Jesus, it's not like they killed anybody over it. Truth is, it took a long time for evolutionary theory to build its overwhelming case and to fault anyone for doubting it back in the 19th and early 20th centuries is a somewhat unfair appraisal of the situation. Changing beliefs isn't easy, and I can understand the reticence of religious institutions to adopt new ideas when they posed a potential (and ultimately unfounded) threat to their existing belief structure.

Apologizing like this seems like some kind of strange ploy to appeal to people for one reason or another. I don't fault anyone of that time for their rejection of evolutionary theory...there's a world of difference between them and today's creationist charlatans that play on lies, intellectual dishonesty, and ignorance about evolution to keep their views alive.

Agreed. It's not as if Church doctrine was until this announcement that evolution was wrong; they just never got around to apologizing. The Virginia legislature only recently apologized for slavery, but we've been slave-free for quite a while now.
And as Geniasis said, this is far from the longest wait for an apology.

That's different, Galileo ended up before the Inquisition and in some potentially quite serious shit. All the church did to Darwin was laugh in his face, which is quite understandable considering that he was calling for a revision of a worldview that had been accepted and in place for over a millennium.

Well it's fairly clear to everyone that the CoE doesn't really dispute science, so I think this has more to do with them wanting to shake associations people make between them and certain "Christian brothers" from over the pond, than any particularly dramatic shift in their world view.

Yet another failing of the CoE. They were right to reject his theories, as are all who continue to oppose them.

Haven't you watched John Oliver's Terrifying Times? We used up all the witches, back when England was powered solely by them, because they weren't a renewable resource.

The burden of proof is on you to prove they don't exist, otherwise I'll continue to believe what I feel like and I feel like burning some witches, specifically Ardchoille, her avatar is an affront to all that is holy.

Yeah but a catholic-fired power station is going to run out of fuel pretty quick. All the non-condom use still isn't going to produce enough catholics to burn.

I think urine may actually be an improvement over Bud. I don't really know, not having tried urine, but it smells better.

Even Christ couldn't make Bud better, maybe bud, but not Bud.

There's another reason to apologize.... to kind of step aside, and point fingers at fundamentalists, and say "WE don't have a problem with understanding that science is valid.... THEY'RE the ones who refuse to believe it if it's not in the Bible."
