What's your favorite cartoon?

I'm kinda springboarding from this thread:
http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=561624

Some people thought it was about the show King of the Hill, and I would like to know what anyone thinks of it, or any other animated show, old or new. (I'm bored by the way.)

I like Family Guy, no matter how stupid and irrelavent it is.

The Simpsons, its funny, clever and and dosent imo try to hard.

Oough, that's a toughie.

As I said in the thread you linked to, King of the Hill is one of my favourite US cartoons, though Freak Show and Batman: The Animated Series are both up there.

If you're including claymation, Wallace & Gromit and Rex the Runt have to get a mention, while in the anime department (to open a nasty can o' worms...) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo and Samurai 7 (see a pattern emerging?) all kick ass.

But hey, now I've mentioned anime, this thread is doomed.

The original Looney Toons from the '30s to the '50s are my favorite cartoons.

The Simpsons and Family Guy and all those are more what I'd call animated sitcoms, even if they're cartoons. Among those, The Simpsons are the original and the best. I don't even understand the more recent Family Guy episodes - they seem to be consciously trying to go for the easy punchline as much as possible. Not so good.

Wow, I didn't actually expect replies... thanks!

And on the anime thing, oh dear god! what have you done! We're doomed I tell you, doomed!

It doesn't get any better than the silent Felix in my book, but the later efforts are pretty good too. :)

Yeah, I've got a fondness for that particular Felix cartoon, and also this gem:

Felix in Astronomeous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei-4mPTsQGA&feature=related).

I watched both to death as a child (those hammer-things gave me nightmares!) on an old Felix video tape. I hadn't actually seen the really old silent ones till very recently.

Any list I make will have glaring omissions. So here's a list with glaring omissions-

Simpsons, Looney Tunes (particularly Chuck Jones), Tex Avery cartoons, Venture Brothers, Lucy Daughter of the Devil, Home Movies, the guy who does Wallace and Gromet whose name I forgot and don't feel like looking up but there hasn't been a thing he's done that I don't like, Ralph Bakshi, Ren & Stimpy, Justice League...I don't know...more.

Nick Park.

A wonderful man.

Ralph Bakshi
*applauds*

Still my favourite adaptation of LotR; albeit only the first book.

Ren & Stimpy
Oh, god yes!

EDIT: And I've got to add my love for the middle-era Hanna-Barbera Tom and Jerry toons.

South Park and Futurama. Family Guy and Simpsons too, though just a tad less.
Drawn Together as well.

That's a great one! The spirit of the original Otto Messmer-directed Felix is as good as it gets. We had those playing on an endless loop when I was a kid too, on 16mm film as I recall. :)

Not exactly a cartoon, i guess, but Moral Orel.
And the "Silent Bob" run on Liquid Television.
Pink Panther and Underdog, back in the (Wednes)day.
The Tick. Duckman.

Just about everything else got mentioned.

Comics cartoons? Tundra, Bloom County, Doonesbury, Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Groo The Wanderer, Dilbert .... at least, my library reflects as much.

The Simpsons died right before I entered college, I'd say. And that was late 2001. I've caught bits of the current ones here and there, and it's just incredibly painful to watch.

Thundercats! My favorite from 3-5. That's right, you emo little bastards, I'm actually old enough to have WATCHED Thundercats, so you take that Liono shirt off right now and apologize.

Tiny Toons
Clone High (MTV cancels everything I like)
Daria (good one, ASD)
Looney Toons, but especially roadrunner and coyote
Darkwing Duck, Tailspin

Fear not, the Simpsons is slowly recovering from its Dark Age. Last season wasn't too terrible.

Oh God yes! I loved it when they had the Scooby Dooby Gang on it. Except Freddy was a controlling bastard, Velma was a radical feminist who wanted to get into Daphne pants. Daphne was a strung out chick who wanted to go home. Shaggy was a drug addict and Scooby was basically the dog from the Son of Sam.

My favorite children friendly cartoon is South Park. Simpsons and Family Guy are awesome too, except Family Guy is much more offensive than South Park (at least the later has a good educational point about Catholics/religion).

At its height, South Park, closely followed by Simpsons. Now, nothing really. I have several I watch still, but none I really like that much. I have some hopes for the Clone Wars cartoon, but not much.

Truth be told, there's very little good TV at all these days.

The work of Bob Clampett, Tex Avery and early Chuck Jones (through about Grinch, including The Phantom Tollbooth).

Modern US? The Venture Brothers, the short-lived Clerks animated series, the occasional Family Guy or South Park and most of Futurama and Robot Chicken.

Big fan of Cowboy Bebop, if we're talking Japanese.
