Sigs and Personality

Spin-off from the Personality Clues From Avatars thread.
So what can you tell about people from their sigs?
For instance, even if Zilam weren't so open about his religion in his posts, you can tell from his sig that he's a very devout Christian. That's a pretty easy one, what about others?

Dumb Ideologies

It depends on the person. Like from mine you can probably tell I'm desperately attention seeking and trying to give the false impression that I'm all quirky and interesting with bright colours and odd capitalization:p
From other posters, generally the quotes they've chosen, or their political compass score if they've put it there, give an indication of their political viewpoint, but not usually their personality. Its only if you watch people post on a range of issues for a substantial period of time that you can kinda get any idea of their personality.
I'm not sure a signature really conveys all that much of a personality. It can give you a bit of a clue, but not much more than that.
Take my signature for instance. I note that I am going into the U.S. Navy. Statistically speaking this should indicate I am an American right-wing conservative, yet as everyone can see from my posts this is far from the truth.

What's wrong with the political compass results? It gives you a quick indication of the style of politics the person supports.

I'm not sure that's really necessary...

I guess as so many people do it, it could be considered cliche and uninventive, when signatures are ideally meant to contain wit in its purest and most concentrated form. But I'm proud of being cliche and uninventive.

Sometimes people put wee bits of information about themselves in their sig, and that gives you something to build from, or quotes they like can tell you what kind of humour or wit they appreciate, and I suppose whether or not they use colour or whatever, or a different font, can give you something. I suppose you go with what you know of a poster from their posts, add what you can discern from their post, and subconsciously form an opinion of them.
God knows what that says about me, mind.

Too far to really be practical(or gas worthy, especially since I don't have my own car). But thank you for the offer. http://generalitemafia.ipbfree.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif

I kind of live by the Burroughs quote, the last on might come in handy one day, you never know (all I'm saying is if I come across a giant killing robot, I'm trying that first...)
My nephew on occasion can crack me up. The other one rotates when I see or hear something that cracks me up and can fit. At best it says where I've been or what I've been watching right before I changed it.
Some worship, a pic, and a quote...
...kinda simple really. Bonus points if you can name the quoted author.
I don't think mines gives a great deal of insight into me as a person (at least I don't think so), but I think having the compass results is good on a mostly political forum, as it gives some idea of the political point of view you are coming from. The blog links, however gives people the chance to see a bit more of my nature if they want to, but I don't reveal that much of my personal life online. They are still more concerned with views and beliefs than my private life, however, which is - funnily enough - private.
It also corrects the often held yet utterly incorrect assumption that I'm a Marxist.

I like the compass scores too, for the same reason. I hate all the actual tests that produce the scores but, so long as the majority of people are using the same tests, the results should be valid as a comparator if nothing else. I don't pay much attention to sigs for the most part, though. I had them turned off for a while (when lots of people started to use large text) and I'll probably disable them again at some point.
I find that it's the mis-use or non-use of the location info text field that winds me up the most. Even more than a compass score it provides an opportunity to let the other users of the forum know, literally, where you're coming from. In a forum where there's occasionally a discussion worth reading it could be a really valuable tool, and yet there still seem to be people who think that it's a good idea to obfuscate with some variant of "Durr, I'm behind you!!!111!" or some other 'witticism'.
Meh.

Totally agree, there. Again, given it's a political forum knowing if the other person is coming from an Asian, Mid-Eastern, European or American view of the world is a real heads up, especially as we all have such different interpretations of political terms.
