Not another Election Thread

Ok, so since I am tired of the Politics, tired of people planning Mc. Cain funeral and the collective cock sucking of Obama, and all the mess that entails the two activities. I decided that we need a thread that is NOT about the damn US election. You know the US Election is going on too long when even it's citizens are tired of it.

Anyways, what kind of board games do ya'll like to play?

For me, It'd have to be: Monopoly, Battle of the Sexes (even though I think this game is HIGHLY biased against men.), Dominos, Hold Short (It's an Aviation base game), and Uno.

I love dominoes, truco, Texas Hold 'em, Risk, (specially the 2640 or something like that).

I played the other day both Axis and Allies and Tides of Iron and liked both, even if they are a bit complex.

Board games, eh? Mainly Risk, but it has been quite a while since I've played it.

*Ok, so these are more card games than board games, but other people have already listed card games, so I figure it's ok.

Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel, one of my all time favorites. A bunch of corporate mercenaries invade a creepy maze filled with mutants (and zombies and demons) and wreck shit up with flame throwers, grenade launchers, machine guns and huge-ass swords.
The best part of it was that even though the mercenary players were theoretically on the same side (that is, opposing the army of bad guys) they were also competing with each other to kill the most baddies and complete secondary missions. It's a lot like Munchkin, in that my fondest memories of it are of screwing over my so-called "allies" for my own selfish purposes.

Board games? The only one I've played substantially is Monopoly. I'm not really the ideal sort of person to play it. I know pretty much all the strategies and what you should buy, so often get into what *should* be a winning position, but I don't really like bankrupting my opponents or making unfair deals. So eventually someone emerges as my main rival, and taking a more assertive approach inevitably win. I think I've won only once, actually.

House on Haunted Hill is so annoying. The entire concept of a cooperative board game that is cooperative right up until one player randomly turns into the opponent is silly.

I'd rather play Arkham Horror. Fully cooperative board game, 2-8 players, and all the Cthulu-Mythos bashing fun one might want.

Catch Phrase, Tribond, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Scrabble.

I have a nickname for Trivial Pursuit, WRONG. As thats what I hear anytime I answer a question. Damn that game is hard.

Scrabble on the other hand is brilliant. When playing with a few friends, I once flukily got three seven letter words in one game (one of them being "zonated" which I put down just for the lulz cos I was winning and thought it might be a word, which it turned out to be). I'm usually lucky if I get one seven letter word in about five games. So they all thought I was some sort of genius for about an hour until they remembered how incompetent at life in general I am and came back to their senses:p

I'm great at trivial pursuits, and not too bad at Trivial Pursuit, either.

My favorite game is Poleconomy. It's an English game, kind a mix between Monopoly and what I've heard of Diplomacy. My favorite parts are the elections. (Yes, I said the e-word.)

If you truely wanted a non-political thread (as if there aren't a lot already), you wouldn't have posted such a blatent peice of political flame-bait.

"Collective cock sucking of Obama?" Yes, the months of media coverage of Reverand Wright, the use of the "experience" meme as a statement of fact by the media, the fact that after 8 Bush years this is still a close ellection...

Oh, and I sure hope that McCain's funeral is a long way off. The thought of President Palin sends a chill through my bones.

Thank Jolt for these advertisements.

Wait.. it isn't a board game since it's the "the most entertaining video trivia game on the web".

Strip game is in.

I'm ignoring the "board" part in answering this question. Trivial Pursuit isn't bad if you're playing one of the older editions before the questions started including moronic hints. Munchkin is quite amusing, as already mentioned. Apples to Apples is hilarious at parties. Scrutineyes, Scattergories, and Facts in Five are old enough that they're less well-known, but are all good. No one outside of my immediately family has ever heard of Wizards as far as I can tell, but it's pretty fun. I've only played Settlers of Catan and Shadows Over Camelot twice each, but they both seemed like pretty good games. Taboo is pretty decent, although a bit too easy. Scrabble is a classic for a reason, although I get bored with it pretty quickly.

I don't really like the standard Monopoly/Life/etc. games very much, since they're very much more about luck than skill, and get tedious pretty quickly, although I will note that Solarquest is infinitely superior to Monopoly insofar as you get to buy entire planets rather than stupid streets in New Jersey.

Monopoly's always a good time-waster.

Axis and Allies Pacific is currently the game of choice for my friends and I. In our last game I played as the Japanese and managed to take India, and thus win the game, in only four turns.

My friends are probably plotting my demise as we speak.
