What have you all been doing lately? A quick update would be appreciated!
This summer I:
took my kids to a music festival/camp-out
camped in the pouring rain for a week
went to a pow-wow (only one so far, sad)
got divorced, moved, am loving new apartment
fell in love, planning a move to Montreal
Unfortunately, completing my 3 credit research paper on time is not going to make that list of 'dones'. Shit.
Well....my father had a heart attack, and, probably a stroke a few days ago.
That count?

Finally got the degree I've been working toward (and should have finished half a lifetime ago), and am now looking for a job and an apartment with absolutely no success yet.
What's your thesis on? Loosely, if you don't want to divulge too much.
Molecules in asymptotic giant branch stars (in a sentence).
Basically I've been writing a program to generate a bunch of model line lists for a large number of molecules so they can be quickly compared to bands in the infrared spectra of highly evolved stars which haven't been associated with a particular molecule yet.
Also, I hope your drive is revivable.
Oh no, it's toast. Fortunately I do most of my work work on my desktop in my office (I do some work on the laptop, but it usually gets transfered back over to the desktop) and I've only had that computer since January, so I'm mostly out a lot of pictures (which sucks), some presentations, a rough draft of a poster and the fact that I installed gentoo which was a pain to install and took like two days of solid work which I get to redo once apple returns my computer.
whats up with law school?
One more year to go, funding has been a bitch, still working on it. I'm probably going to have to do an extra year in Montreal since Quebec is the only civil law jurisdiction in Canada, and my degree is only good in the rest of the common-law provinces/territories. Bonus is then I'd have a common-law/civil-law degree which few lawyers in Canada do.
Sucks having no one to support us in the meantime, but not being stuck with jerkface is still better.

I started an exercise program to get my lard ass into shape, and I've lost nigh 15 pounds in a month. Most of it is probably water, but 15 pounds is 15 pounds.

Yeah, portion control and exercise were my problems. I was eating the right things, but I was eating way, way too much of it. Now, I measure my caloric intake much more. I pay alot more attention to serving size when I'm buying things at the store. But I still get hungry occasionally. i found that a few bites of nonfat, 80 calorie per half cup cottage cheese tackles any lingering hunger.
I also bought a bike and I ride about 2 miles to and from class every day. I also am pumping iron 3 times a week. I feel so much better now that I'm active.

Right now, the wife and kids are in Pennsylvania visiting her parents for a week.
I've been mostly working, practicing my new summer clowning skill(expanding my magic routine) and landscaping. We're in an area of tall scrawny young trees and I have been busy thinning them and replanting new ones and evergreens so they'll grow wider and provide more shade. In addition, this property used to be adjacent to an old junkyard so I'm finding ancient glass bottles and metal cans gone almost completely to rust. It's a lot of work clearing that crap out.
I'm also making preparations for the Mud Bowl Championships 2009. I wouldn't miss it. :)

I graduated and wrote lots of applications for internships with various investment banks. GS actually flew me down to Sydney the other day to meet a few people and do a second interview. Then the HR lady called me to say that yesterday they didn't have time to all get together and decide and that she'd call again today. She hasn't and I assume that means I didn't get the position, so now I'm quite unhappy and come up with one reason after another why I'm not good enough. :(

I might do it on Monday. As it is I think my main problem was being too slow to grasp that they didn't have any currency trading at all in Sydney, since it's all done in Singapore, HK and Tokyo. So me presenting myself particularly in the direction of trading didn't help when they really wanted someone in sales (ie talking to the various hedge funds and corporate clients as the connection between them and the actual trading desks).
Hell, I'm not entirely sure I'd want to work in sales...the bad thing about it is the hurt pride of another person having been selected. And obviously that working for GS would have been an incredibly sweet deal.
Anyways, I've still got another line running, I'm going for psychometric assessment for a risk management internship with another high profile bank. And that would be anything but boring these days.

I went on a 23 day trip to Europe in June. I went to orientation for USF late in July and got my schedule for the fall semester. Yesterday I went to a cardiologist and they did an echo because my EKG was abnormal and I've been dizzy a lot lately and my brother has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, mitral valve prolapse, and a dilated aorta. Tomorrow I'm going with my family on a trip to Disney Quest and Cypress Gardens. My parents' 25th anniversary is coming up. I'm moving out to live in an apartment on campus at USF on August 20.

I quit my job recently. Tis a great a feeling. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially the feeling when your boss goes "Now, I know you're leaving, but will you try not to tell people you're going to get the work done by X date.... especially with that grin of 'knowing' on your face? It'd be nice, thanks."
Then I'm going to Miami for two weeks.
Then moving to Edinburgh to complete an LLM in International Law.

I'm sure it ranks up there with your boss telling you to hand in your keys and have you escorted from the building, declaring that you're not to set foot on the property again - a week after you've given your two week notice.
I enjoyed it at least. It meant one more week of vacation time. And an extra feeling of enjoyment when I later dragged him to court and gave him a thorough legal smackdown! ;)

Due to epic stupidity, mainly on my part, though many others deserve a dishonourable mention, I am stuck on university campus over the holidays for about a month. No-one else I know is here, there's no work available, and my bank balance is heading in an irritating downwards direction, so I'm more or less not eating in order to save money. Win.

I felt quite bad that my roommate (yeah, I had to share a room in halls, lucky me) went to all the classes, and did hours of work every day all year and she only averaged 54%. I went to no classes after Christmas, and spent most evenings going to a club, a party, just sitting with a few people having a drink, or stoned. She wasn't pleased when I rang her to tell her my results.

My mantra is, and I'm famous for it..."I don't give a fuck". I've managed a high B average with the absolute minimum amount of work, while others literally seem to be killing themselves with studying. I honestly think too much studying is counterproductive.

Well, unfortunately, it was not the fun kind of standing on street corners wondering where I was going to sleep. It was the oh crap, what have I gotten myself into, I had an apartment at one point kind of standing on street corners wondering where I was going to sleep. I'm slightly more settled than that now, and if I can make if until August 22, then I definitely have housing until next May. Until then? Couch-jumping.
It's either that or I incapacitate my roommate, as he is the one who made this apartment so miserable I left.

Last week I stood on a street corner wondering where I was going to sleep. It's more than a little sobering, really makes you take a good long look at your life.Been there a few times, one time in Portland, one time in Seattle, one time in Anchorage ... a few other times in other cities. Loved it.
Was 14 ....now it is 16......what is to test?
/facepalm
....
You're banging a 16 year old?No, but I had the oppertunity.
But in all seriousness, I ended up backing out of my "sell my soul to the oil companies for a shitload" at the end of which would have resulted in me driving either a (2000-2003) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution or a (1990-1993) Nissan Skyline GT-R and having all my regularly occuring expenses paid to fuck around with my friends and work my grocery store job, which I have come to find out has a surprisingly high /b/tard rate (about 5 of the 20 people in my class are /b/tards).
I guess it is true what they say: money doesn't buy happiness. Poverty does. Well not poverty, but I was paid 5 days ago and have less then $20 to spend. Notheless, life is sweet.
I found out that last semester I failed my first class even though I had one of the top marks on both midterms for that class (ie I really bombed the midterm), which dragged my gpa down to low to transfer departments this year :/ (I really should of tried for that at the end of last semester...). I guess I am going to try to kill myself this semester to drag it back up, because I think I went as far as I could with the whole just wing it approach to school.
As for who I am banging, hopefully a 17 year old before school starts. Which would still be testing people as most think it is either 18, or "none of the cock sucking governments damn fucking business".

Still continue job search.

I hear that Navy basic training is pretty easy, all things considered. I have a good friend thats a Corpsman with the 2nd Marines in Iraq right now, and he definitely gave the impression that it wasn't bad at all.

Yes. Except I'm a fat North Carolinan in my late 30s, penised, living in my grandmother's basement. My keyboard is stained with cheetos.
Well, I learned that due to the paperwork SNAFU that kept me out of BCT this summer, I get to do all thirteen weeks of BCT and AIT in one go a week after I graduate.
Which I really wouldn't mind, except it means I can't go to college the year after I graduate. Joy. I'm going to go active duty for a year and help out my unit as they get back from Iraq (they get back a month or so after I finish my training), and then go to Valley Forge Military College the year after.
Recently, I've just been spending time with my girlfriend and doing my drill weekends with the NG.:)
