After reading the thread on Putin rescuing a camera crew that got me thinking. If Putin can do that then he could probably beat Bush in a fist fight. Hey, Bush hasn't shown any sign that he can take out big cats or that he is involved with activities that are making him physically fit. So the question is, who would win in a fist fight in your opinion? Bush or Putin?

Wasn't Putin a competition level judoka?

Isn't Putin a former KGB guy with black belt level martial arts skills?

Unless they're hunting with Dick Cheney, Putin wins.

I'd vote for Putin, unless they go quail hunting with Dick Cheney.

i voted a tie between Putin, Cheney, and Shwarzenegger.

Arnold is the most badass, Putin's the best fighter in real life, but Cheney's the most likely to bring a gun with him(well, maybe Putin would).

You know what, on second thought, Cheney would win. Because Bush put Putin and Arnold in Gitmo as enemy combatant. But then Putin would break out of Gitmo and poison Bush, KGB style. Arnold would just stay in Gitmo and work on his Abs. Dick would then shoot Putin in the face while he was aiming for Bush's dog.

So in reality, Cheney wins!

Except Putin is likely to have a gun ready in his other hand, aimed at Dick. And let's not forget, Dick uses a scattergun, poor penetration at range, and not a lot of killing power on large targets. Putin will probably pack a Makarov PM.

It would be a "No Contest" cause...

Whoever lost would claim the other cheated in some way then theyd use that as an excuse to send troops in to invade...

Thats why wars cant be nonviolent....

I think Putin will already know how dangerous Dick Cheney and his lapdog are and will have plans in place to deal with them. Like that Tommy Thompson said in The Hunt for Red October, "The average russky doesn't take a dump without a plan."

The real threat to Putin is Condi Rice. I suspect she is packing heat somehere in those odd outfits she wears.

i would most likely give it to Putin on the martial arts.

but Bush isnt a total girly man. in fact he can lift 270 pounds and As of August 2001 [4]: Bush runs an average of three miles, four times a week, and "also routinely cross-trains with swimming, free weights and an elliptical trainer." He reportedly runs a mile in 7 to 8 minutes. His physicians classified him in the top 2% of men his age for cardiovascular fitness. He went 26 minutes on a treadmill test (protocol unnamed), attaining a heart rate of 178 beats per minute [31]. Bush's resting heart rate was 43 beats/minute, and his blood pressure 118/74 mmHg. His total cholesterol level was 170 mg/dl [4].
he is likely the most fit US president since Teddy Roosevelt(and even that's debatable because teddy was a lard ass).

I mean what do you think he does all day while he is letting Cheney run the government. exercise.

I'm pretty sure that Putin would beat anyone in political office in the US at the moment. Putin vs. Bush Senior, on the other hand, would be a more interesting fight. A bit of KGB on CIA action right thar.

Putin is highly regarded within the Judo community, and spends his time doing things even less productive than G-dub cutting logs.

If we threw the world's leaders into a big ring and had them fight it out, Bush would probably last a while. But Putin might win outright.

New objective: find a head of state or government who could beat Vladimir Putin in unarmed combat.

Now, I have a feeling that Arnold could beat Putin. Arnold has so much physical strength that even Putin's judo might not be enough. It would probably be a fairly entertaining fight.

I thought of Schwarzenegger too. He's got some serious muscle.
But in the end, Arnold is an actor and a bodybuilder, not a fighter. After reading a bit on Putin, however...

Putin began training in sambo (a martial art that originated in the Soviet Union) at the age of 14, before switching to judo, which he continues to practice today.[274] Putin won competitions in his hometown of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), including the senior championship of Leningrad. He is the President of the Yawara Dojo, the same Saint Petersburg dojo he practiced at when young. Putin co-authored a book on his favorite sport, published in Russian as Judo with Vladimir Putin and in English under the title Judo: History, Theory, Practice.[275]

Though he is not the first world leader to practice judo, Putin is the first leader to move forward into the advanced levels. Currently, Putin is a red/white belt (6th dan) and is best known for his Harai Goshi (sweeping hip throw). Vladimir Putin earned Master of Sports (Soviet and Russian sport title) in Judo in 1975 and in Sambo in 1973. After a state visit to Japan, Putin was invited to the Kodokan Institute where he showed the students and Japanese officials different judo techniques.[276]

So Putin has been practicing martial arts for 40 years, and has a high ranking there. Even the lowest Dan is very serious, and 6th is just a few stages below the top. Dan ranks are those beyond the black belt, generally reserved to instructors and high-level competition fighters. Putin has won professional championships, earning a title denoting being among the top-level fighters in the country. In two martial arts, so he can combine multiple styles.
That, and his KGB past, which has certainly given him some knowledge about some of the more sinister techniques, such as striking at vital points, distracting attention, and the terminal actions. And if it's not martial arts only, he'd be hiding some firepower. He's also younger, in better physical shape, and he's certainly very smart and cunning. I don't see Putin losing in such a company, he'd find a way to win, fairly or not.

So in boxing or wrestling (not WWC) Arnold would perhaps have a better chance... In any more real-life situation, a combination of serious martial arts and KGB training gives a great edge over simple strength without skillful application.

Dick Cheney would kill Bush "by mistake" with a shotgun, and then would call off the fight to rule as the next US president. Putin would let him go, as long Cheney promises not to interfere in the next Georgia beating.

Well that's obviously staged PR. The blackbelt stuff, however, is not. Nor is his KGB background.

Putin is probably the most dangerous national leader in unarmed combat in a while.
