Pets!

Well I'm quite excited/annoyed that my family have bought a puppy a week after I've moved out. Annoyed because I begged for a dog for years, excited because my family has a pet at last! They bought a 12 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier and I want to see it now. Apparently it's a right little hyperactive dog who has taken to following my mother everywhere. If I wasn't so damn busy I would be back at my parents place to see this dog.

So how long have you had your pets, what are their quirks etc.?

Not, there's pit bulls, Staffordshire terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, bull mastiffs and pit bull mastiffs.

Anyway, pets can be nice, but are mostly annoying -- they need too much looking after. I think the most pets we ever had in my house at any one time was: two cats; two guinea pigs; one rabbit; and two gerbils.

I've had a corgi mix for almost 4 1/2 years and a bloodhound mix for 1 1/2. The corgi mix is about 5 years old and the bloodhound is 6 or 7 - not really sure.

They're both velcro dogs (ie. they follow me around). The bloodhound mix is the bigger dog, but he's terrified of everything. It's funny. The corgi mix definitely has the herding instinct, so he objects to people being out of place and responds by running into someone's ankles and/or barking at them.

Damn them. However I can't stay mad at the dog. It's too damn cute.

You don't have to deal with all the maintenance (like the poop), and when you visit you can spoil the dog rotten and leave your parents to deal with the consequences.

I have a little crossbreed terrier mix. He's almost 3 years old now, and I've had him since the day he was born.

As far as quirks, he's really skittish around males. I bring a girl to my apartment and he's all over them. But if I have a male friend over, even one my dog has seen countless times before, he'll bark, pee on the carpet a little, then hide under my bed for 30 minutes or so.

I've had a cat for almost 12 years now. He's adorable, though in his old age, he's become like a toddler. I swear to you, I haven't had a bodily function alone in four years. He's so cute, though, that it makes up for it.

I have eleven cats, counting the litter of three new kittens. I'm tempted to keep one, a longhaired ginger tabby. He just barely has his eyes open.
My older male might get jealous, though. He's very possessive. He's an eight year old solid black male who is convinced he owns me. Sleeps on my face. Goes by the very southern moniker of Bubba. I also have a black and white male named Squad Car.
Yes, I am the crazy cat lady.

Both of my dogs have a gender preference for girls too!

But they don't pee or anything. They're just more wary of guys.

I've got an 11 year old black cat. In very good shape for an indoor cat of that age, very friendly, patient, and sociable. And intelligent. He had none of the usual problems with moving to a new place or learning to use a litter box.

oh ok, thanks for the info.

my sister and i have taken on 2 dogs that the owners were unable to take care of. one maltese/poodle cross and one mini-daschund. we had to get the daschund neutered to stop it from urinating all over the (my sister's) house.

training is key to making any dog a good family member. all dogs should be trained to walk properly on a leash, to come to his name, to sit and stay, and any other fun tricks that might amuse you. (our dogs jump through the hoop which is highly amusing when the maltipoo can jump 2 feet but it has to be lowered to more like half a foot for the mini)

My mother used to raise rabbits for shows, and its meat and fur.
The most at one time was around a 150 of them.
We have also had cats since forever. Most at one time, 6.
Had a dog once, for about 10 years. A beagle. Didn't bark though.
Hamsters, but not for long.
My motherĀ“s parents, who are also my neighbors, have sheep.
And use to have cows.
My motherĀ“s sister keep pigs in the same barn as the rabbits.

Well, your parents obviously missed you and decided to replace you with a dog. :( Bad choice! They should have repalced you with a
cat. :eek2: But not this one as he is my bud

No, not pudgy but damn fat like his father Celt. :) He is a love bug and one of the biggest cowards I have ever know. Someone rings the doorbell and he hi-tails it under the bed.

I have two cats, Anastasia and Polgar

Anastasia is a purebred russian blue (thus solid gray fur), she's essentially two years old (her brithday is September 30th), and she was bred by my mother. I adopted her when she was four months old, and she's very affectionate.

Polgar is about a year and a half and was adopted from a cat shelter at the age of 11 weeks. Her fur is mostly gray (although her chest is white, as are her paws), and she's very sweet. She likes to sit on the windowsill.

I have a Himalayan cat and a gecko that lives in my bathroom. My cat likes to wake me up at least 4 times a night by licking my eyeballs. She also runs away from children due to an exciting incident involving my godson and learning to pat kittens. He pulled out half her fur in the attempt to imitate my gentle stroking.

Man thats sucks, I was the same I always wanted a dog for years and years I said I wanted a dog than my younger brother perps up can we get a dog and bang what does he get come his birthday? A bloody dog.

Anyway this dog is a Labrador cross Kelpie and is quite good to play around he is getting old now being with the family for about 8 years and we got him as a new born puppy, now that he has gotten older he is a bit slower and doesn't want to run around as much and gets a bit snappy if you annoy him to much. A bit like when an old man tells the darn kids to get of his lawn.

We have had some fish over the years but they died.

And I remember when I was young about 2 my dad had a blue budgie but it died from old age.

I want to get myself a cockatoo one of those trained ones that can do stuff and talks to me and he can sit on my shoulder without flying away:p

I had my crays for several months. and their quirks?

Bully - Red Clarkii Male: big, mean, but scared of the guppies.
Tina - Red Clarkii Female: active little fisher... woman. she likes sashimi!
Weaver - Blue Clarkii Male: likes to take waterplants and twist them into interesting shapes
Digger - Blue Clarkii Female: likes to dig in the gravel. makes intersting ground sculptures. Will tap the aquarium wall when she's hungry.

I have a border collie. He used to follow my brother around, but since he's moved away to university, I'm the new best friend :P I came home to all the dogs toys in a pile outside my bedroom, and he was sat there waiting for me :D
