It's alright. Only been playing it for...oooh, 8 hours now. Looks like it'll get a lot better when it's properly launched and there are more nations. And when war's introduced.
Issues seem to be the same but different (i.e. same issues, slightly different wording, context etc). Oh, and you get to name your national newspaper. It's amazing what gets discussed in I V Stalin's Angling Monthly.
So NSGers who have recieved your beta keys for NS2, what are your impressions so far?
I don't have my beta key even though I reserved my nation's name some time ago. No e-mails anywhere. Piece of crap.
Different. Still slow, though.
We're supposed to get keys?

I got my beta key yesterday and I think NS2 is alright so far. It will be amazing when the Beta is done though. I have to say i like the idea of the alliances and war. I thought NS2 would be too restricted but what they've done is they have made it more like an online game rather than the single player NS1 where the only online part is the forums. Yes the NS2 forums are a little slow paced but again that will change when more people get keys.
I don't know what to think yet...it definitely has lots of potential, and it looks like the introduction of war could be awsome. Likewise, I think the huge number of new economic/alliance options are great.
That being said, over the course of one night, my population grew alot and my economy didn't, so my stats dropped...alot.
Not sure what to think yet.

Unlike NS1 economies can be derailed and there's nothing you can do about it sometimes. For instance sometimes your economy can be affected by drastic weather conditions.

They've only issued 4,000-5,000 keys, so if you assume 50% of nation names were reserved, you've got about a 1 in 10 or so chance of getting a key.
Apparently us who are playing the beta will soon be able to invite others before the game goes properly live.

See above.

Was there an e-mail at least confirming your reservation?
Because I didn't get one about that either.
Bleh...
sums it up
If you thought the old NS was bleh, then this will be bleh^2. Basically, they took the bad bits of NS (crappy servers, boring repetitive issues, annoying nutsack n00bs with no brains) and added more bad bits (402 errors, being stuck on the same continent as annoying nutsack n00bs with no brains).
Essentially, they turned it into yet another plain old browser based webgame. Infact the only thing that is really different to other browser games, is that it has 'issues' which after the first week nobody does anything with anyway.

I haven't had much time to poke around in it. I just got my beta key not too long ago. I haven't figured out how trade works and all that fun stuff.

It is alright, there are different aspects to the game, and does take a little getting used to, while I enjoy it don't expect it to be like the original, there are differences, and I like the original better, when comparing the two. If not comparing the two then NS2 is a good game to play, it does limit RPing a bit if you enjoying RPing. I am still learning about trade and experimenting in ways to put my GDP up.

There's a webgame attached to these forums?
Well, after one or two weeks trying it, I haven't figured how economy works, if it depends on continental or worldwide factors. It will take me a few weeks more, I guess. I haven't discovered what the differences are between "favored" trade partners, and the others, for example.
