GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - A cat survived a 2 1/2-hour trip on a spare tire under her owner's truck. Gil Smith recently drove from his Gilbert home 70 miles away for a business meeting in Kearny. When he got out of the truck, he heard a cat in distress and realized it was his.

Smith said the cat, Bella, was hysterical, shaky and tired, but was smart enough to know not to jump off the tire as the truck was moving.

Smith and his wife have adopted three indoor cats, three goats and three chickens. But Smith said Bella, an outdoor cat the couple adopted years ago, has a special place in his wife's heart.

Smith said he canceled his meeting with a state Department of Economic Security official who had driven 50 miles to get to Kearny so he could get Bella home.

It was either that, or, he jokes, get a divorce.

Wow...now that is one brave cat. Knowing Amelia, she'd panic, jump out and become road kill.

A old teacher at school tied his dog to his car towbar while he went off and did something or other. When he returned he forgot about the dog and drove off.

It was pretty sick.

If I remember right, it was a dachshund, what they call a sausage dog, which it quite literally was around the 50mph mark.

Oh, dude, no ketchup jokes...

Poor fookin' thing. Guy must've felt like hell, too.

Worst part is, wee punter probably kept up until about 15 mph...

Same teacher flipped his lid at me once, I can't remember what set it off but he'd gone into this long speech about wasting talent and not caring about my future and it ended with the question: what exactly do you think you'll be doing in life?

'I'm thinking I might be a journalist', I replied.

He just flipped, tore off his jacket and started wailing me with it, threw some chalk and some papers and stormed out the class.

He was always a little distracted that way.

Wow...he does not sound stable....are we sure he dragged his dog by accident? Maybe it tinkle on the carpet that morning and this was his way of punishing it.

My cat seems to avoid cars all together, he even walks on the sidewalk. xD

That's one tough cat... the poor thing.
But I think most cats would stay put. It seems to be instinct. If you're in a shaky place, but there's danger outside, stay put.

Mine knows enough to give them a wide berth when they're moving. When they're standing still, though, she loves the view from the roof.
My BF's car keeps pissing her off, though, cause when he opens the boot part of the roof opens with it. Freaks the cat out no end. :D

Nothing against the cat that was entombed for seven weeks under a newly installed bath tub.

WOW and I thought some of the teachers I had were crazy. If that happened today I bet said teacher would be tried for assault and/or lose his job.

glad the cat survived. It's nice to know that he knows that Bella was more important than meeting some state Department of Economic Security official.

Uh...okay.

Cat could have been sequestered to rest and the meeting convened anyway, but no, that would make sense.

I've seen it happen 2 times in the past.

Once when the strays at a campsite snuck on the trip to the store (in the spare) then ran off when we got back.

And the second time, we found 3 kittens behind the wheel well(or whatever thing that is by the wheel) of the car after a 40 minute drive. (Alive)
