I haven't seen one of these threads in awhile, sooooo...If you had the chance to, would you have an intimate relationship with a cousin of yours? This is assuming that they are closer relation, so 1st, 2nd or 3rd cousins are applicable. If you say no, why?

This came up in a convo I was having with a Muslimah friend. She said in Islam its quite okay to marry cousins. And I said here in the USA its looked down upon for some reason.

Anyways, what say you?

Eh, no. Maybe if he was, like, a fourth cousin or something, but anyone I grew up knowing as a family member is quite definitely off-limits.

Only if i was in kentucky, jk. I would say no if they we're 1st-3rd but beyong that its hard to trace my family.

Spmehow its funny when people find out that the person they've been dating is they're cousin. That's always funny.

Most of my cousins are female, and, while quite nice people, not of the type I would turn gay for. Of the males, one is severely schizophrenic and the other is a Seal which, while intriguing, is too intense for me. So, no, no cousins in my romantic future.

I've never felt any attraction toward my cousins. I would think that maybe a relationship with a 2nd cousin would be OK, but not closer.

I'd recommend avoiding relationships with anyone who refers to their nearest male relative as 'Uncle Dad".

Nope. I don't have any cousins, or any biological relatives at all in fact, but even taking genetic problems out of the equation, I still couldn't imagine it.

Even if it were a distant relative, my gut would probably veto any justifications. :tongue:

My ex's family is from Oklahoma/Texas and, before that, from Tennessee. They're products of generations of dedicated inbreeding. That, all by itself should discourage any matches with cousins.

Gossips are like entropy. It will always leak under the second law of thermodynamic. Sex is great, but it's not worth the dramas involving relatives and family members for the rest of my life.

Then again I tend to avoid talking to all my relatives in general. No matter their personalities they are simply in a position that makes them too dangerous to associate with. Even the smallest spark is too much in a close room full with gasoline.

Probably not, because as far as I'm aware, all of my cousins are rednecks. Even if that wasn't the case, I'd not go any closer than fourth cousin.

Eh it'll have to be a no, merely because all my cousins that i know are either FUGLY or idiots or many years younger than me. If you happen to find a hot cousin of mine that i didn't know about, please give me a shout though, i would probably change my mind.

Not my first cousin. She's pretty but not attractive to me, if you see what I mean. My second cousins are all 25 or so years older than me and married, haven't seen them for about 6 years, the women aren't attractive. My 3rd cousins are all a bunch of ugly freaks, haven't seen them for 6 years or so, I don't know who my 4th cousins are.

Oooh, I definitely had a crush on one of my French cousins when I was younger. However, I don't think I'd ever quite be able to forget that she's changed my nappies. It's not as big an age gap as you might think. Smaller than the one between my Mum and Dad at any rate.

I'm cool with people doing that, because there isn't a serious chance of birth defects, like if you sex a sibling or a parent (Only 4%, seriously people). And no, I would not have a relationship with any of my cousins because both of them are in India and I don't like them anyway.

The only cousin of mine I know of is a lot older than me, not attractive to me, and married with a kid. No, not for me, thanks.


However, I'm not generally opposed to cousins of whatever degree to be in a healthy relationship.

Actually, I think most of the distantly related couples I know are not Muslims. I am saying this off the top of my head, though, not that I have decent statistics about it...

Oh, and also, I would not have an intimate relationship with my cousin - she is good looking, very good looking, but we both lack siblings and we grew up together - you just don't feel that kind of attraction to a person who you have seen with diapers and who is the closest thing you have to a sister.

But I am not against it - when it becomes love you are hurt either by preventing it or by going with it - second option seems better to me ;)

If I did fall completely in love with my cousin, I'd probably screw social stigma. Judaism has no restrictions on marrying cousins.

In the United States, some of the states outlaws relationship/marriage to first cousins but as for second cousin and so on, its not illegal. Its pretty interesting to look at this website: http://www.cousincouples.com/ it has all the laws based on these cousin marriages, recently, Texas prohibits first cousin marriages. In all seriousness: I have no problems with a relationship between cousins. All relationships between (legally) consenting adults are unproblematic in my book.

I don't have a (hawt) cousin of the opposite sex myself, so it's not an issue with me.

Given that one of my cousins is rather well endowed and only a year older than me, I'd have no problem with a physical relationship. However, she's very religious and I'm very anti-religious, so there's no way that I'd be able to stand being around her longer than a month, much less long enough to have kids.

Well my cousins are both girls and live on the other side of the world but even if I wasn't gay and didn't live in the UK I would still not kiss my cousins! thats just wierd! maybe on the cheek to say hello ect. go all continental but snogging? no way! far to sexual for a cousin !
