I need help. I'm going to declare that since computer help threads are allowed that this should be too (not that my declarations mean anything)

I have a problem, you can solve it.

I have 5 colors of carpet squares each is the same size.

I have 40 of color A
I have 20 of color B
I have 20 of color C
I have 20 of color D
I have about 20ish of color E

Make me a pattern.

Please.

Help.

You are my only hope.

I think this should work. You've got one of each colour but colour A (Red), which has two, so the proportions should work out.

Does that make sense?

(Feel free to switch around the order of the twenty-square colours to fit an aesthetic sensibility)

A B C D E A
E A D C A B
A C B E D A
C A E B A D

Uhmmm...rinse and repeat, 3 times, either horizontally or vertically. As someone else said, you have 2 color A for each of other colors. So place it in lines of six, one of each color and two A color. I placed the reds alternate in the extremes and insides, but without placing them together to avoid color saturation.

EDIT: Fixed for the sake of not repeating places of each color.

10 sq by 12 sq?

what's the general shape of the room or whatever this will be used for?

it's a rectangle, it lays out about 10 X 11 with a partial square on each edge (so like 11 and 1/2 squares?)

it's a rectangle I'm ignoring the foyer and the smallish hallway into the dining room.....and the fireplace which I will have to cut around, the hearth sticks out a bit.

Some ideas I came up with...
this is a 10x12 setup. so feel free to cut the 1/2 out.
and this is assuming E is at least 20.

You inspired me. I put the squares down in the pattern of my favorite crossword puzzle.

*yes, I'm such a dork that I have a favorite crossword puzzle.

... velcro...

then you can 'swap' the squares out and actually have a crossword puzzle you and your family can do for family time and can create new ones.

That is an insanely cool idea. You are just perfection today! Thanks!
