Caffeine
As a grad student, I encounter this wonderful substance on a daily basis as it helps keep me sane and productive. In the last year I've trained myself to drink coffee black (it's so much easier to just drink the coffee at talks instead of juggling the coffee, a cookie, a sugar package and a stir stick and then have to hunt down a garbage can for the sugar package... et c) and I've become a fan of tea (it's cheaper than coffee and I can make it in my office... plus it's yummy) and more recently, I've become a fan of espresso (something about concentrated coffee is just great) aside from the drinking of caffeinated soft drinks (Dr Pepper is awesome [in Canada... American Dr Pepper is terrible]).
So I was wondering what everyone's preferred caffeine delivery system is and what caffeinated beverage preparation devices you own (I personally have a tea pot with basket for loose teas, a kettle and a french press and am on the hunt for a cheap espresso making device).

I get the caffeine any way I can and any opportunity I can because not only would I be fired if I fell asleep at work, but I could get killed. Plus between family and work, I just don't have enough time for sleep because there literally aren't enough hours in a day. Dern biological need for sleep...

What do you do?
I'm happy that the worst thing that happens if I fall asleep at work is that my supervisor happens to find me asleep at my desk and makes fun of me.
You know, as long as you're nakedly lusting for stimulants, why stop at caffeine? Methamphetamines would be far more effective and give you that extra 'zap' your heart seems to require.

I very often have a Vault or a large mug of coffee on my desk at work, and when really needing to stay up late for studying/papers/whatever I find some sort of energy drink to be incredibly useful. I'm partial to Full Throttle, though I also like most other energy drinks well enough.

Are they legal and would I actually be productive on them?
Are they legal
Of course (http://www.nida.nih.gov/infofacts/ADHD.html)!
and would I actually be productive on them?
That depends on what you want to be producing...

Take amphetamines to the extent it would "boost" your performance and you won't be the same again, I guarantee it. In my work involves being around mentally ill patients and patients with behavioral issues like substance abuse, and if you fall asleep, you or the patient or others can wind up injured or killed.

I gave up caffeine about half a year ago. I now drink sprite and sierra mist instead of coke and pepsi. If I need energy during the day, I eat a piece of fruit.
Of course (http://www.nida.nih.gov/infofacts/ADHD.html)!
Except that I don't have ADHD, so it would be illegal for me to take them, unlike caffeine.

Nothing quite like black coffee to keep one awake and warm on a patrol in winter. Of course in the summer I tend to stick to coke, it's not as good for you, but drinking hot coffee when it's 90 degrees out is rather stupid.

That's why they invented iced coffee.

No. That's why they invented determination and strength of will. Deny this Coffee God for it is a false idol that gives you temporary power but will weaken you when withdrawn. Soon you will become dependent and it will have you. Have you in it's gritty clutches.
Coffee and tea, all types in abundant quantities.
I like caffeine, but I dislike coffee in any form that isn't assaulted by sufficiently large amounts of milk, chocolate and caramel to cover the actual taste of it. Chocolate covered espresso beans are divine, but tend to make me a little crazy. I do take caffeine pills when I need them, and no, I'm not a trucker.
Also, while speed is illegal without a prescription and habit-forming, you WILL be productive as hell on it. Especially if your house/apt. needs cleaning.

Blasphemer. *drinks gallon of water*
I hope I never have to use caffeine. Not that there is inherently anything wrong with it.. I'd just be the sort of person to become dependent on it to get moving in the morning.

I <3 Bawls mints...so I clicked on pills.
I am so hooked on the Starbucks Mocha Fraps that come in the glass bottles. I get a Venti coffee, black - and then as I drink it, I start mixing in the frap from the bottle. By the time I'm half way done, it has started to get cold. Instead of reheating, I just add ice.

Caffeine messes up my sleep cycle. I usually avoid it, but every now and then I drink a Mountain dew.
caffine is just another one of the many interesting flavours in my universe, that i sometimes combine with other flavours to make even more interesting, and from time to time consume, but find less physically addicting then chocklet, though the two compliment each other nicely.

I try and limit myself to two cups of coffee a day, one in the morning before work and one when I get home, otherwise I find it messes up my blood sugar patterns. But I drink lots of green tea during the day (which does have some caffine content) and coke as well.

Caffeine only if I want massive migraine action, which makes mornings like this where I get less than 6 hours of sleep ridiculously hard.

Ouch. Maybe I should be happy that my migraines are random and rare.

Don't they give concentrated doses of caffeine to people with migraines on the theory that it constricts the blood vessels in the brain? Maybe that's why people don't get better.

Yeah, my migraine medication is the equivalent of about 4 cups of coffee.

I don't like the sugar that goes along with energy drinks. My favorite coffee drink is a hosue coffee with a shot (or two) in it. Black, of course.

1) Coffee Black
2) Soda
3) Espresso or some other coffee house drink
4) Energy drinks
I worked a lot of hours for a lot of years (my 6 years of undergrad and grad school I averaged 60 - 70 hours a week of work outside of school work) so I got used to it
So I was wondering what everyone's preferred caffeine delivery system is and what caffeinated beverage preparation devices you own (I personally have a tea pot with basket for loose teas, a kettle and a french press and am on the hunt for a cheap espresso making device).
soda is my perferred form of caffine. tho I LOVED the ORIGINAL JOLT. All the Sugar and Twice the Caffine! :hail:
then they watered that down to the piss like drink it is today.
EDIT: Yes, I've taken the caffeine pills.
