What is it? To you specifically, which is the best holiday and why?

I'm a big HUGE fan of Thanksgiving (US American). I love it. *hugs Thanksgiving*

I don't really care so much about the celebration or the food, it's my favorite season, and it's family all day long, you get up, the women make desserts, the men make the rest, we all eat together with the fancy dishes....and then after dinner we play board games. I hated my family growing up (I hate them now) but my inlaws are just perfect.......well, they are intimidating, but one day a year they are perfect.

It's almost nearly fall! I'm so excited!

I'm no religious nut, but I absolutely love Christmas, because I get gifts from people, and 'cuz there's usually snow on the ground by that time. :D

The poll really should be multiple choice, as for many people, it may be a combination of those options.

You have to pick one. My thread my rules. Also, you could post what specific combo appeals to you about your specific favorite holiday instead of bitching about the poll.

Earth Day was my fav in grade school, because we got to go to the lake, and see all kinds of exotic animals and such for the day. Best holiday for a kid that loves animals. Now,I would say fourth of July, simply because I like fire works, and good american grilling. :)

You're awesome. It's my fav fall holi-day.
Love Independence Day, too. And All Hallows' Eve.

I'd have to say U.S. Thanksgiving, because of our family traditions and the food. Oh, dear god, the food... for a family of three we spend about six hours cooking enough turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, green bean casserole and pie to keep us in leftovers for a week or more. It's just absolutely divine.

Any holiday when me and all my cousins get together and just hang out.

Talk like a Pirate day is certainly the best.

ARRRGH!

(In reality, I prefer El Día de los Muertos over everything else, even though I'm not Mexican or have a drop of south-of-the-American-boarder blood in me. I find the holiday extremely fascinating.)

Thanksgiving, definitely. There's little expectation, just get together with family, eat until you can't move, talk, watch TV, enjoy each other's company. Hallowe'en is probably second on the list. Independence Day is third.

Christmas and Easter are too commercial.

My favourite holiday is the one that lasts from the end of June until September. Quantity > quality.

Just on a general note, am I the only one that finds Christmas anticlimactic?

I mean, we have 3 months of runup to it, billions spend on things, dozens of parties...and then it comes and goes.

I am indifferent to holidays. Not to say that I don't celebrate on holiday entirely, it's just that comparing a holiday vs a regular weekend I don't see myself celebrating anymore of one than another.

In days like thanksgiving and such, where the family wants to meet up and there's a certain lack of choice in participating, it isn't something I look forward to. Rather be at work than one of those .

I dunno, I like it. For the few hours of present opening it's great, and assuming the presents don't suck, then it can pay off.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was bitching about the poll. :(

I'm going to have to go with the food, followed closely by family, friends, the day off, and family traditions. For specific holidays, it's a toss-up for me between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I like the long secular holiday, i.e. take a month off the McJob during the summer break, and travel. Quantity and quality :)

Christmas and Coptic Christmas are kind of good though, because it mens a lot to some people around me, which is always nice to join in with. It's such a let down they are in winter though, who wants time off in winter FFS? What can you do with that?

i was confused with the poll because over here holiday = vacation, and nothing to do with christmas. and we don't have thanksgiving either. i wanted to vote "going somewhere sunny" :p

but my favourite thing about the christmas break is spending time with family
