What is the best and worst restaurant you have eaten at?

Best: Costello's Pizza and Pasta, they make a "Tour of Italy" to die for! Every time I eat their "Tour of Italy", I have an orgasam in my mouth and in my pants. It is just that good.

Worst: What-a-Burger, I ate a hot dog there one time, got food poisoning. Never going back.

Worst: I cant remember the name, it was one of those "Traveler's Grills"
I ate at it in South Carolina, I was fucking sick for the rest of the trip...you havent lived till you have fluids coming out of both ends while your stuck on the side of the road outside Atlanta cause the brakes on your bus melted.....

God i hated that bus ride, i refuse to bus anywhere from now on, lol...

Best: Novo in Angers, France followed very closely by an Italian restaurant whose name I can't remember in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario

Worst: Waffle House in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Best: there are too many... recently I ate at this wonderful Mexican place (I forget the name of it) and there's a Hungarian place around the corner that's awesome (the couple that own it are adorable) and this one Indian place is delicious as well... and this is just nearby.

Worst: Since I don't eat meat, this will have to go to places that don't accommodate my diet or that don't mention when there's meat in their dishes. For instance, Cracker barrel. It had no vegetarian meals on the menu so I ordered a "meal" of three side dishes. The menu didn't mention that the lima beans includes ham.
There was this place in Ottawa that I went for breakfast where the waitress was super bitchy and wouldn't let me order a meal without bacon or tell the kitchen staff to put it on the side so it came with bacon draped over the entire plate... but then my friends complained to the manager on my behalf and he fixed it. Still, worst waitress ever at least.

Worst for me would be any restaurant where I've gotten food poisoning. That's only happened a few times of course, but it's always memorable. The last time was about eleven years ago, when I was road-tripping up to the Monterey Aquarium (California). I had a tuna sandwich someplace just north of Santa Barbara, and it took about three days to get over it. That's no fun.

Best:
Childhood memories of Red Robin's tell me that its the greatest single place for food on the planet.
Currently I'm inclined to say Texas Roadhouse, if I'm limited to local choices. The service is a bit wanting, and a waiter there once called me 'hun' (he may have just been tired), but the food is good. The only real downside is that it tends to be loud.

Worst:
The McDonalds outside of Harrods in London. My tour group ate there once and, mysteriously, I was the only one who managed to get food poisoning. From french fries.
I was stuck in bed for two days out of a five day tour. Fortunatly my purchases at Harrods included a Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett on CD. A strange sort of purchase, considering I dont normally go for books on tape. Maybe it was a sort of unconscious thing. That or I just had Tourist Buy Stuff Syndrome.
Funnily enough, I've never eaten at a McDonalds again.

I have to break it down

Best Mexican - Three Margaritas
Best steakhouse - Saltgrass
Best Pizza - American Pie
Best Italian - not Olive Garden
Worst Chinese - P.F. Chang (overpriced, too)

Have to think about any more.

The worst restaurants are definitely those applebee clones as well as applebee. Its fast food but made to look like its not. Deceptive!

tough question...

Best: Floor 13 restaurant at the Dundalk Crown Plaza in Ireland. best. steak. ever. with a chocolate fondue dessert and exquisite duck starter. wonderful atmosphere, great company, excellent service, lovely views, and it was only last week, too :)

Worst: much tougher question... probably a buffet meal at a conference i attended last year. the quiche was just unspeakable - i'm not sure how they did it, but it seemed there was more water in the quiche than quiche. picking it up was hard enough, but biting into it lead to a soggy, wet, cold, and utterly tasteless mush. the rest of the food on offer was largely just as bad, including the very old looking salad, and very off smelling eggs. never going there for a conference again

of course, i've had food that actually, truly, tastes bad. but this gets my vote because a) its simple and they fucked it up that badly; and b) because quiche can be very tasty indeed:rolleyes:

There was a mexican restaurant in Pensacola Florida call simply, "Margarita". Best food, drinks, price and service ever.

Worst was "Krystal", a southern version of White Castle. Horrendous. I don't understand how people can rave about places like Krystal and White Castle. A friend of mine in the Navy made me go there telling me how awesome the food was. The chili cheese pups were passable. Everything else sucked beyond words. This disappointment earned my friend several groin kicks.

Best: A local Italian restaurant in a place no one of you ever heard of.

Worst: A chinese restaurant in the same place because no one there speaks German well and that makes me feel as if I have to excuse for not speaking Chinese...

Specifically, the one at 6th and Pennsylvania Ave, in Washington DC.

Worst:

Probably the worse made ethnic food on the planet. Every location I've been to is as dirty as the inside of a sewer trap, and the smell is horrendous.

What exactly is a "Tour of Italy" anyway?

It's probably an assortment of entrees (at Olive Garden, which SUCKS as an Italian restaurant, it's veal parmesan, lasagna, and fettucine alfredo).

What passes for foreign food at the major chain restaurants (and some local restaurants) is passingly strange.

Ah, I'd assumed Costellos was a local restaurant.

So it's just a random assortment of "Italian" food? Weird.

Best: Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi. You sit down and waiters with huge skewers of every type of meat wander round offering you a slice of this and that. Plus with the exchange rate the prices aren't too bad.

Worst: A small French Pizza place I went to not far from St Jean de Monts. They managed to burn and undercook the same pizza.

Worst: What-a-Burger, I ate a hot dog there one time, got food poisoning. Never going back.

Hate to tell you this, but that's not Italian food. I've been to Italy and I can say most definitely that actual Italian food well tastes like Italian. I even brought some real Italian paste back with me. BEST PASTE EVER! As much as I miss Italian food, I was glad to be back in the states. While, American "Italian" isn't the same, at least they try. So, you want a real orgasm in your month. Actually, go to Italy. You won't be disappointed.

BTW, you should of tried Mel's. They sell mostly hot dogs and they don't poison their customers, as far as I know.

Anyway, here's my short list as to list them all would just take to long.

Best: Well, that's hard to say however I would say the most memorable meal(s) was this small restaurant in Venice, Italy followed by one at a hotel I was staying at in Venice and third by a small café in Salzburg, Austria.

However, for pure consistency considering how many times I've been there, I would have to say Cracker Barrel. Out of all the meals I've eaten at their various restaurants only 1 or 2 meals have come out that I didn't like.

Worst: That's one easy. It would have to be a hamburger I had at McDonald’s. Talk about food poisoning. I was deathly sick for over a month and even ended up going to the hospital. So, if you can top that off be my guest. I haven't eaten anything from McDonald’s since then and that was nearly ten years ago. I even went to visit a McDonald’s in Europe and someone offered me fries and I wouldn't even eat that. Since, then I try to avoid fast-food whenever possible and though occasionally my will power will break down I refuse to eat at all at either McDonald’s, Burger King or Taco Bell. I've been thinking about adding Checkers, but I so do love their fries.

Ah, I'd assumed Costellos was a local restaurant.

So it's just a random assortment of "Italian" food? Weird.

Best: Don Pablo's. Chicken Quesadillas are perhaps the best food ever, and theirs are the best of the best.

Worst: I generally don't have bad experiences, though this one time I went to Eat-N-Park and the french fries I'd ordered seemed like they'd been reheated.

A restaurant in the home town of Balzac in France, I can't remember the name. It was an exquisite 12 courses over 4-5 hours, along with amazing wine. And only £70 each.

Most amazing meal I have ever eaten.

People really shouldn't be judging their "worsts" based on food poisoning. Such things are generally one offs, and it isn't necessarily the fault of the restaurant.

Worst: If you've never been to a Ryan's Buffet, you have no idea just how terrible food can be. It's just . . . eugh. The sort of shitty bland, soggy food that Europeans always point to when bitching about "American" food.
As for my "best;" well, what are we judging on? Overall menu, best menu item, or greatest general appeal?
Best Menu Item: Five Guys (http://www.fiveguys.com/), this place makes fucking good fries. And I mean absolutely the best, fucking fries in the whole world. Such a shame their burgers are so mediocre.
Best Overall Menu: Some Mediterranean place around Columbus (I think). It has been over a year since I went there, but it was delicious and healthy.
General Appeal: Woorijip, a cheap Korean Buffet. Not quite sure why it appeals to me so much, but what can you do? Buy some spam fried rice, egg pancakes and Apple soda, I guess.

I don't know what they gave you, but they don't serve hotdogs.

http://www.whataburger.com/browse_our_menu.php

They do have pretty good burgers, though. And their onion rings are without a doubt the best anywhere.

Best: Herrera'a Cafe On Maple Ave in Dallas (once featured in National Geographic). But only that one. The newer satellite locations just aren't up to snuff. It's always the first place I go when I'm back in town.

Worst: Imo's Pizza on Paris Road in Columbia, Missouri. They have recently closed down. No doubt by decree of the health department. Blech!

Best would be a Japanese/Chinese place on Boston Post Road in Springfield, Massachusettes called "Rice"!
Best damn:
Sushi
Sashimi
Hibachi
and, to be specific;
General Tso's Chicken
EEEVVVEEERR!!!, ANYWHERE!

Worst would be this little shitpot steakstand 1/2 mile outside Philly naval base on the left hand side of the road, past the park. barely worth remembering, until this thread popped.

Best:Christ, where to begin?
Spratnet, in Saint Kitts, is pretty touristy but does a great grilled lobster. It's basically a giant outdoor patio with a barbeque--very simple food, but well done.
Ichbei, in Ottawa, took my sushi virginity. In that sense I'm biased, but I've been back since and it's still fantastic.
Horn of Africa, in Ottawa. It looks a little dingy, but they make great Ethiopian food. Also the cheapest bottled beer I've seen anywhere.

Worst: Chipican, in Sarnia, Ontario. It's a dingy, 1950s vintage roadside steakhouse attached to a dodgy motel. Why I even agreed to eat there is beyond me.

Best Steak: The King's Arms in Williamsburg, VA. I had a filet mignon there that was so good it brought tears to the eyes and so tender you could cut it with the side of a fork.

Best Thai: Bangkok Garden in Columbia, MD

Best Indian: House of India, Columbia MD

Best Chinese: Asean Bistro, Columbia, MD

Best Italian: Da Noi, Staten Island, NY

Best Japanese: Moyomama restaurant, Edgewater NJ

Worst: Jesus, people, stay away from chain restaurants. You're never going to get awesome food at Uno's, or Applebees, or Friday's, or McDonalds. Passable, yes. Decent even, maybe. Awesome? Never.

Local places ftw, always!

I'm assuming this is the only location that closed in Columbia? Besides, everyone orders from Gumby's or Shakespeare's anyway.

Best "Other": Veselka (Hungarian), Liomzyniainka (Polish), both are in NY
Best American: Wine Cellar & Bistro Columbia, MO (Cherry)
Best Pizza: Da Nico New York, NY (Mulberry)
Best Vegan/Vegetarian: Foodswings in Brooklyn (Grand St.), Main Squeeze Columbia, MO (9th St)
Best Indian: Jaipur Fairfax, VA
Best Thai: Bangkok Garden's Columbia, Mo and Siri's Cherry Hill, NJ
Best Japanese: Osaka Columbia, Mo and Ninja NY New York, NY (Hudson)

Worst: I HATE Sbarro, so I will always say it has the worst food.

Worst: Some roadhouse in the middle of nowhere where all the food was deep fried & had been sitting the bain marie for hours.

Best: A seafood restaurant in Sarasota, Florida. The name escapes me at the moment but they have some of the best mussels and shrimp I have ever eaten.

Worst: McDonalds, it feels like I'm eating a soggy, oil filled hunk of fetid meat instead of a hamburger.

The best? Wow, this is hard. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the place in Rome with the Carbonara I had that was mind-blowingly awesome. 'Chocolate' in Santa Cruz, despite the name, isn't just a desert place, having really tasty dinners as well. I ate at a number of restaurants in Spain that were good, though all had shitty beer selection (I use the term "selection" loosely, usually it was just some unidentifiable generic lager), and in a couple the experience was somewhat tarnished by all the cigarette smoke (I'm unusually sensitive to this, I guess). The Lighthouse Cafe in Oakland is a great restaurant.

It's hard to pick out a single "best restaurant," since many of the ones I've liked are good at different things.

As for the worst. That either has to go to a crappy place in Rome near St. Peter's Square with terrible service, and carelessly prepared, shitty, overpriced food... or Taco Bell. I grew up eating home cooked tacos, as well as eating at several excellent Mexican places in my town. When I first had Taco Bell, I was beyond disgusted. Then again, the only fast food places I like are Carl's Junior and In'and'Out.
