I'm speechless. It looks absolutely amazing. For those of you who haven't read the Watchmen graphic novel, shame on you. You shouldn't even count as human.

And for those of you who have never read a Joe R Lansdale novel, shame on you too, you shouldn't even count as sub-human! *yawn*:D

I'm torn. The trailer looks good, but some of the things that Zack Snyder has said in the PR suggests to me that even though he really likes the book, he completely missed its point.
I really like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, too, and the movie adaptation was so bad it made me cry.

I read it when it came out originally... and I'll be watching The Watchmen.

Oh yeah, LEG was pathetic. But on the other hand, From Hell and V for Vendetta were so awesome each one gave me a two-hour nerdgasm.

I wouldn't mind nerdgasms so much if they didn't leave such a mess.

I figure it's either going to be really good or a horrible disappointment. I'm hoping for the former, but I'm both excited and nervous about it at the same time.

I refuse to read it on the grounds that said refusal will piss you off and everyone likes enraging fanboys. :fluffle:
I just read Watchmen a bit ago and I'm really, really scratching my head on how they're going to put this to film. Hell, time restraints alone have me worried, but the little subplots and the comic book that takes place inside the story (the pirate one...can't recall its name)...not sure how they're going to fit it all in and expecting to be disappointed at what they decided to drop.
Though, from the previews....every single scene they showed is lifted right out of the graphic novel, as far as I can tell.

The trailer looks awesome... and "300" was well worth it. I'll be seeing it.

I think I read somewhere that they filmed the pirate story and that it will be an extra on the DVD. Or something like that.

Ah, awesome. The pirate story was just too sweet to completely drop.

When Terry Gilliam bought the rights to this and was talking about making it in the mid-90s, I despaired that it would be as awful as Roger Corman's 1994 version of the Fantastic Four (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109770/). Filming something that had to be done mostly in CGI using 1994 tech would have killed the francise, IMHO.
I'm looking forward to this. It looks like they've been incredibly faithful to Nite Owl II, who happens to be my favorite character. Though it looks like the actor may not have that characteristic middle-aged paunch, which is key to the character.
The pirate story wasn't some add-on - it was allegory and essential to the plotline. I must admit that slipping it into the film would be difficult.
We'll see.

Nite Owl (2) looks a lot like Batman, kind of. I mean, if you get a good look at him you realize they look nothing alike aside from a dark costume.

Well, I don't think anything can be that bad.

No, he had owl-ear thingies on. Although Nite Owl does bear a passing resemblance to Batman, they really are separate characters.

He looks like an older, fatter, and nerdier version of Batman.
It can be very, very good, or very, very bad!
I'll be watching it, and I'll be praying to avoid disappointment!

He looks like an older, fatter, and nerdier version of Batman.
That's basically it. He's a rather awkward nerd who's gone a bit out of shape since he retired from superheroics, but he is a true genius and genuinely dedicated to helping people. He and Silk Spectre are the only two characters who don't represent any school of philosophy, the only two characters who don't have questionable ethics, and the only two characters who get a happy ending.
I don't know. Based on that trailer, I can't help but think that the director has completely missed the point.
My prediction: it'll either remove all the essential plot and structure that makes The Watchmen such a classic, and turn it into a mindless action movie (which will be adored by idiots, and spurned by anyone who ever read the damn novel); or, it'll stay absolutely true to the comic, will be a four-hour long epic, and will ultimately be a commercial flop.
I can't help but think that The Watchmen can not be made into a movie. It just... can't.
But I want to be proven wrong.

Huh? Silk Specter was an admitted sellout. In fact, it is early established and completely accepted that she only went into the hero business for commercial gain. Silk Specter 2 isn't really much better. I'd say her ethics are most definitely questionable.
But, yea, Nite Owl 2 represents the pure super"hero" and Dr. Manhattan represents the pure "super"hero, in my interpretation. Of all the characters, Nite Owl 2 is definitely the most heroic. Plus...he has a fucking zeppelin owl-mobile, or something very similar.

I disagree about Silk Spectre. The second one, at least. She never wanted to be a superhero, remember. Her mother pressured her into it. But since she's in a situation she doesn't want to be in, she tries to do the best by her own conscience. Remember, it was her who convinced Dr. Manhattan that human life matters.
Ozymandius was always my favourite character. He's just so calm and unruffled. He never lets things get to him. Plus... he has a fucking mutant catmonster. And also, he can catch bullets.
That is hilarious. Thanks for the link.
You're welcome.
I will not be watching Watchmen in theaters. I may rent a copy but I don't expect much.
I didn't like 300 either. The comic and the film.
That this trailer is on Blunty's channel is even worse. I hate internet celebretards.
