Do you think his good close personal friends are allowed to call him 'Mushy'?

possibly in a GOOD way, yes. considering as how he's been a major roadblock to pakistan achieving that much sought after chaos known as democracy.

granted democracies are the most inconvenient forms of government for and to other democracies, but i fail to see anything just in one person having more right to it because of where in the world they were born, then someone who'se fortune it is, to have been born in another.

er, i haven't been keeping up, but this musharif feller is/was pakistan right? or is/was he one of the other places economic intrests have found convienient and prefered, to keep from democracy in any real sense for their own people?

(like iraq, afghanistan, some such. i ferget)

Let the trial begin.

Yup - Chen Shui Bian is being done for corruption, Thaksin Shinawatra was always going down that road, no wonder people try to hold onto power.

Yes your Cameroinyness - Pervez was from Pakistan

so he gets to spend the rest of his life in a luxury mansion (possibly under house arrest) it won't change Pakistan seeing as how he lost power quite some time ago

When I read this I though it was the Michael Phelps thread. I was going to say that the luxury mansion is fine, but house arrest is a dubious reward for winning so many medals...

Damn...I was hoping for some defiance from the self-professed "Commando"...possibly ending in some lamp post a la Najibullah.

His son (Bilal Musharraf) is a green card holder in US. I can see him "retiring" in the US.

The civilian layer on top of the military is now complete. The military is now free of any pressure since the civvie govt will be absorbing the pressure.

What constitution?

That mutilated piece of paper is used for wiping the bottoms in Pakistan.

This is very important, and I'm glad to see that the UK has been involved in diplomacy and in reaching a solution that doesn't involve dropping explosives on urban areas.

The main thing is ensuring that the PML-N don't force the PPP into a show trial, or, worse, for the PPP out of the coalition. That will completely destabilise the country, particularly the tribal regions, which would have negative consequences throughout the region.

I don't think they will, as a lot of major powers are interested in making sure that doesn't happen, but it doesn't rule of the possibility of some ambitious pretender making a desperate bid to grab power during the transition time.

I dislike posting in NSG but I won't let you guys bash Mr. Musharraf like this... :P

Unlike some of you guys, I know Pakistan and its people; I've been there multiple times. Quite possible the only guy that is pro-West in Pakistan, we are about to lose a very good ally. Musharraf captured hundreds of terrorists that were along the Pakistani-Afghanistan borders. And this does not even include those that were killed in anti-terrorist ops in the region.

Oh, you guys can bash him, but you leave out his accomplishments? LOL. Let's mention how it was he who decided to keep reserved seats in the National Assembly for women and minorities. But nah, you guys wouldn't care about equality! All that matters is that he resigned and a new government, anti-West of course, will take power! yay!

@Aryavartha: I would appreciate it if it stop defacing Pakistan. Your typical, "lol India iz betta" posts are getting annoying. So unless you could make some facts instead of this filth that you are saying, then kindly leave.

Or this could mean that Pervy's buddies at the ISI have pulled some strings so he can pull a Vladdy P and run things from behind the scenes.

...do we care much?

The amount of men, and equipment, that is now pouring into Afghanistan, and destined for insurgent fighters has probably tripled.

It all depends on who replaces him, if some renegade general madman seizes power of this nuclear capable nation, and then decides to occupy Indian Kashmir then we should care alot.

^That chances of that happening are what, next to nothing, not like it's happened before eh? *nod

If turns out well, we will keep our powerful ally. If if turns out bad, India will be the first move if they try anything. Consequences, Dire for both parties.

Care yes, Worry no.

Serious Note:- If a Anti West government gets in, one that supports the insurgent cause against the west, one that does nothing about the training camps and actively helps their cause. Then what would stop Pakistan from rolling over the Afghan border and evicting the coalition?

It's unlikely, but possible.

Doubt that, considering that the interim President, appointed by Musharraf, has only 30 days before Parliament gets a new President in there. And dollars to donouts that the President will be anti-Musharraf and anti-West.
