Most people here seem to have attended college or are currently attending, so I hope I'm not being to presumptuous in asking where you have attended/are attending and what you thought/think about it. This will allow me to mentally place you in the correct social caste, and speak to you in the proper manner accordingly. Also, as you've probably guessed, I'm currently trying to decide where to attend myself. Any thoughts, or suggestions?

I got my B.A.'s from Concordia University Wisconsin and I'm currently attending the University of Alabama for graduate school.

Concordia University is a very nice school... Beautiful campus, excellent professors, small classes, friendly student body... etc. The only real problem I had with the school was the administrators were so crooked they'd make politicians blush. While a sufficently crooked, P.R. obcessed administration is generally the norm for most universities, CUW is a Christian school and the administration there did a pretty poor job of acting in accordance to the Bible.

The University of Alabama is a good school, but it's more your typical cup of tea... Giant campus, boatloads of students, etc. So far, I've been very happy with the graduate level history program here... So it's pretty solid in academics.

Yeah, I was thinking university. In the US the terms are used more or less interchangeably. Oddly enough, the only time there's a difference is when you're speaking in general: "He went to college" means he attended some sort of post-secondary school; "He went to university" would never be said.

Is Open University an online program? I sometime see links for it on the BBC site.

I attended DeMontfort University, in Leicester (England, for our American cousins), but didn't graduate. That was a decade and a half ago.

I'm shortly aiming to continue education (again) online, 'at' Ashford.

Open University is remote-from-campus, if that's what you mean. OU existed before 'online' (as we know it) existed. :)

That reminds me - my other post should have mentioned that I did some OU, also.

Yeah, I tend not to talk about this much. I'm too much of a humming bird when it comes to university education. Three degrees across two universities. Hopefully I might finish one of them one of these days. Invariably what happens is I do well, then I get bored and fail... *ahem* First I went to UCL to study Chemistry, then to the University of Birmingham to study Political Science, and finally I transferred to the CS department to study Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science.

Which box does that put me in?

My bro's going to "Full Sail" (which, if I understand correctly, is mostly for video game production a development if you're interested in that) in October

That would be in Florida as well, I believe the tuition is a bit pricy, 2 year course for around $64,000 if I'm not mistaken, it's accelerated though, so 2 1 week breaks and no summer vacation *points and laughs at his brother*

I wouldn't know what with not paying a penny on account of me being apparently in poverty

you might want to look to see if the whole learn now donate later applies (basically people who the doctors etc OU have educated donate money to a fund that funds others like a cycle)

What's the party scene like?

University of Scranton eh? I had a girlfriend that went there. Very good school. They just put a shit load of money into new buildings too.

Considering you have the U listed, I'm assuming you'd have heard about Moravian College as well. Tiny school, but it was very good academically, staff was great. Nice campus with good people as well. I decided I'd rather work on race cars after my first year there though, so I said see ya later. Good thing too, I heard tuition went through the roof (read $40k and I was paying what I couldn't get in grants, scholarships, etc.). Too much money wasted for someone who has no idea what he wants to do with his life.

Actually, that's not true. The University of Scranton is fairly famous, as that is where Ryan from The Office went to business school. I may have even gotten something in the mail from them; I can't remember now.

I never tried OU from over here. It seemed like it would be easier to use something like DeVry or Ashford if I'm going to 'distance learn' now.

It's probably okay if you can send your work online. When I did it, you could do the work on your computer, print it on your computer... but they still wanted paper copies, and that means 'real' mail. And my experience of 'real mail' between the US and the UK is that, basically, it's shit.

I also had to do testing when I did mine - only one 'test' thing for each module taken, but you have to go to one of the locations they specify, and I don't know if they have any of them over here. If it's anything like Ashford, you can probably do your testing in a local library, or something.

When I was there in the '70s, it was a great experience. One or two professors were mediocre, but most were great teachers. The campus was beautiful and really quite gracious looking.

Thing have changed. Not for the better, I'm afraid. They've expanded the campus, leaving little of the green areas and the University itself is more about the almighty dollar than the education of students.

I'm speaking from the perspective of both a graduate and a retired employee.

Who was your professor? Perhaps I knew him/her.

One of the 60s Plate and Glass universities, it still has a nice campus, albeit quite small, consistently makes the top 10 in the country and is in the top 3 for Psychology (my subject) behind Oxford and Cambridge. Still building on it's international reputation though so I don't know where you'd consider that would put me, though it recently made it into the top 100 worldwide.

I'm currently looking for academic jobs though, so that's made me quite conscious of the relative reputations of various universities
