The penguin has long been the mascot of the King's Guards of Norway, and in that role has risen through their ranks, starting out as a lowly lance corporal and eventually making it to colonel-in-chief, The Daily Telegraph reported.
But Friday, Nils Olav became Sir Nils Olav as 130 King's guardsmen gathered at the Edinburgh Zoo to knight the penguin in a formal ceremony.
And of course our hero was dressed for the occasion!
I thought it would be nice to add something wierd.
lol. I read this article a couple days ago and found it hysterical. I think the picture of the penguin marching past the honorary guard left me holding my ribs for a good five minutes.

Have you had a look at NSG recently?

Most of it is pretty normal for NS stuff.

I read about this is in Independent yesterday. It seems that the current Penguin is in fact the son of the original penguin who was first promoted to corporal, then up to Sergeant Major, before passing on. The rank of the father passed to the offspring, and so the current bearer of the name Nils Olav has rose to become, as mentioned, a Colonel.
It's humorous, but at the same time touching. I don't know if they've mentioned this in those linked articles, but the Penguin is in fact named after the Lieutenant that first suggested that the King's Guard adopt a Penquin as a mascot, Nils Egelien, now a retired Major. The tradition started in 1961, when the regiment toured Edinburgh Zoo, and collectively became very interested in the King Penguins.
Congratulations on the promotion, Colonel Olav!

Oh, dear gods.
I, for one, welcome our new penguin overlords.
A medal was also attached to his wing.
Or, as the penguin saw it, "not food"

"Penguin Beknighted" would be a good title for a new Batman comic or film. I'd watch it.

He certainly looks the part when inspecting though when he's dubbed with the sword, seems he wants none of that blade hanging around his neck.
I suspect he's getting laid tonight down at penguin palace.
So cute... So deadly! :eek2:

[I can't figure out how to spell the penguin noises from that episode. Pretend I did.]

Only he was still played by Danny DeVito. Or Bender.
