Best friends

How many of you have best friends who are the opposite sex of you? So if you're a male, do you have a female who is your best friend, and vice versa?

Why is it, that when a man and a woman are best friends, everyone always think they're either dating, or sleeping together? Can't they be best friends without wanting to have sex with each other?

I am best friends with a female, and yes people do ask and assume we're either dating or sleeping together. It's annoying.

Because you hang out with infantile people?

I know exactly how you feel. A majority of my friends are female and most people in my school seem to think that I'm dating one or the other (occasionally both). Annoying is a good way to start describing it, but after three years, it's just plain old. People just assume that since they're the oppsite sex as I that we have no options other than dating.

True, I need to find better people.

Would you like to be my friend? I'll pay your lawyer fee. :D

This seems about the most likely explanation, to be honest. I have quite a few close male friends, and I've never had anyone assume I'm sleeping with/dating any of them.

My best friend in the world is a woman, we've never dated, or been intimate in any way.

Don't get me wrong, I'd do her in a heartbeat. I just haven't.

All three of my closest friends are female. And yes, whenever I am seen with one of them, it is generally assumed that I am sleeping with them, too.

Then again, it is probably because I am in highschool...

most of my friends are female but that will learn me for being such a vagina magnet >.>

I don't really pay much notice to it because its usually done in a nice "awww you look so cute" way (if they have any taste that is) and its done because when your pissed at 2am the love is everywhere

This seems about the most likely explanation, to be honest. I have quite a few close male friends, and I've never had anyone assume I'm sleeping with/dating any of them.

when your with any of them do you still get guys hitting on you?

Don't get me wrong, I'd do her in a heartbeat. I just haven't.

but she hangs around with such a horrible crowd

Then again, it is probably because I am in highschool...

there is no need to worry because eventually they will just think your gay :)

Yes.

"When Harry met Sally", right?

It was bullshit then and it's still bullshit. Of course they can be. *Points to self as example*

Because most humans are heterosexual, and people are idiots. But don't worry, if you say you're not sleeping with your friend, we believe you

If I recall correctly, you said you lost your virginity to a "friend". You used a condom, she used a pill.

Oh, and I have no friends; who in Gilfig's name would be crazy enough to befriend insipid me?

Good question. Most of my close friends are females and I slept with only a few of them.

My best friend is a guy.

While we were at university, everyone assumed we were sleeping together. It came as quite a shock to them that we weren't :/

I have friends of both genders. My best friend, a male, lives in California and I haven't talked to him for months. Thanks for the heads-up, I'm calling him tonight. While he's cute enough (and ten years younger than I), I wouldn't sleep with him, it would ruin a really good relationship.

Most of my friends are guys... including two of my best friends. My *best* friend is female, but otherwise, I only have one girlfriend... and many guy friends. I just get along so much better with guys.

Of my guy friends, my two closest are strictly platonic and always have been. One guy friend liked me for a long time, another had a crush for awhile, but I was with my ex through it all and we remained friends during and after. One is an iffy area, in that we had one drunken night of bad decisions shortly after my ex decided he loathed the sight of me, but in the morning we were still just friends and it hasn't been awkward even since then... so, yes. Otherwise, all my guy friends are just friends.

Only happened once. I hang out with a ton of girls as well as guys, so someone did ask me that. I find it hilarious, as none of us see each other that way, especially them and me. (I'm ugly, ask anybody)

I can't say I've ever been asked that about my close friends.

Actually, I lie, I can think of one occasion; I found it quite surprising that they thought that of me (and not in a good way either).

My best male friends and I end up so close that we're like siblings. People don't like assuming you're sleeping together when they're not entirely sure whether or not you're related ...

Oh it's worse when one of ya'll have a bf/gf. Because trust me, then people start to think that there's "cheating" going on.

Same here, if given the chance, I would sleep with my best friend. and it would probably be the best night of my life.

Thanks. Just because I'm not sleeping with her, doesn't mean I don't want to though hehe.

I have a lot friends that are women. A few of us have always joked about it just to get a reaction from people but I haven't slept with any of them. However if the opportunity arose...

The only people that ever assume I sleep with my best female friends are strangers. I have slept with one or two of them but there was mitigating circumstances.

Because from my experience, that's what always ends up happening (unless one of you are really ugly).

I've actually had very few male friends in my life. My current best friend is female, and we are living together, but not having sex because her husband live with her as well. He's been amazingly cool about how close his wife and I are.

My best friend is a guy but I haven't done anything with him. I find I have very little in common with women. I don't care about feelings, fashion and other similar bullshit. And I don't have motivation of wanting to sleep with them to put up with it that other men might.

Actually one time I was visiting my cousin and we were out on the town and we ran into a couple of people she knows and they asked if she was sleeping with me. A quick "No, this is my cousin" was enough to stop that discussion.

I have a few close friends that are female, though my closest are all male and none of them seem to think I am sleeping with them especially as they all have boyfriends already.

I'm best friends with a male other than my fiance, and no one thinks we're dating or sleeping together. And we are both interested in the opposite gender;it's just we were never free at the same time in years past, and now we don't want to mess up the close relationship with have by changing anything. (We've each discussed our heartbreaks and triumphs with each other over the past 20 years.)

Yes, you can be best friends with the opposite gender.

Um, weren't you the one who said you'd get all up in a guy's face if you thought he was cheating because you saw him out with another girl? Maybe you might be jumping to the same conclusion you hate others jumping to when you're involved?
