Worrying

I was talking to a friend just now on MSN, and she is very worried about her exam grade. I've noticed in the past year that more and more people, in my life at least, make themselves sick over worrying, yet I have grown to a level of mental control causing me to not worry like that.

Anyways, the purpose of this thread is two fold:

1) Do you find yourself to be a chronic worrier?

2) If yes, how do you handle it? How does it affect your life? Health? Relationships, etc?

If no, how do you keep yourself from worrying like others?

For me, as I said, I don't worry as much anymore. Why? I read this:
“Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?’” (Luke 12:22-26, NIV)

And it makes sense, at least the part about how worrying doesn't add anything to life. It makes so much more sense NOT to worry about everything, and rather just accept life as it comes to you. Does that make sense to anyone else?

Is this a lead-in to asking me to take a free stress test?

You mean, as in if i were to offer a massage? ;)

And no, i can't worry about things, no matter how fucked up they are. No anxiety of *any* kind is welcome to my intestinal lining, due an ulcer i procured in 7th grade.

Yeah, I am taking his place now...

-develops deep voice- Come here baby. Let me romanticize you.

Every time I think I've had enough
and start heading for the door,
There's a very strange vibration
piercing me right through the core,
It says, "Turn around, you fool, you know you love him more and more."
Tell me why is it so.

Don't wanna let go.
Never can say goodbye.
Boy oo oo baby.
Never can say goodbye. No no no no no oo.
Oh, I never can say goodbye.
Boy oo oo.

I'm too apathetic to care/notice. Why should I worry about worriers when I hardly even worry about my own life?

I probably worry too much. I think that basically never going out because I'm worried that I look awful, that I'll fall over, say something stupid or somehow else embarass myself is worrying a bit too much. Though I am ugly as hell, lack common sense and am always falling over, so its probably rational thinking rather than irrational worrying if I'm totally honest :p

EDIT: On the second question: To deal with the problem: I don't go out. Thats resolves the problem quite well, though has a substantial negative impact on friend numbers, the possibility of having a career or generally succeeding in life. A negligible price to pay.

I'm not prone to worry. My physics teacher in high school taught me that you can find yourself in one of two situations - one where you can affect your outcomes and one where you have no control. If you can do something about your situation then do it and if you can't do anything about it then you have to accept it. Either way, worrying about it contributes nothing.

I don't tend to worry too much. Life is ultimately pointless, so why bother wasting time worrying?

Also, in my limited experience, life gets better or worse, but there's always ways to improve things you don't like.

If you're going to worry, you're going to worry. I don't think you can really decide not to. If you try to force yourself not to, I think you'll just end up worrying about worrying.

Learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

You can. It's called distracting yourself. All you need to do is think about something else.

I think we all worry about exams, I know I did when it was my time.

As to worrying in everyday life, I tend not to. I have a tattoo on my right forearm which is a graphical reminder that 'there are some things I cannot change or affect, so don't worry about what you can do nowt about'.

I usually don't worry too much.

On the other hand, I avoid stressful situations because when I do worry, it can develop into full-blown paranoia and panic. This is one of the limits I recognize on what life decisions I can practically make.

I think Cosmopoles has a good principle there. Worry is like stress, except directed to things one can't do anything about.

Bring it. Champion worrier. I have nights where I worry until all hours on a regular basis. Then, usually around 3 in the morning, I start worrying that I worry too much. Physically sick? Ha! Child's play. Stress migraines are a feature of my life. Strange muscle spasms, too.
And no, it's almost impossible for me to relax. Gotta work a little harder on that, though, hmm?

I guess that depends on what you're worried about. If you're worried about something that might happen tomorrow, then sure. If you're generally prone to worrying, that's not a huge victory in the scheme of things.

*nod* Try the natural ways before turning to drugs. Get exercise (when you're physically tired, your body wants to relax which helps) and maybe yoga, tai-chi or meditation.

Tried all that? Oh well ... sex and drugs and rock-n-roll it is then ;)

If the problem isn't my fault, why worry?
If it is my fault, can I fix it? Yes? Then fix it.
No? Then don't worry about it. Shit's gonna happen anyway.
