Return of the Old Games
What old games have you been playing recently?
I've just pulled out Activision's BattleZone. Almost forgotten how much fun I'd had with that game. I've been tracking down some mods and even managed to find a copy of the Red Odyssey for download.
So what old games have you been playing lately?

Perfect Dark on the N64. To be honest, with games like that, I won't be buying another console until my N64 finally gives up the ghost.

I just won a game of NetHack yesterday, after playing it a couple of weeks and getting about 100+ characters killed. But I probably won't be playing it much any time soon, since today I'll be getting a bunch of new games (plus that game is ridiculously difficult).

I pulled my copy of Call of Duty 2 out over the weekend. Much better than the hippity-hoppity FPS's I had been playing.

I've been playing an obscene amount of Tetris on my phone.

Since my computer is quite old, I can almost only play older games.
How very fortunate for me then that I enjoy them more than most newer games today.
Also, a small game list, just because:
Escape Velocity Nova
Re-Volt
Nethack
Rage of Mage 2
Civ II-III
Master of Orion II-III
Settlers II
Spacehogs
Solar Winds
Cobra Gunship
Every extend (SGX2)

I bought a (I think) Namco Classic Game cartridge for my PSP - including the Prince of Persia, which I haven't played since I was like 12, Ghosts & Goblins was there as well.
It was rubbish, I can hardly believe I spent my youth with only 'jump' and 'shoot' options.
Majora's Mask. Still don't know how to beat it.... -_-
Reinstalled Warcraft 3 the other night
I am also still playing Medieval 2, although thats not that old
And CoD2 hasn't left my comp since i bought the game

Solar Winds is rather reminiscent of that.
And I guess you could count Escape Velocity Nova as an updated/modern version.

That reminds me of that really old Stronghold game for DOS, the one by Stormfront Studios. That was a great game.

Haven't seen many OLD games passing by in this thread, mainly adolescent ones...
Still got on my PC, the somewhat adults:
Civilization
Colonization
Doom
Wolfenstein
Railroad Tycoon
the oh-lets-call-em-midlifers
Sherlock
Atlantis
Battle Chess
Blockout
Empire
and the getting-a-bit-olders
Bluebush Chess (1984)
Mines (1988)
Aldo (1987)
Test Driver (1987)
So nothing really old, actually... :D
an OLD game, in my life, seeing as how i was born before 'pong', would have to be something like sennit, awari, or maybe checkers and chess.
never was anygood at anything other then assisting in my own defeat at checkers, though i did occasionally beat other wood pushers at chess.
been a while since i've been social enough to know anybody to play, and what i've got on the computer, what i'm interested in, and for me, dedicated game machines would be a total waste, are some three dee makin stuff, autocad and blender, and several train/network sims, bahn, for complex transit networks, and a really amazing 3d railway and world sim called trainz, by some outfit in oz called auran.
creating and exploring are where i find gratification, not impressing any one, even by competing with them, which i find tedius generally anyway.
so i'm much more into simulations i can create in and explore. that and what chance i get occasionally to do so in the 'real' world.

Chess is a good game. The rules are simple, no chance is involved, but the possibilities are huge.
At the beginner level, the more experienced player always wins.
At the intermediate level, wondrous things happen and it really makes the player think.
At the higher and highest levels, it is utterly brutal and no fun at all. Though I wouldn't know for sure, never having been there.
The knack is to care enough that you can find good moves and give your opponent a good game ... but not care so much that winning matters a huge amount in your life. Perhaps so for any game.
It's rather sad, but these days any computer can play at International Master level. Even with free software, a junk computer (pentium or so, the sort which people put in their garbage cans) can beat most chess players, including me.
But I still like a game of chess. A good move is still a good move, until proven otherwise. And both players making what they think are good moves, makes a good game.
Best of all, two well-matched players often achieve a draw, even in the intermediate range. What better result to a good game, than that neither player wins nor loses?

Chewing-gum for the spatial intelligence.
There must be some way to gratify this urge without getting tendonitis in both thumbs. Table-tennis? A refresher course in Geometry? Origami?

I've been playing Bejeweled (technically not an old game)
Worms Reinforcement

Wolfenstein 3D
Monkey Island (1,2, and 3)
and a bit of Doom 1
The Infinite Dunes

Thief is oldish. However I do prefer Deadly Shadows to the rest. One of the few games where I found that the additional graphics helped. Made me feel more immersed in the game - more scared about getting caught.
I been playing a bit of Fallout and Secret of Mana 2.
Betrayal at Krondor.
Also, it hasn't been that long since I completed Champions of Krynn.
DK 64
Chrono Trigger
Thy Dungeonman
Johnny B Goode

You can download it, though you may also have to download an emulator to con your PC into thinking it is a BBC Micro, or whatever machine you used to play it on.
It's a breach of copyright, but I don't think there's anyone left to sue you.

UFO: Enemy Unknown (AKA XCOM: UFO Defense) on my old Amiga 1200. I've also being flicking between TFX, Birds of Prey, Cannon Fodder, also on my A1200.
Oh, and I've also been fighting with Liberation and Diggers on my old Amiga CD32.

Civ IV... not that old, but not totally new. i downloaded quite a few games from the Wii's VC, but haven't played them yet... i get all sentimental and can't bring myself to actually play them :$
and on a totally unrelated note: i hate Guns n Roses. they're on the fucking radio right now. why can't that git sing properly...... heaven's dooor-wa my ass
It's officially abandonware (http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/113/Elite.html)
Except that Abandonware isn't an official status
Elite, on the other hand, is freely distributable because the makers said so (http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/).
edit:
Forgot Fallout 2 from mah previous list - Thrower charcter, nonetheless.

They may not be that old, but I often play Age Of Empires I and II, along with the first Cossacks as well.

My recent picks were:
Monkey Island I
Monkey Island II
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Command and Conquerors
Settlers II
Civilization III
Railroad Tycoon
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
I must admit that I'm in awe at how much can be created with a fistfull of pixels and barrel full of creativity (i.e. Monkey Island II).
Ehy, look behind you! A three-headed monkey! :D

I've been hooked on MOO for the past couple of weeks. If it weren't for the lack of multiplayer, it'd be my favorite of the series.
Oh, and I've also played StarCraft regularly for the past three years.

Master of Olympus: Zeus (expansion pack: Master of Atlantis: Poseidon). I probably play it more than any other video game...actually, these days, it is virtually the only video game I play (though I still do not have much time for it).
"Has anyone seen my spear? how can I be a spear carrier without my spear?"
"The vendor is such a doric."

Transport Tycoon Deluxe (or it's open-source equivalent, Open TTD).
Best micromanagement game. Ever.
And I've been trudging through TLoZ: Link to the Past and Ecco the Dolphin on the Wii VC; those motherfuckers are hard. I can't fathom how I completed them as a kid...
