Likely or Unlikely?

Okay, here's a scenario:
Barack Obama wins the election, and the economy crashes and burns anyway. The soldiers are still stuck in Iraq, and there's an actual increase of deployments to Afghanistan.

John McCain wins the election, and the economy crashes and burns anyway. The soldiers are still stuck in Iraq, and there's an actual increase of deployments to Afghanistan.

...Okay, this is just a hypothetical, but it's possible. So, if this happens, does it really matter who we elect? Would we still blame it on Bush?

Third possibility:

Either one wins, the country teeters on collapse and I start a revolution and save the country from destruction. The end.

Well, for the first year, yeah. The first year is generally when the policies of the last president, especially of the lame duck variety, phase out.

I mean, the same didn't apply for Bush, because he had to deal with September 11th, and a lot of the legislation and policies enacted then were put in place immediately, and a lot of the economic structure of the time was dramatically changed.

Join me, and together we shall rule the world as...well...can I adopt you? This might make it a little more easy to quote movie lines and such.

Yeah, but then Zilam will become a pariah, and he will use his power to crown himself Czar of America. Communism will wash over the land and his body will lie in state for a decade in the annuls of Washington D.C. until it stinks up the place so bad that it needs to be properly buried.

I hope that, if you ever look back on this, that I only meant this in the kindest of ways, your excellency. XD

As far as being serious for your OP, I think it is important who we elect, mainly because the policies on dealing with what ever tragedies that happen will be greatly different. One could lead us down a path of doom and gloom, and the other could lead us to a pristine position in the world again.

So, if this happens, does it really matter who we elect?

yes. crisis allows the possibility for rising to the occasion to achieve something great. therefore it is vitally important to not get it completely and utterly wrong. we've seen what happens when incurious idiots are empowered and crises happens.

yes it matters.

after all, if McCain is elected, it will be his fault along with all the Republicans that we're in this mess.

If Obama is elected, then it's Bush's fault along with all the Republicans that we're in such a mess that not even the great Obama can get us out of it.
