Warmachine (the game)

Anyone played this? A lot of the guys in my gaming group are getting into it (some of them have been for a while) and are really pushing me to give it a try.

How is it as a game? How expensive is it (in relation other tabletop wargames, specifically Games Workshop's games)?

Anyone want to tell me about it? Im probably going to run a few practice games to try it out with my buddies I usually game with, but want to know everyone else's opinions.

ps- If you play, what faction do you play and what do you think of them?

I’m slowly collecting a merc army. So far I’ve only played a few games – the initial impression is a rather quick and fun skirmish game.

The individual models are getting somewhat expensive, but the army-cost (at least for a small starter army) seems to be somewhat less that Games Workshop games...

I've got a fair Cryx force. I find it plays faster and more decisively than any of the Warhammer variants, and doesn't require anywhere near as many models. The cost of models is comparable to GW, but a complete army costs much less, and the models are generally quite superior in quality.

Frankly, I'm enjoying it more than I generally enjoy Warhammer.

I don't know about that. Warmachine models are definitely not bad, but GW does have some rather good models, depending on one's tastes. Personally, I really like the OTT bling and gothic stylings so I really enjoy 40k models.

Warmachine is a great game. I have a fairly sized Menoth force and a Seaforge Contract. My group rotates between 40k and WM as our primary game and it definitely keeps either one from really getting stale.

Well, I will give you the WH and WH40K models do lend themselves to greater customization. I just find the WM (and Hordes) models to be more finely detailed ad with fewer flaws.

Im quite interested in Cygnar. Anyone got nything to say about em as an army?

Cygnar has the best "technology" in the game (as befits the guys who developed the 'jacks in the first place). They also have some really good ranged combat troops. All up, probably the most "balanced" army in the game - not as fast as Cryx, not as solid as Khador, but comes second in all categories. Probably have the best warcasters, but that's subjective, depending on what you want.
