NS > CN

Cybernations is full of pompous assholes that pretend to be "supreme grand emperor of [insert clan here]" and they are all warmongers. I had a 7k nation but it got bombed to bits during the third great war. :(

What do you have to do to get banned from CN?

Cybernations is a better game. It's what NS2 should have been years ago. I haven't been on the CN forums much, so I can't really judge the difference, but as I know it now, NS forums are better.

Speaking strictly to the game mechanics:
NS is a fairly simple political sim that does a good job of at what it's supposed to do. It doesn't do much, but it does it well.
CN is a moderately complex version of a simple wargame, disguised as a political sim, that manages to do an OK job at what it actually does. It does a lot, but not so well, and not what it's claims to do.

Looking at the aesthetics/accuracy:
NS wins hands down for this. One example: Kevin's recent addition of navy turns the ranking of ships on it's head - WTF did he make destroyers twice as powerful as battleships.

Speaking more broadly to the culture and communities the games attaract:
In the overall community and culture, NS is superior. But the subcommunities (regions/alliance) are about equal - some are good and some are bad.

I'd give NS the slight edge.

Are you kidding? If NS2 turned into CN and people had the option to bomb others into oblivion, we'd have a pretty big grudgefest cooking up fairly quickly.

NS... it doesn't try to be more than it is. I enjoyed Cybernations for a little while, but it got old faster than NS.

CN is a more complicated game. There's a lot more in-game stuff than NS. OTOH, sometimes simple is good. Most of the good stuff in NS was created by the players imaginations. And in NS, I don't have to worry about some n00b blowing me to ZI (zero infrastructure) while I'm at work. Overall, I prefer NS.

I quit CN after a group of Nazi oriented nations went around and started picking on unaligned people much smaller than they, eliminating months of building up my nation, and one of them justified that by calling me a "Jew faggot". The moderators didn't act and I couldn't be stuffed starting over. :)

As far as games go, I'd say Cybernations is a bit more engaging. Of course, the big thing about NS is not the game itself but the ridiculously large amount of players and the forums and roleplaying. CN has lots of players too, but that's about it.

It does. It makes your citizens hate you and not want to work in the economy so you collect less taxes. :D

cybernations suxxx. NS is better because:

there's more going on
it's creatively more engaging
it has a better sense of community
there's a greater diversity of people playing
you can play and fully enjoy the game without ever utilising war

don't see why anyone would build up a nation knowing that it could be destroyed months in, seems a waste of time

It's rooted in the core gaming engine and it's intended results.

Note that both are intended to produce a revenue stream.

Max's gaming engine (NS) was intended to produce odd political systems, advertising his book featuring an odd socio-political system (Jennifer Government), thus generating sales and $$$.

Kevin's (CN) was intended to produce a wars, inducing nations to gain military advantages by making donations for in game bonuses, and thus producing $$$.

Earth 2025 definately did the spys and trading better. SimNation made the micro-management of CN look simple.

And the myriad imitators managed to tweak various good and bad points.

Nationstates is rigid. You survive wars by default unless you are inactive for 28 or 60 days.

BTW, The Plutonian Empire, what does the 'banned' page look like?

Your thread was an advertisement. This is a discussion. While this thread is somewhat close to the edge, yours was right over.

Jolt/OMAC doesn't permit unpaid advertisements of competing games. Can't say as I blame them.

Or endless curbstomps, or having your nation crushed for not posting in the forums the right way :p.

cybernations doesn't have a peace mode? can't figure that everyone wants to join in the wars after all...

It ends up tanking the economy. Any smallish nation wouldn't be able to pay their upkeep due to small income, leaving only the large nations able to even grow (though very slowly) in peace mode.

The only way to survive in CN is by joining a large alliance. Typically, the larger alliances look down on the Nazis, as was shown in a recent war that blew the last Nazi stronghold into nothingness.
