More proof that public opinion is worth jack shit in Washington.

Thoughts?

That's not what the poll says.

"A new WorldPublicOpinion.org poll of 18 countries finds that in 14 of them people mostly say their government should not take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Just three countries favor taking the Palestinian side (Egypt, Iran, and Turkey) and one is divided (India). No country favors taking Israel's side, including the United States, where 71 percent favor taking neither side."

However, poll results consistently show that far more Americans sympathize with and support Israel than sympathize with and support the Palestinians--majorities, I'm pretty sure. And when it comes to particular Israeli actions, you generally get similar results.

I say take neither side, but that's not saying I don't support one side or the other.

Well that's nice. Good job, 71% of respondents, I suppose.

In Washington, not only is expressing sympathy for the Palestinians a kiss of death for your political career, it's also grounds for Homeland Security to drag your ass to Guantanamo.

Support for that statement?

Homeland Security and Guantanamo are abominations against everything America is supposed to represent, but I doubt politicians would be hauled away for "expressing sympathy for" Palestine. Some guy on the street, maybe(especially if he looked Muslim).

Ditto. I support Palestine, and I haven't been dragged away. Yet...

That was just a social commentary. If it was somehow a fact I'd back it up with a link definitely.

Maybe most people don't give a shit about Israel and Palestine, but the Jewish lobby certainly does.

Good, that's how it should be. The last thing that conflict needs is an outsider country egging one side on so that more atrocities end up being committed.
