Who must I seek vengeance against?

Okay, I began gathering the parts I'd need for a new computer. With the advice of a good friend knowledgeable in such things I assembled the parts which include:

A Lian Li case
An Asus M2N-SLI motherboard
An AMD Phenom 9600 Black Edition Processor
((Note, careful research was done on the Asus and Newegg websites to make sure that this motherboard was compatible with this processor and I was assured it was))
A PC Power and Cooling 610 watt powersupply
An EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX videocard
2 gigs of Corsair Dominator DDR2 memory
Optical drive
500 gb SATA hard drive.

All these parts were purchased at Newegg which I've had good dealings with.

I also have a wireless N card to be installed later.

Anyhoo.... upon assembling the parts under his watchful eye, we switched it on and...

...the cpu fan spun for about a second then stopped. The system never booted.

Well after an hour of consternation, cursing and threats of bodily harm, and trying everything he knew neither my friend nor I could get it working. So we checked Asus for troubleshooting techniques and that's where we found a forum entry where some other skilled computer geek build TWO systems using the 9600 Phenom and the M2N-SLI motherboard(different powersupplies, etc) and both of them were doing the exact same thing, He was convinced that despite compatibility assurances, the cpu and fan weren't getting enough power. Someone tells him that the initial BIOS of the M2N-SLI doesn't support the Phenom processor and he'd have to update the BIOS. ...which is impossible because the computer won't boot!!!

This guy had to buy and install a cheap cpu, update the BIOS then swap the cheap cpu for the Phenom. That worked and he got his systems running. I'm doing the same. My friend ordered a cpu that'll get it running long enough to update the BIOS.

What pisses me off is that there was NOTHING about this anywhere as far as compatibility issues. NOTHING! I was assured with happy text that this motherboard was compatible with this processor! So what I want to know is, who do I seek clowny clowny vengeance against? Newegg? Asus? AMD? Who is responsible for this annoying oversight?

Depends how Newegg determines what's compatible with what. Just to be sure, target them all.

It's only my second, and though I was considerably more active in it's assembly this time, I still had a pro supervising. It's worth the hassle. You get a lot more computer for your money this way. *nod*

Knowing you, knowing your friends, I'd kill your friend.

Right now he's with your other friends having a beer and laughing.

Only your second? Granted, I've technically only had one, but I've stripped out and replaced every conceivable component including the casing over the years that I've been able to build three extra functional computers from the old parts. :p

If Asus and Newegg said the CPU and processor were compatible, then they're the ones that screwed up. Send them each a pie and/or weasel (preferably by aerial means, if you catch my drift). BTW, nice parts list. It should fly once it's up and running.

Sounds like the friend was the one with the frustration. That doesn't sound like a practical joke to me. Either that, or the friend is a good actor.

My friend ordered a cpu that'll get it running long enough to update the BIOS.

It also sounds like he's as eager to get it running as LG, if he's the one that ordered the other CPU.

You should get revenge on yourself for deciding to make a wholly new computer, thus leaving you with no easy way of determining what had failed to work. What's wrong with gradually upgrading a working system, swapping out individual parts?

Well, you could post comments on Newegg advising others of the problem, if that's possible.

But I would suspect that, if there are compatibility issues, it won't run as fast as it could do. Perhaps you could get a replacement sent by the supplier that will be fully compatible.

The motherboard was one of the first components I purchased, about 4 months ago. I suspect that later shipped boards probably included the updated BIOS.

Nah, the best revenge is to ignore them. Let your grammar to run free, allow your words be wild. Acting without consequence, those bastard's can be thwarted!
Dangle those participles; misspeel these words; if it feels good, done it! And don't forget to comma splice, comma splicing is very important.

Indeed.

You're unlucky, Goof. I managed to get away with everything on my own perfectly, with only a slight bit of trouble because my fingers were slightly too large to insert some of the wires. (Little sisters come in handy during cases like that. )

We don't know whether it was LG who spent an hour in consternation, cursing and making threats of bodily harm. His friend was merely scratching his head and saying 'I don't know LG, I can't imagine why it's not working, have you plugged it in?'

LG - My friend ordered a cpu that'll get it running long enough to update the BIOS.

It also sounds like he's as eager to get it running as LG, if he's the one that ordered the other CPU.

Note that his friend is ordering the CPU, what's the bet it doesn't work either.
