Computer Question Involving Sound

So, I'm trying to hook speakers up to my sound card instead of using my USB headset, since my headset has been giving me headaches and tinnitus lately.

Unfortunately I've only been able to get the sound to play out of one speaker(I don't have a cord that can route the two speakers into one cord) so obviously I need it to be mono sound.

But I can't figure out how to get the computer to route both sound channels into one sound channel. Is there a way to do that?

No you cant. You can only go into your audio properties menu (windows) and have it put out to one speaker left or right.

if you want dual channels best bet is to break down and get a new set of stereo speakers.

XD what kinda of speakers you using? And how the hell you manage to hook it up?

Well, they're just normal speakers, with normal audio wires. (You know, white one for the left one, and a red one for the right one.)

Thing is, my sound card is supposed to let me plug multiple speakers into it to do this sort of thing, but it didn't work.

Get the make of sound card you have and find the most recent drivers for it, see if that helps.

If it's not a driver issue, you may have a loose connexion. Do you know how to use a continuity tester? Do you know how to solder?

Well it's not a driver issue, but no, I don't know how to do either one of those things.

Sounds like you have a fancy sound card. Which one do you have?

Also, how many... uh... connections go into the back of each speaker and come out of the computer port. I don't mean cables, but number of contacts on each cable.

I think it's the volume control that has been causing that problem. Sounds like you need to make a trip to Fry's and buy the splitter cable.

The cables are a part of the speaker and only have one connection.

If I just had a Y Splitter...but I can't get one anytime soon.

Not really. The headset doesn't have its own volume control, and I've kept volume to minimal amount required to clearly discern sounds, ect, and it's been doing it anyway. Hell, even the speaker is almost doing it.

What sound card do you have?

edit: disregard that, I've seen your link. What speakers do you have? Are you wanting to get both speakers to work or getting both left and right to play through one speaker? If the latter is the case then if you merely plug it into the green output on the card then it should be playing mono.

Have you remembered the proper sacrifice to appease the machine spirits of the speakers?
If that doesn't fix it up, a couple of hammer blows and a lot of chanting will do the trick.

I did that, but it's not playing mono. (I tested with several different pieces of music.)

I think it's a problem with the speakers rather than the sound card, or not a problem as such, just the way they are built. I'm almost that with sound blaster both channels will be going through the green output if nothing is plugged into the other outputs. What speakers do you have?

Some speakers I found in my house. By Polkaudio if that means anything.
