Vacation

We all need time off and a chance to get away from where we are every day. Where are your favorite places to go? What is your dream vacation? Why?
My favorite vacation spots are Walt Disney World (yes, I'm a loser. I know) and Cape Cod.
Disney provides pure escapism, as well as a good reason to act like a 6 year old (as opposed to acting like a 6 year old as I usually do)
The cape is just beautiful.

It is the epitome of New England...the cedar shingled, small houses, tons of fresh seafood...what isn't to love?
Dream vacation is something of a world tour, backpacking. I want to go this route:
Japan - China - Vietnam - Cambodia - Thailand - India - Israel - Turkey - Greece - Italy - Austria - Czech Republic - Poland - Germany - France - Spain
Needless to say, that trip will take a very long time and lots of money...nice thing is, it can be broken down into smaller trips. It also leaves out Africa...that's for a seperate trip.
So what about you, NSG?

Somewhere I've never been before. It's cliched but true, I love seeing/doing/etc things for the first time.

I've Buenos Aires on the mind lately, it's a hotbed of creativity right now, not overly expensive either, aside from simply getting there.
If I can guarantee a job switch, I'm taking a couple months off to go find something to do out there.
The traditional idea of getting, say, 1 week off work for a 'vacation' sucks as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather work 2 years straight and take a proper 2-3 month holiday exploring a country.

I love doing the same, but I also love finding new things about the places I thought I knew. I just found a new favorite seafood place on the cape, and went to Disney for the first time as an "adult". Quite a different experience.

Best part of (well, hopefully) being a teacher. Summers off :)
I'm probably jetting to Morocco pretty soon.
Living so close to Cape Cod, it just gets stale to me. Probably the same as someone who lives in Orlando and how they feel about Disney World.
I want to go to Rome someday though...
I feel most relaxed in Cuba, when vacationing.
I only want to be in Montreal though.

Shut up. You're not Ruffy enough lately.

The last time I was in Cape Cod, I went here (http://capecodpaintball.com/).
I'm going on a vacation to South Dakota in 2010, and I'm excited (the only problem is I hate to fly, and the thought of driving out there and back from CT scares the hell out of me). The last time I was in South Dakota was July 1989, and I had a blast (except the flights to/from). We shot off fireworks, I went to Mt. Rushmore, saw the geographical center of the nation (there was a plaque, flagpole, and 2 porta-potties out in the middle of nowhere), went through the Needles and Custer State Park, visited Deadwood, took a tour of the Homestake Mining Corp, and a bunch of other things.

Eh a weekend in a log cabin up in the mountains, with my true love would be fine by me.

While that sounds nice I am on a 1 week "vacation" now (not going anywhere but dont have to work) I am already feeling so behind the curve ball I can not imagine being gone from a proper career for 2 or 3 months

we just had a great holiday for 4 nights at Center Parcs in the SW of England. the weather was a bit shite, but it was beautiful anyway. we were in the middle of a forest, the only good way to get about was by bicycle or walking (there was a land train but only families with young'uns used that)... big indoor heated pool, your own house for a week (not quite a log cabin, but it was nice inside), lots of activity, good (fucking expensive) food... it was great! i came back feeling energised! three days back at my job and i'm exhausted and morose again :p
my ideal holiday would be just that, but somewhere sunnier and with a beach. not that i like going to the beach much, mind... i just want it to be there ;)
but it would have to be cool in the morning and evening so you could go to the pool in the middle of the day when its hottest, but cycle and walk around when its cooler. that would be tits.
alternatively, somewhere like this would be my ideal vacation...

*cries* Over-loud ringtones and talking really does irk me.
Not sure I'd want to go in this search with anyone else, mind. Maybe only if they understood it as well. Sometimes the best time with a friend is in complete silence.

If you need some tips on where to go let me know. I don't answer telegrams so you will have to make a post asking for suggestions. I literally been everywhere in Morocco multiple times.

I don't really do vacations in the sense of getting away from things. There are a few stories about Stanley Kubrick not being able to understand what a holiday was and I can really identify with that. If I'm not doing something, I get restless. I can relax, but only for a few hours at a time.
Where are you?
I'm up in Boston, so maybe just far enough away for it to not get boring...
In Western Mass. We visit once a year, family there and all.
I just don't like how it's commercializing. (At least more than before.) :p
I want to go everywhere.
Yeah, I'd like to go there too...

I think there are places that I don't want to visit unless I've got a suitcase full of explosives and guns. First stop would be Darfur, asking for directions to the local Janjaweed hang-out.

But South America doesn't even warrant that huh?
Where would I like to go - at the moment anywhere where I don't have to deal with incompetent IT consultants for at least a week. Pontefract would do.

I've hit a little bit of South America...Europe would be left out if it wern't for the fact that it happens to be attached to Asia. I can't wait to see Argentina and Brazil in particular...I'd love to go back to Costa Rica and see more of it, and Chile would be great.
