Idiots Shouldn't Advertise...
THE LOST PLANET

Idiots are indiginous to all continents and virtually all ecosystems that cover our planet. They are all loud and rather vocal but none more so than the American Idiot (Americonus Moronicus). I am constantly amazed at the way this sub-species finds to advertise and broadcast it's existance to the world. I was subjected to viewing two specimens within a few minutes that chose the same medium for broadcasting their lack of intelligence to the world; bumperstickers.
Now I have been known to festoon my various modes of transport with bumperstickers or other images. But I'm pretty picky about what I put up there for the world to read as I travel by. I"ll usually try to keep it clever, intelligent and make some sort of statement about my moral, political or even religious views. I like quotes from great minds but have been known to display the wimsical at times (my mazda has a 'more cowbell' sticker on it as well as an evolutionary progression on skateboards). But I think about what I put on my cars. Some people seem incapable of this.
One individual I witnessed had a bumper sticker that read 'If you can read this thank a teacher...' A nice sentiment we've all seen before and I find nothing wrong with this, except it continued '.... If your reading this in English, thank a soldier. Now I understand the sentiment, but logically, without wandering off into a xenophobic world that somehow holds one language to be somehow better than another or gives some undeserved status to the language of the most numerous and succesful invaders of North America, the damn thing is written in English, how else could I read it. Shouldn't I be thanking the printer?
Then as I was still shaking my head over that, a big 4x4 truck pulls up next to me at the light. He's got the obligatory American flag in one corner of his rear window, a 'Terrorist Hunting Permit' in the other and two stickers on his bumper. One proclaimed 'We're screwed '08' and the other read 'Obama, just as dumb as Jimmy Carter'. Now would that be the same Jimmy Carter who did post graduate work in Nuclear Physics, was senior officer on the pre-commisioning team for our country's second nuclear sub, rose to the office of president of the U.S. in barely 20 years after entering politics (coming from a farming and small business background, without a family history of politics), and (last but not least) won a Nobel fuckin' Peace Prize? That Jimmy Carter? Shit, I'd be honored to be labeled that 'dumb'.
Anyway, I'd love to here about any other moronic displays of unintelligence you've come across.

ah . . . I think you meant backwards and if you were referring to me I don't think that. I've visited America and its not a bad place (hell my grandfather lives there) but It's not the best place in the world by any stretch of the imagination.

Well thats a load off my mind...I always thought you sent them my way.....
Now the real question is....How do i account for all these rednecks?
For all of his intelligence and ability, Jimmy Carter was still a pretty lousy president. Intelligence most definitely doesn't qualify one for solid leadership, although Carter did make some pretty good long-term decisions that are unfortunately overlooked thanks to the 1979 oil crisis and that mess in Iran.
Actually, it's probably insulting to Carter to compare him with Obama...I'd rather have Carter in office than Obama any day of the week.
It's not filled with idiots, we do try to keep them out of the way, where they won't cause too much trouble or pester the neighbors.

Yes the same Jimmy Carter, you know that may be a compliment for Obama he is just as dumb as Carter, he never said the Carter was dumb he said that Obama is just as dumb as Carter (which is what you mentioned). And winning the Nobel Peace Prize doesn't mean you are smart nor does becoming President of the US (look at Bush same goes for having a few degrees after all Bush attended Yale and has a MBA from Harvard Business School), what Carter was poor at was that he was a micro manager and that is why he wasn't that great a President just because you are smart doesn't necessarily mean that you know how to govern.

I don't know why, but there has been an anti-intellectual movement in the US since the beginning. This is not a movement against intelligence, just against certain applications. We pursue education, not as an end in itself, but as a means to an end and we, as a nation, seem to take it only as far is it will support our career ambitions. This leads to a certain glorification of the "common" man - The sense that "you may have a PhD in something, but I'm a high school drop out and I'm as good as you." This attitude is especially bad in celebrities like Tom Cruise (a high school drop-out) and their followers, the inarticulate masses who use bumper stickers and slogans to articulate what sounds good to them whether they understand it or not.

That was in Feb/March 2005, though. Which means that they're only evaluating about half of his presidency, and I think it's generally agreed that his second half has been worse. Plus there's a heavy split along party lines.

Democratic-leaning scholars rated George W. Bush the sixth-worst president of all time, while Republican scholars rated him the sixth-best, giving him a split-decision rating of "average".

This is because people, generally, aren't able or willing to differentiate between an intellectual and a pseudo-intellectual. A pseudo-intellectual is very status conscious and loses no opportunity to demonstrate how wonderful he/she is compared to everyone else (kind of like Scientologists and Dr. Phil comparing themselves to the rest of the world). A real intellectual isn't likely to display it at every opportunity, they're just not that insecure.
The elitism also came about because, for a very long time, only the very wealthy or very connected could afford an education. Things have changed considerably.

So the problem is an inability to differentiate between intelligent people and posers coupled with social memories of a time where education actually did separate one from the common man?

Three horrors await Americans who get behind the wheel of a car for a family road trip this summer: the spiraling price of gas, choruses of "Are we there yet?" and the road rage of fellow drivers.
Divine intervention might be needed for the first two problems, but science has discovered a solution for the third:
Watch out for cars with bumper stickers.
That's the surprising conclusion of a recent study by Colorado State University social psychologist William Szlemko.
The gap between the intellectuals and the masses widens daily. It's being fueled by the current pop culture and media climate.
This I have to agree with, and it pains and ages me to see it. What is being passed off as "music" to kids these days (and I mean kids, not teenagers) makes my stomach churn. I saw a Target commercial the other day that had those freakish Jonas brothers singing "Hello, Goodbye" and I wanted to push the TV ONTO them. And "Hello, Goodbye" is not exactly a towering work of creative genius... I still can't even think about that goddamn Across the Universe musical.

I don't have any bumper stickers on my car, but I am guilty of reading bumper stickers of bad drivers and shouting things at them. Not even clever things. The only one I can remember was a driver who had a bumper sticker that said something like, "Catholics believe every baby has a right to life" or something, at whom I shouted, "Do Catholics believe in using their fucking turn signals??" And the fact that he calls his post a rant does not change the nature of your post. You called him egomaniacal and maladjusted. Petty insults are not the features of a well-thought-out and balanced argument, but rather what you'd expect to find in a tirade.
I disagree.
Proof:
George W. Bush got re-elected.
Therefore, America is full of idiots.

It's called "alternatively gifted".
It would be nice if that were true. But sadly, I have known many people who thoroughly and consistently engage in moronic behaviour without even a tiny glimmer of intelligence.

Again i did not say there is no such thing as a moron. i said that a vast majority of Americans wernt morons and i dont think thats opinion, i think thats a measured intelligence level established by fact. (Literacy and education rates, standard of living etc)
No, what you said was:
Newsflash: There is no American Moron.
I agreee with you that the vast majority of Americans are not morons. However, nothing in THE LOST PLANET's original post said they weren't. He merely said that there are morons in America. He made no mention of ratios.

Wow... I can't believe there can really be someone as intolerable as 1010102. We just don't get people like that in Australia. Hell, anyone can say that Aussies are all morons as long as they do it in a sufficiently humourous way and most of us will laugh and supply them with more arguments.
But you didn't even go that far. You simply said that morons inhabit America and 1010102 acted as if you were bagging out the very foundations of the country itself. He isn't trolling, right? Is that what he is genuinely like?
That's because Aussies are generally a lot laid back than Americans, and if someone wants to pay us out on a humorous level we don't really give a damn, Americans are usually a bit more wound up.

Yeah. A lot people from here get really wound up when it comes to remarks about the country. It's quite silly, really.
Not to mention those that didn't vote at all, yet complain about him being in power.
And, to be fair, some Kerry voters would be idiots too-- voting for Bush isn't necessary to demonstrate stupidity, only sufficient. :D

Hammer is too extreme, a couple years of hard partying and drugs will do it. Plus you'll likely end up dirt poor with a dozen kids.

Nah, I just felt like it. And it was 'intentional'. The second o did not used to be an i.
So how many times did Howard get elected? He got in in 1996 and went out in 2007. How many elections was that?

In this case... I am quite serious. I don't get uptightness and such, especially about something as trivial as imaginary little lines on a map. Don't get me wrong, I like my country well enough, it's a nice place to live, but I don't think it's some sort of shining beacon of light that will bring freedom to a world of darkness or anything.

Four elections he was voted in 1996, 1998 (maybe 1999), 2001 and 2004.
Yes I see I didn't think about that, my brain automatically changed it to an 'i'.
While some people who voted for Howard were idiots those who hate Howard for the sake of hating him, some of whom don't really have an clue why are idiots.
Not to mention all of those idiots who voted for the ALP because they thought Rudd was going to change the world and that because he will sign Kyoto global warming will be stopped.

Yeah OK I don't mind people knocking on my community if it is all in good fun, if they are taking it with a lot of spite and hatred thrown in then that might be a different manner, or I might just give it back to them, if they want to give it they should be able to take it.
