Why is everyone's name so big, like, "Snafturi" next to their post?

Jolt is trying to make up for four years of ignoring its users entirely by introducing more new features than they actually wanted in the first place.

I don't know...Maybe everyone is starting to lose their sight from constantly reading NSG...

Hmm. There doesn't seem much point in doing that. It wasn't difficult to read as it was. I am incredulous that people fiddle around like this when theres no need. I don't think this is change I can believe in.

From what i've experienced so far any "improvements" by jolt seem to have the modest intention of keeping this forum from grinding to a complete halt :D

It's just so annoying. Why can't they just go back to ignoring us instead of bombarding us with these asinine changes that are pointless? They should have left the layout alone and focused on keeping decent servers that won't crap out when NSG goes into post-whore mode.

Looks like making a shorter name would be appropriate. :(

First they tried messing with the fonts.

Then they replaced the crappy smileys with crappier smileys.

Now they decided to boost usernames from 10-point to 10,000-point.

Why the hell can't they just leave the message board the way it was when jolt ran it?

They're probably testing some stuff out, to see what reactions it gets. Imo, we can expect a significant change once NS2 goes live.

Also, I imagine the changes are server-wide, not just for NS:G. Folks on here may well be in the minority in their dislike for the changes, compared with other Jolt forums.

I have no problems with larger user names. I wish to god they would address problems some of us have with logging on, though. At certain times I can't even get to Jolt, never mind NSG; instead I get some stupid message about not being able to "find the page you're looking for."

This makes me glad I have a small name for my nation. :)

I actually have a problem with the large usernames, because I've been trying out lately a tactic to avoid pre-bias when I read posts, so I avoid reading the username.

EDIT: My name looks very tidy with this font, the hanging 'g' and rising 't' nicely break up the flatness of the rest, in my humble opinion.

The ad does take the biscuit, it's also bad for business in a few ways.

First, it's a sponsored link so I wonder if it's affiliate advertising. Anyway, there'll be plenty of mistaken clicks on that link and it's going to both annoy the user while messing with tracking stats.

Online advertising is fine where it's relevant to the user, shoving it in the face is just a mistake.

We also have the most threads at 218,766 and the most posts at 7,440,876 with most of those threads and posts probably located in the abyss that is NSG.

As for the changes, I'm still pissed at them for messing with the public profile page. When I get over that I'll let you know how I feel about the rest of the changes.

Other, non-NS people have avatars. Lain once said you get to alter the title under your name after 10K and get an av after 20k unless you give jolt monies. She had an av. I think we came to the conclusion that this feature was turned off for NationStates folks.

There's no way to confirm or deny this however, since Spam is long gone and the uber-thread along with it.

I like this new and intersting friends feature. I can spam people for hours.

They're all .org sites - not that this means anything aside from the fact that they seem to be unaware that the average age here is, at most, 21, so foreclosure ads and the like are hardly going to generate much interest.

I quite like the new written font, I'm even on the smilies, I actually okay with the name size font and I don't even mind ads...but the placement of these is simply appalling, whether you're an advertiser, from a design perspective and simply from usability.

If you click on people's names you can add them as friends, have it be more than a random list, and leave messages for them. You can also click on your own name and see who's left messages for you and who's viewed your page.

Seems the ads are different per user - my profile seems to imply that I'm likely to foreclose on my mortgage, probably been abusing my kids, though they also ask that I adopt another, and I should be welcoming Vets home.

Looks like user names are back to normal. Now they need to get rid of the ads in the middle. They really annoy me and disincline me to buy or respond to anything they sell.
