Strange Dreams

I have been plauged by wierd dreams and nightmares all of my life and last night was no exception.

As my wife woke me up for work this morning the remant of last nights doozy was still with me, in fact it was still with me so strongly that for about a 30 secs I just didn't know who I was, or where I was, or why I was in this bed, and why did this bedroom not look like my castle?

So the questions are:

Why me? By which I mean, why have I always sufferd these sorts of dreams and more importantly nightmares?

Just what the heck are dreams anyhoo?

How many of you lot can remember your dreams(as I tend to do)?

Aye, have had quite a few nightmares lately. The worst one was about me being a councillor for people, and especially my friends, who were about to be taken off for evil (and deadly) medical research (I forget what the criteria were, other than 'being someone I know, obviously). Basically the research company gave them 24 hours to get their things in order. Horrible dream, ended with me killing myself off a cliff when I realised how pointless the whole councilling thing was, and that it was only a matter of time until I, too, was picked. Eugh.

I usually remember the last 10-15 minutes of the dream very well, and the general mostly for the critical points.

Actually, I find it sad there's no device to videotape the dreams... With some editing, I reckon, my dreams probably wouldn't be on the selling level, but good enough to post as amateur video. There have been plots I found very interesting, especially in post-wakeup examination. I sometimes spend a few minutes lying down in order to remember and better record what I've seen.

Wish I had at least half the creative talent of that part of my brain that creates dreams when awake.

As for what dreams are, I hold a materialistic view: They're intensive processing and restructuring of the information one received in the daytime. It explains why the dreams (at least for me) are usually somehow related to the events of the day. Although there were times when something I've seen in a dream happened later, but I think it's more of intuitive prediction rather than something "supernatural". Guess they could also work out as a replacement for TV entertainment, if only we didn't forget them.

You need to exorcise the demons in your head. Sleep in holy water. This may keep them at bay for the night.

Seriously though you need to cut out the activity during the day that is causing this. Look at what you are doing during the day that could lead to this. Maybe reading or watching movies that would make your brain active like this. I suggest watching endless shows on home repair. That way if you decide to sleepwalk you actually might get something done.

Heh yeah I know what you mean. However while of course some of my dreams reflect what has happen during the day, or what I have read, or seen on TV, or what I am worried about etc.. the majority of the bad ones or the great ones do not.

As I say this has ever been the case for me, and so of course I realise that dream A is worry over the next bill or that dream B is all about that PC game I was playing for 5 hours last night, and the dream C is my subconcious playing on my concious fears or whatever.

Never ever ever ever stay up playing Half life or some other suitably bizarre game because you consumed to much caffeine. I think that either of them alone equals weird dreams, but when combining the two...

If you think these dreams are affecting your ability to sleep properly and are occuring too often for your liking, there actually are things a doctor could help you with.

I generally don't remember my dreams. When I have nightmares, I rarely even remember what it was I was scared of, I just wake up being scared. Then I go back to sleep and that's the end, so I'm quite lucky in that respect. I remember my brother having night terrors when he was little, basically sleepwalking but screaming and not being able to recognise any of us. That was a tad freaky...

I usually remember my dreams. The problem is I don't usually remember that they were dreams. It normally takes being confronted with reality to realise otherwise. I've even had arguments with people because of these dream-memories.

Believe me, you have it easy. Thirty seconds is nothing, try several days.

Well I do have problems sleeping, not because of the dreams though, I have gotten used to them really, shit even the nightmares no longer scare me, hah mostly.

Dreams are simply the result of your brain testing itself to make sure all the neurons are firing properly while other parts shut down to rest. Unfortunately, the parts of your brain being tested or shutting down don't tell the parts that are still awake and trying to function normally, so you get a bunch of stories about Hitler eating mashed potatoes cropping up out of nowhere.

The most disturbing thing is when I wake up laughing, but can't remember why or even if there was a reason. It isn't a normal laugh either, but a drunken cackling that feels something like a cough.

well, i remember a lot of my dreams. its always hazy, but most mornings i can remember at least some of the night's crazyness. they're usually pretty weird.

there was a classic a while back where i had to take William Shatner from a Star Trek comedy convention (where he was doing stand-up) to find the orange juice in Cleveland, but we had to go by train. that one went on for hours, and i've dreamed bits of it several times now.

had a great one a few nights back - my g/f was cracking up when i was telling her the intricate details in the morning, but sadly i can't remember anything about it now :(

when i was a kid, i used to have loads of recurring nightmares that would last for weeks or, sometimes, months on end.

short answer: fuck knows what they're there for, but i do have some weird ones, yeah :P

For about three and a half years, now go to your room! Or, if you're already in your room, then stay there.

I don't remember my dreams usually, so yay! Sex dreams I remember though, I always find them interesting as they don't always follow my sexual preferences.

My completely unscientific thoughts on dreams are that they are just your brain doing a bit of housekeeping. Sorting through the piles of disparate papers on the desk and organizing them a bit, going through the boxes of random and sundry items in the basement and deciding what to keep, toss or donate, finding an old yearbook or newspaper clippings, looking at old stuff and wondering "what was this thing for anyway?"

I only remember my dreams when my brain seems to have extra cycles to spin. When I'm stressed or in the middle of a lot of intense mental activity, I don't seem to remember them, but when things are a bit more sedate, I will have very vivid and creative dreams that I remember.

I don't know why but you are not the only one it happens to me too, but some of my dreams predict the future, not much I just know a few days later where that I experienced this in a dream a few days ago, it isn't giving me the lottery numbers unfortunately.

I wish I knew, some of mine has been so strnage that I am go over them the next morning and I can't make head or tail of it, not when I am off tro play golf at 4 in the morning I decide to go back to bed i go into my house which has haouse boats either side of it and they is a strange women and child sitting in my house.

Yes I remember a lot of my dreams, sometimes the dream can be exciting to be apart of but I don't know why I remember them.

Not accurately. I remember being really sexy and great and clever, and there were loads of naked women writing all over me. I believe some moaning was involved as well.
I guess you were there too, somehow.

Well yes, really sexy and great and clever yes, of course I mean that explains a few things about myself, genetics and all that. Naked women? Not since all that rigmorol in Russia surely?

Actually, a couple of my dreams have had to do with NSG lately.

Specifically, arguing about various politics.

I suck.

Happened to me several times. You see something and instantly say "I had a dream about this" and then get that twinge of Déjà vu.

Maybe dreams are windows to other dimensions.

I had a dream last week that all of my film was overexposed. :(

Turns out, it was mostly underexposed. :(

Stupid unfamiliar film.
