Okay, so I got my first speeding ticket in the 5 1/2 years I've been driving.

What do they do in traffic school? Please spill, so I am prepared for it.

They basically teach you safe driving...

Come on. For 6 hours?

Driver's ed didn't even have that much classtime in it.

They physically beat you for 4 hours.

They physically beat you for 4 hours.

And then they spend the next 2 hours teaching you how to drive safely...

I was trying not to scare the guy.

how did you get sent to traffic school on your first ticket:confused:

They physically beat you for 4 hours.

more or less this, only you also have a guy who loves his job telling you of how much of a monster you are

I don't know, I just paid my ticket. I figured I'd take the chances of getting another (knock on wood) rather than sit through that dreck.

If you go to traffic school, it goes off your record completely. Squeeky cleen driving record.

but you only get the option once every two years here in the USA.

Also, I'm a girl ... :(

Beatings? Sounds mildly promising.

A woman! I've never seen one of them before...

All kidding aside I have a tendancy to think of people of gender nuetral online and I use guy as a collective term. Appologise if that was a problem.

They probably force you to watch footage of incredibly gruesome traffic accidents during the beatings. A lot like in A Clockwork Orange, but with less rape.

You are forgiven if this was your reason. Looking at my location, it would confuse me why I'd be refered to as a guy ... lol ...

Yay! GIRLS ROCK!!!

Eeeew. I hope we are allowed to sleep a bit. It's at a church though. Can they show stuff like that in a church?

Well actually, I starred in one of those videos. Guess my role...

EXCUSE ME? You've been driving for 5 1/2 without ever having been to a driving school? 5 1/2 driving without a licence and all you get is just a speeding ticket? :eek2::eek2::eek2:

Driver's Ed is way different than traffic school. Traffic school is where you go when you get a ticket, to either make it go away or because the courts make you go.

I've had a licence. I promise! :D

Well if I had a dime for every time I looked at location I'd have about 60 cents.

Wow.

Do it about 47 more times, and you get a soda at Quicktrip.

I could buy one at almost any of the stop and robs around here if I did it 4 more times :).

Oh. I see. Sorry...
Thing is, that here we have "scuola guida" (driving school), which serves for both purposes; you have to go to scuola guida to take a license, and back again to scuola guida if you take too many tickets.

Driver's ed didn't even have that much classtime in it.

Where'd ya'll take Driver's Ed where they did so little classroom time? Back in Texas, it was 6 hours of classroom time you could get the learners permit, and something like 30 hours of classroom time for the course. (According to the TX DPS site, it's 32 hours of classroom, 7 hours sim driving, and 7 hours real driving.)

Arizona, where we studied the manual for about 4 hours, took the permit test, did our 30 hours of driving with an instructor (all real), then took the driving test all in one week.

Driver's Ed isn't even required here for a permit or a license, you just have to have taken a 4 hour course on drugs and alcohol and be able to pass a test on signs and a test on road rules and road signs to get your permit and have a certain amount of driving time with your parents and be able to pass a driving test to get your permit.

I took driver's ed over the summer anyway, since it's not offered at schools around here during the school year, because I wasn't very confident starting out driving and I needed that. It was about a week or a few days of classroom time (I can't remember exactly how long, the classroom part is the easy part, driving is the hard part for me) and a week of driving. I know it really helped me, as did practicing with my dad all those days so I could pass the driving test at driver's ed instead of having to go a long way to the DMV to take it (there's a tax collector's office a few minutes away that can give out licenses if you've already passed the test but can't give the test, that's a lot more convenient than going all the way to the DMV a while away and waiting for a while not even knowing if you're going to be able to pass it).

So I'm glad that I took driver's ed, and my parents are going to have my brothers take it next summer, too (they just got their learner's permits), but it's not required here and not only offered to a certain extent, as there is limited space that fills up fairly quickly.

It's mind-numbingly boring -- the same 6 hour class they make you take to get the safe driving discount on your insurance.

They make you watch some videos, they tell you about defensive driving, and let you go with your certificate.

Even they know it's killer, and often will try to let you go a little early. If not, just nod.

I just had to watch a 45 minute video. I have state Farm. They did it at their office.

I have the sad, unfortunate idiocy to be speeding through a construction, though. So even though I go to this driving school, I still have to show up at my court date. The lady on the phone said there wouldn't be more fees, and couldn't give me a good reason why. (curses freeway expansion and all cops on the roads at 4:45 AM)

I won't speed again. Ever.

Let's see. Here in NJ, I took a Driver's Ed course for about 2 weeks after school for 2-3 hrs. Then, although you are supposed to have 6 hrs with an instructor, the certified one at my school took me out for like 2 and then went to get the permit. I also went with him to get my actual license, because the school Driver's Ed car has a special brake on the passenger side.

It isn't offered much here. I am in a much more rural part of AZ. Like, just last week we FINALLY got pizza delivery to where I live. I've not had it delivered before.
