Maybe the parents should leave their kids at Hooters. The supervision is obviously better.

Well, at least the kid knows how to look both ways. That's a start. I'm amazed that this kid had the balls to do this. Sure he was naughty for sneaking out but, really, considering what else we hear about, this is refreshing.

Kudos to the Hooter's manager for being conscientious about the well being of a child.

According to inspection records, the daycare, called The Imagination Station, has been cited eight times since 2003. Two of the citations have been for improper supervision. The boy, who has not since returned to the daycare, also managed to stop at a local gas station for a drink and some snacks before completing the half-mile trek to Hooters.
...

I'm shocked. I don't know what to say...

Of course. The manager probably figured having a kid around for a while would reinforce to his employees exactly what kind of behavior will have them out of job. "See this? It's a kid. Like your job? Don't have one."

It's probably just bad enough at the daycare that he was escaping for his life......or he was bored.

As far as the article, yes, they have coloring pages at Hooters, it's what the children's menu is printed on.

That reminds of a story I heard about a baby at Hooters looking at one of the waitstaff and thinking "mm, dinner."

Even if you weren't, it's still hilarious! :D

I'd go with the latter. Ie: BORED.

Hey, I'm from Denton Tx. I would have tried to sneak out of the daycare too, I hated daycares.

Someone have an impartial article? That one screams bias and hyperbole.

Sounds, though, like the kid was just bored. According to my parents, out of boredom I used to go exploring all over the place all the time, and even walked a half mile to the high school behind where we lived at the time. (I was, in fact, the main reason they built the huge fence that's still there today. That, and middle and high school students kept going in our back yard, which we didn't want.)

meanwhile, what is also missed by others...

this child walked 1/2 mile stopped at a gas station for snacks and continued on... and only the manager at HOOTERS noticed the chid and took him into the resturant?!?

the daycare isn't the only one guilty of not paying attention. :$

Thank you. I need to read more closely, apparently.

JuNii: That's why I said it was full of hyperbole, because I wouldn't think that to be possible. In order for the kid to get snacks he'd have to etiher pay for them or steal them, and both would be noticed.

...except that according to the impartial article that's not hyperbole, and he purchased the snacks. Weird.

Whatever the case may be, people need to pay more attention to kids.

thats why you put your 5 year old in daycare. so he wont wander around town crossing busy streets by himself.

wandering off is a significant problem with 5 year olds. it can happen no matter where you place your child--even if you keep him at home instead of putting him in day care.

a professional daycare should have a system in place to keep it from happening.

There was a story here in AZ not too long ago where a Hooter's worker forgot to take her baby to daycare, and the kid died while left outside in the car. AZ summers are not kid friendly.

So it seems ironic that the resteraunt is getting good publicity for helping one.
