The ad in the upper right corner seems to have some relationship to the topic of the thread?

For instance in the thread about Jews, there's an ad about a Jewish dating service. In the thread about Wilgrove's suit, there's an ad for men's suits. Is this consistent throughout?

I've noticed this, too. In a couple different threads mentioning Christians,some ad that looks like a Bible appears.

I have noticed that. I think what we should do is create threads like the one LG suggested, and then all make a point to click on the ads that appear on those pages. Google will suddenly find itself swamped with revenue from DirtyClowns.com.

That gave me a chuckle.

So, they have these things called cookies, content matching and IP address detectors.

I'd say Jolt has joined an affiliate network, which serves up ads for a number of clients and directs them to you specifically or based on the thread content.

I get a fair amount of HK advertising, others will get advertising based on where they are, the content of the thread and information based on tracking your upstream and downstream traffic.

Personally I don't mind it, it makes advertising a little more relevant to interests.

I initially had Napster ads; I wasn't logged in, and it was before I cleared all my cookies just to see what happened.

I cleared my cookies, and I got ads for some game with a sword-wielding chick (Shiya?). I don't game.

After logging in, I've gotten Best Western ads, which actually makes sense, although I prefer the Hilton.

The front page currently has ads for a site with hotel reviews by guest, one about investing in the hotel market and a peer to peer IT support group. On this page I currently see public service ads about microfinancing for the poor and Sichuan earthquake relief.

It's Google AdSense (https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/). Their context/subject-matter-detection can (sometimes, if things are working right) match ads to content.

I have AdSense on several of my sites. I've seen it be both dead-on accurate, and way off. What happens here is typical of its performance on forums.

I have noticed.

Hope for eating disorders. Do you want to quit your job? Videos & pictures. And on the front page of NSG there was an ad for a rugby forum. Come to think of it, that seems appropriate. We really like to tackle and jump on subjects here, after all.

Some people just create things which feed that notion. Evidence? A drawing of a busty Tau woman, with long hair in a partially dismantled Crisis Suit (I guess the new Tau tactic against melee races is to bedazzle them with scantily clad gunners :p).
