communists have figured out that a good answer to high prices is more supply."

Armed with maps and reports, Sen. Mel Martinez – a Florida Republican who served in Bush’s cabinet – took to the Senate floor to dispute Cheney’s claim:

"Despite what is cited as fact here in the Senate and in other places, China is not drilling off the coast of Cuba. … Reports to the contrary are simply false. … So any talk of using some fabricated China/Cuba connection as an argument to change U.S. policy, in my view, has no merit."

Daniel J. Weiss, senior fellow and director of climate strategy at the Center for American Progress, disputed Cheney’s prescription. “The only people who would benefit from more oil drilling are the oil companies,” he said.
