The Truth About Lying

So how many of you have lied on NSG? About how often you get laid, how little time you spend on here, how much you make, what your significant other looks like...

You don't need to tell us what the lie was, or when. Just if you have before.

I'm curious; this is the internet, and we make shit up. Are there as many liars as I think there are?

Oh, and by the way, yes, I have.

You've only had 28 post on here before :D I can understand someone who isn't happy with their life gradually getting into lying about it in order to gain some sort of comfort from a better, fictional one but you've really hit the ground running haven't you?

For some reason I'm very uncomfortable lying on the Internet. So I don't really. Make statements that I know will be interpreted in a certain way even though they mean something different? Sure. Outright lie? No.

I don't think I ever have, since I'd just be a hypocrite when I call someone else out for doing it. If for whatever reason I don't feel I can tell the truth about something then I just say nothing.

If you look at any thread, almost instantly anyone demands a link/source, etc. Surely someone must have lied at least once to create such skepticism across the board.

Wait, since I'm the only one who's admitted to lying on here, it must have been me.

So how many of you have lied on NSG?

I have implied falsities before, in order to amuse myself, but I corrected them shortly thereafter.

About how often you get laid,

0/100,000,000.

how little time you spend on here,

I have no clue.

how much you make,

Very little, technically.

what your significant other looks like...

My significant appears thus:

There is no other.

No.

Yes.

I don't think I've ever lied to anyone on here (as in purposefully posted a falsehood I knew was a falsehood for non-satirical purposes). I haven't always given the full truth, nor do I intend to, but an outright lie? Nah. Why should I bother making up stuff about myself? I mean, this is the internet. Who could be reading this that actually warrants me making stuff up about myself.

But I think Eut and several others who were normally on opposite sides were actually on the same side in deriling that person...

Quite often. For instance, I do not actually have trained scrotum-seeking attack weasels. I want some, but that's not the point.

I don't concern myself about whether people lie or not. I don't concern myself about whether people believe me or not. Considering the fact that I've been here for years... I got married while a member of the NSG crowd, had three kids and in general established myself as the sweet gooey center of the forum. Now let's suppose it was all a lie. Let's suppose I'm some fat accountant in North Dakota with a low tolerance for pain that has never even seen mud. Doesn't the fact that I've generated a completely artificial persona make me at least as insane and therefore interesting as the persona I've generated?

I lie, I lie a lot. I lie for fun, for pleasure and for money. Sometimes, when I make my first introductions to people I don't expect to meet again, I lie about my name. Not my job or social class or the amount of money I have or anything that really makes sense, but my name.

Me: "Hello, I'm Dariel Ryder."

Two weeks later,

Sucker: "Hey, Dariel, what's going on?"
Me: "Who's Dariel?"
Sucker: "You, right?"
Me: "Am I?"

I think it's either because I like screwing with people's heads or hate myself so much I have to lie to escape myself.

it was keruvalia

Didn't he claim to have a divine revelation from Muhammad, or was that someone else? What ever came of that?

Anyway. What little information I have absentmindedly posted about myself has been true. Even the most "gifted" liars get caught in inconsistencies - why would I burden myself with having to monitor a constellation of falsehoods for consistency? That wouldn't be good for my peace of mind even if I could manage it. Bleh.

Back when I first started, and I had no idea how important NSG would become to how I spend my time (and indeed, what I think about things), I was looking at getting a Subaru WRX for my car. Back then, I actually posted that I had already gotten one.

I then had to abandon the plan of buying one because I just couldn't afford it. Eventually I faced up to it, though nobody actually cared.

But that was the only lie I've ever told here. As I said, NSG has had quite a big impact on what I know and how I think about many things, and the least I can give back is being honest about who I am. And there isn't really anything bad about me people shouldn't know about, so I'm not very secretive about these things either.

i dont know if he had a revelation but he claimed to have gone islamic for a while. i think it was so there could be at least one person on the other side of the "muslims suck" argument. after a while he gave it up. either because it was a lie or because he couldnt stick with the no booze rule. 1- Lying about how much I get laid, I don't talk about how much I get laid so naturally I can't be lying.
2-Never talk about how much time I spend on here outside of the occasional moan that I'm going on here to much, not lying.
3- I don't really talk about my "significant others" appearance, so for the record she's very hot and beautiful, and I'm not lying :p

And I don't go on NSG that much anymore and I might of lied before, but if I did I don't remember it.

people in general are filthy liars.

people ON general may or may not willfully misrepresent the major facts of their existence.

i, who have been online for a very long time, know that i dont need to misrepresent myself. as long as i am vague about the truth, people will fill in all the details they need from their own psyches.

Not really. There was some thread I wanted to make with regards to my real car at the time (might have been the one when some old lady crashed into it), and for that I had to point out that it wasn't actually a WRX.

As I said, no one actually cared. Whether or not I had it mattered more to me than to anyone else, and realising that I stopped thinking about it.

Mind you, that was years ago.
