Exercise?

Question is simple enough do you do any exercise?

If so, how much?

When?

And what activities do you do?

Me I exercise quite regularly nowadays, every Sunday afternoon, Tuesday and Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon, along with any other times when I am in the mood.

Of course now that soccer has finished for the season that is 5.5 hours of exercise gone for the week and with all the end of season partying that goes with that I am going to lose fitness and put on weight from those activities such as the end of season trip, presentation night both for the women's and the men's teams as well as Christmas drinks they will be holding. I will have to find a summer sport, I will be playing 5 a side soccer but that is only 50 minute games and indoor cricket but they don't last that long either. I used to jog in the mornings but then winter set in and I would rather be in a warm bed than in the cold, but I might start that up again and now that the weather is better I can even begin hitting the golf courses again too.

So tell us NSG, do you do any exercise? Is it a sport or just down at the gym?

EDIT: And the first ad I see a sport related thread

Can't stand the gym myself, I only do sports, and normally team sports at that. Not that I've done much this summer.

I don't exercise in the sense of a regular routine. However, I rely on my bike to get to classes, and I am normally carrying a significant load on my back at the time.

Adunabar, remind me to never get into a fight with you.

Exercise for me is pretty simple, take the dog for a walk. Though our walks go for half hour to 45 minutes. 21 blocks in a half hour, 29 blocks was 45 minutes last night, dog gets tired. Lazy pup!

Exercise isn't really worthwhile for me, I have a physically demanding job so I really don't bother.

Personally I think if people weren't so damn lazy in a day that there really wouldn't be a need for gyms.

6 miles, 55 push ups, 90 sit ups every day. Keeps the ice cream off.;)

I exercise 5-6 times a week unless I'm working, where I'm on my feet for 10 hours and often carrying heavy stuff.

Though 'exercise' is just the skier machine, some bands, and yoga-which if you've never watched a fat guy do yoga...I used to be flexible so I thought that might be the best way to return to that.

I've been going to a Pilates studio lately. Trying to get into kettlebells as well.

I'm at a low ebb. I walk a lot (between an hour and two hours a day) and while I'm trying to get back into the activities I used to do and enjoy, I'm not having much success.

Actually I know what that is like at least 8 hours a day walking around all day slamming 20 pound hammers onto a bar in order shift rocks, to free up a feeder, and when I stopped working there despite my other exercise activities I got out of shape fast.

I've been trying to take walks during breaks from work. Well, I'm supposed to do this, work 40 minutes and go on a 10 minute walk... but yeah... sometimes the walk involves getting coffee or food...

Oh, and I play Ultimate Frisbee once a week.

Yeah, ok, you try writing a thesis or programming while taking a jog.

i dislike the gym, and any sport that involves running, which kinda narrows my choices a little ;)

but i do like swimming, kayaking, cycling, and - if it counts - walking. don't do any of those regularly at the mo, but i'm going to be starting next week (hopefully). i'd like to play rugby, too, but playing rugby against even most ameteur rugby players seems pretty scary to me :P maybe when i'm in better shape..... some day....

my job involves sitting at a computer all day, most days. activity is limited to walking out for lunch and walking to/from the car. bah

I've been alternating days between running, swimming and weight training lately. I hate it, but I haven't been as active this summer as usual and I typically stay inside away from the evil evil cold all winter building up a layer of fat that I then shed the following summer in crazy antics. That didn't happen as much this past summer so it's exercise time. :(

I used to do exercise regularly. But little did I know....

.... that the gym I attended was actually using the money I paid to join to fund a secret underground laboratory that conducted brutal, soulless experiments on root vegetables!

.... that the handles of the stationary bicycles were coated with compounds designed to slowly turn the exerciser into a reptile!

.... that the yoga moves performed throughout the classes were actually sign language versions of The King In Yellow!

.... that whenever I run, I am irreparably denting the invisible magnetic layer that covers the surface of the Earth!

.... that the energy produced by all of the people exercising in all of the gymnasiums in the United States is channeled across the Atlantic and used to power the Large Hadron Collider!

Needless to say, once I had these shocking revelations, I immediately began to avoid all gyms. When I do go, it is only once or twice to find out whether they are in on the conspiracy* and then subsequently, of course, ignore them, to avoid being turned into a reptile.

But I still walk a few miles a day.

*there is no conspiracy

Sort of. I do a lot of yoga, stretching, cycling. Things like that to stay trim. I don't weights or anything because I don't want to bulk up.

I exercise every day, with a specific routine I follow depending upon the day.

A few people have said Yoga, just wondering does that work in staying and getting fit and lean?

I have never bothered to try it because I don't see how people just getting into poses makes you fit/lean. But if people says it does than I may just try it out.

I have to walk around my university.

I still don't understand how you're supposed to get the Frosh 15...

For me it has. I find yoga to be great not only physically but mentally as well.

I walk a ton, both at home and here at college. I also golf during the summers.

I spend 30-45 minutes on my bike every day, and I do a lot of walking and lifting at work. That's not really enough, and I've been thinking about starting jogging. I just wish it wasn't so exhausting, or caused so much physical pain. Oh, the pain...

I hardly ever exercise. :/ I used to go to physical therapy once or twice a week, but I stopped out of laziness and feeling better, and now I have no time to go back. I get a fair amount of unofficial exercise every day teaching 5-year-olds (my class has some runners--as in trying to run out the door), but other than that it's pretty much nil. I take the dog on a 2-3 mile walk once a week. Lame. :(

I really hate most gym/jogging/solo exercise. I like to play softball, basketball and street hockey much more than lifting weights or riding the bike, but I have neither the time nor the opportunity to do that much.
