i noticed there is not a lot of modern rock that falls under those categories. what about indie rock? also, Sabbath can no longer be called metal. i am a big fan of Black metal, as well as deah metal and thrash. people tend to say "heavy metal" and think this generalized thing, when there really is more to it.
However, my favorite rock band is Jethro Tull.
I don't really listen to genres of rock I listen to bands I like regardless of genre.
On an aside, I could argue that Christian Rock isn't a genre per se. Despite what some people think they don't all sound the same, the only difference between them and "regular" bands is the lyrical content. Besides there are plenty of bands who have members that are Christians but don't play overtly Christian music.
All that said I voted for Christian Rock since my current favorite band is Third Day.

Sabbath can no longer be called metal.
Just because you say so?
Black Sabbath were one of the very first Metal bands. They may sound very different from today's Metal, but virtually all Metal was built on the foundation they created. To say they can "no longer be called Metal" is arrogant, to say the least.

I'm a bit surprised Jello Biafra didn't recommend the Dead Kennedys.
Too obvious, perhaps?
Actually - "Paint it Black" is the exception. I've heard covers, and it's the one Stones track I'll take in the original form. Blame "Tour of Duty".
At a recent Ren-fair I heard a cover done on a harpsichord.
