I'm not able to remember and don't have a copy, but my daughter does and she's on the phone sobbing, can someone please help?
Oh, sorry, we need to know where the setting is to make the spell checker automatically fix spelling errors.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Under the TOOLS menu should be a selection called "auto correct..."

she claims there isn't.

Tools/AutoCorrect -> check boxes for both "Replace text as you type" and "Automatically use suggestions from the spelling checker."
Also need to have Tools/Options/Spelling and Grammar set to "Check spelling as you type."

I wouldn't advise auto correct, it often causes words to be replaced with ones you don't want.

i found a copy of 2003 on the husband's computer
when i clicked on the "tools" menu item there were only 2 options displayed, when i right clicked on the menu list it extended thus showing the auto correct options item near the bottom of the list. when i clicked on THAT, a new window came up with lots of auto correct options to choose from.
Tools> opinions > Spelling and Grammar
check off the correct check marks, it should work.
However, it's possible Word 2003 had lost it's dictionary, you may need to reinstall it.

Oh yeah, wasn't this version office notorious for hiding stuff you haven't used for a while, forcing you to click a "v" object to see everything?

I bet that's what's going on! Thanks. She's at my neighbors and I'm at the hospital with the little one, so I wasn't going to be much help. Thank God for wi-fi and my palm though! haha.

Ugh, Microsoft Word makes me physically throw up sometimes at the sheer retardedness of it. Unfortunately open office does even more retarded things, why can't there be one good word processor!

yeah that was it. i suppose its handy when you have made your choices and never need to change them but to find for someone else its a bitch.

Oh... God... joke... too... easy... must avoid... guh -- I can't.
That's the motto of the Sockfucker society. Or if it isn't, it should be.
I'm honestly so sorry for that.

I am sorry but that's funny.
I opened the thread expecting some really complicated issue that needs a tricky workaround involving macros and stuff.....lol.

:p nope I was just being panicky and unhelpful. I was in the hospital with my youngest thinking she was really sick, and apparently she's only mildly sick and my oldest was freaking out and I was like  and couldn't concentrate to figure it out and google wouldn't work on my PDA. :(

Why not just tell her to suck it up and press F7 every now and then?

Smunkee, you seem to have got the answers you need, so I'm closing the thread before it degenerates. Feel free to start another if you need more help. Hope all goes well.
