NS2 news of concern to NSG

Since many of ya'll have been waiting for NS2 for years, you may want to respond to the following:

tl;dr: the beta game's not going to reset, and those who get beta keys before the game goes live will have an unfair advantage on those who don't get a beta key.

Account resets
We've been getting questions about server resets, especially with regards to Ambassadors, which I'd like to address here. We have no plans to do any kind of an account reset or nation deletion as we transition out of Invite-Only. It is entirely possible that we'll have to reset a few statistics within nations (population, gdp, and industry capacities are being looked at right now) but we'd have to run into a pretty extreme problem to require nation wiping. We think this is pretty unlikely (but nothing is ever outside the realm of possibility).

That being said, we *promise* to never do a user account reset, which means that any account-wide settings will persist from now until forever. The most important aspect of this is that your Jennifers balance and Ambassador Status (whether monthly or subscription) will never be affected.

Also, once we open the game up to everyone, (even though the beta tag might stay for a while), your Jennifers will stay, and you'll still be an Ambassador for the full-duration that you paid for.

Hope that clears some of the confusion,

If I'm understanding this correctly, they're promising not to take away from people a commodity/service they've paid for. Are we supposed to find this questionable?

Actually, if you read closely, you'll see that they say

So, no unfair advantage there.

Sounds like Daistallia didn't get an invite key and is desperate to take over the world. Don't worry, I didn't get invited either. We could start an alliance/federation for people who weren't invited and then take over the world with our superior numbers.

Just to note, this came up in response to this:

I'm strongly opposed to this, for the record. Since war hasn't been implemented yet, this means that new nations who were unlucky enough to not get beta keys right away will be susceptible to aggression in their developmental phases. We, obviously, were not. Add to this that they're susceptible to aggression from players who had at least a 1 month head start on them, and it gets a little imbalanced.

If we don't reset I can almost guarantee widespread grumpiness from players who have been waiting for NS2 for years now, only to find themselves starting from scratch in a game where the rest of us have already been around for a few weeks/months. They will wonder why they should give up their Methuselah NS1 account for a marginalized NS2 account.

Also, since markets and demand are still (as far as I know) being fiddled with, this also means that our formative period as nations may differ remarkably from what new nations end up going through once the NS2 beta is done (or close to done). I don't know how the game code works or how similar it was to NS1, but it could mean we end up being overdeveloped in some areas and underdeveloped in others, whereas new accounts won't have that (dis?)advantage.

I really, really, really think we need to do a reset. If we don't reset, that basically means that NS2 is already live, and I don't really think it's fair for us to dictate players' starting dates by sending keys out at random. It's one thing if it's just a test run and we want to gradually stress test the servers, but it's entirely different if people are actually starting their NS2 careers on a random basis, if that makes any sense. Older NS1 players will not be happy with this if we don't reset, and in my opinion their malcontent will be justified. These are the people who have waited the longest for NS2 and they should be rewarded, not punished.
