You! You're an Irish-Danish Aussie! And called David! Yes, you!
... at least that's what this World Names Profiler says. Assuming you're US-American, and have the most common US surname. And assuming you're into broad overgeneralizations of epic proportions.
So, seriously, I discovered this amazing website (http://www.publicprofiler.org/worldnames/Default.aspx)* and just had to share. You plug in your last name, and it gives you a nice graphic map of relative geographic distribution of your last name in the world. Plus, for those who like details and numbers, it also gives you a ranked list of the top countries, regions, and cities[b] (with regard to relative occurrence of your last name in the population), and, as a gimmick, a [b]list of top first names to go with your last name. (And, if you hadn't known yet, the broad geo-linguistic group your name falls into).
One would think this yields rather obvious results, but the search for the abovementioned "Smith", the uncontested #1 US-American surname, shows that the US is only 4th in top countries, does not appear in the regions list at all, and has to take third place in the cties list after Danish and French towns... and, as an added bonus: the top city is "Aars" :]

My name is South-Western-ish German. Such a surprise! (actually, it sorta is).
Cool site, though.
Edit: Oh, that is interesting, with the more common spelling it's an overwhelmingly Austrian name. Didn't know that, always thought it'd be more Dutch or something.
My name is South-Western-ish German. Such a surprise! (actually, it sorta is).
I knew that my name was also common in Sweden, but that Sweden would make up 100% of my top regions list was somewhat surprising. Also, one of the top cities is pretty close to my home city when I was an exchange student, which is cool.
P.S. You've not voted in the poll?! I made a poll, just for click-happy people like you, and you ignore me?! At least send me chocolate then, even without poll-clicking.
Not that surprised that my name is pretty much limited to Holland, but it is funny to see that it's most prolific in the western provinces.
~edit: In the US my last name is most common in the state of Oregon for some reason...

Same goes for "Tit", with the incredibly nice first-last-name combination "One Tit". However, if you prefer a double set, "Tits" is a rather common last name in Blgium with 41.27 FPM .
Oh, and Cool also is indisputably most prevalent in Belgium. How's that for a new home, then?

My name is most common in Australia. However, if Kentucky were ever to secede from the US and form a breakaway, landlocked republic, they would boast the greatest density of people with my last name in the world. By several magnitudes.
After verifying this, I proceeded to spend about 20 minutes trying variants of "Fuck wit," but to no avail. Sadly, there are no "Fahkwit's," "Fawkhewitt's," "Falkwitz's," or even "Fu'Kuit's." This is truly a sad day for mankind.

Try "moron". However, no Kentucky connection I can detect; they seem to mostly concentrate in Spain, Argentina, Poland, and France (though the highest local moron density is in Barnsley, UK). "Ape"s are suspiciously common in Argentina, too.
P.S.: They've no "McLovin" in their database, but "Lovin" on its own is there, and guess which city is on the top list? Yes, that's right.. Kissimmee! (FL, USA)

My surname is not very uncommon, and is German adopted in the Alsace region during the period when everyone in Europe was Germanizing their names (hundreds of years ago). The top countries/regions for my name are all over Germany, Austria, France and surrounding regions. No surprise there. Even good old Alsace-Lorraine got onto the list. (The motherland. *sniff*) I'm not exactly sure why Ireland is on the list, but then the US regions listed for my name include places where I know I have distant relatives living, so who knows? I may have relatives in Ireland, too. Hell, it even lists the place I live now. Maybe all it takes is one or two of us in a place to register on this thing.
EDIT: I checked my mom's family's name, too, which is so freaking Italian it's not even funny, and guess what? No surprises there, either. The Profiler read like the character list of the "Sopranos." The vast majority of places listed are Italy and in Italy. There are a lot of us in Argentina for some reason, too -- those must the ones who were fascists. :p And yep, it lists the region where my mom and I and a whole clan of distant cousins live, too.

Not too surprising, for a word that is most definitely a word of the English language.
What surprised me was Luxembourg.

My last name exists in the UK, the US, and NZ, and that's it. This isn't much of a surprise.
I'm surprised that 2.26 UKians per million have my last name (who'd have thought it'd be that high?) and a couple of the names in the top first names *giggles at "Fanny"* but otherwise it told me basically what I already knew.

Well, it sort of found me and some other members of my family.
It would appear that my surname is unique worldwide.
similar story for me, though there have apparently been a couple separate shortenings from the ridiculous and unspellable original (and fairly common) polish name that has resulted in a couple independent pockets of people with mine.
but who the fuck lives downstate?
Gee.... my Surname is very popular in Asia as well as the western US.
I will admit my surprise at the level in Australia, Europe and South America...
but whodathunk that Asian Firstnames would make up the majority of appropriate fore names...

... at least that's what this World Names Profiler says.

Mine is most common in India, which is a duh, because I am a second-generation Indian. It's also around in Canada, America (New England, New York, New Jersey, Iowa, Washington, and bits of the South [last three were interesting]), and the UK too (no surprise) but Belgium (nothern) and Denmark surprised me. Actually, the fact that it appears mostly in Alberta (Canada) surprised me, considering how many things I've heard from Canadians.

Not necessarily. You're just not as cautious as I am, and as I presume is good for one. I'm sorry if I offended you in my bid to make a helpful suggestion for you.
Heh, not offended, I found it funny. :) Thanks for the concern though.
Edit: Wow, this smily is horrible.

Having done research into my paternal family history I was not particular surprised of the places where they were, mainly Bavaria. I was surprised however of the regions that my family name was in America, North Dakota was the American region with the highest FPM. I suppose a bunch moved over at one point in time and settled there.
Quite a few in Argentina too which did surprise me though that was 6th on the list behind Germany, Austria, USA, Ireland and Spain respectively.
I would not be surprised that Australia is last on the list considering that there are only 5 of us in the entire country.
I also placed in my mother's maiden name and with this the results did surprise me I was always under the impression that it was Irish though the FPM was fairly low, though to tell you the truth my parents visited the town in Ireland and there was quite a few people and even some business' with that surname in that region. Australia and the UK are the highest countries respectively, which does lead credence to it being a name from the British Isles as many Irish and poms have come to Australia.
I must question the accuracy of this I placed in my mothers maiden name and in the list of regions it had Western Australia 53.04FPM then ACT 47.35FPM and then Western Australia again with 46.19 FPM

Interesting... Despite the fact that top country for my surname was Aus (makes sense as I'm from there), the top two states for my name were American and all of the top cities were in the UK. The names were even weirder... sure, most of them were sensible enough, but how many people call their son Horace these days? And what kind of name is "Danl"?

My last name appears to be decidedly Midwestern (though it's one of the most common in the English-speaking world overall), but the top city is in Germany.

Yeah, same here. I'm supposed to have a piss-common (last) name, and I've yet to meet an actual person who shares it. Weird, that.
Indeed strange.

I think you are talking about the map, it shows a map of the world and the countries are coloured with a table to show the density of the name in that country.

My name is Jewish... Since this map doesn't show Israel or Russia, the highest concentration of people with my last name is actually in Austria followed by Canada.
