Well? Is this a good thing, or should they have let sleeping dogs lie, as it were? Do you believe he'll be convicted? Will it matter? And how will Serbians react to this news?
I think it's a good thing. I think it's important to get him before a court, regardless of the resulting verdict.

It's a good thing.
We will, however, be subjected to the same level of farce and theater that we saw with Milosevic.
When a guy is as guilty as he is, it would be better to have tried him in absentia in advance, and have him summarily shot when he's finally captured.

'Cept now he'll be held accountable and not made into a martyr.

Doing it your way, he gets to play circus freak for a few years, and in the eyes of his people, make a laughingstock of the court.
I'd rather do it the other way around. He might be a martyr, but they'll know the court means business.

Milosevic didn't make a laughing stock of the court.
He made a laughing stock of himself. Same will happen here.

however that would be un-European and we will have to get all pissy with Serbia (I bet we could do some bitching with Russia if it comes to it *shakes man-bag in threatening manner*)

I doubt if the Serbs will be impressed by a four year trial followed by a life sentence.

Just imagine, if he had been orchestrating the ethnic cleansing of Muslims this day and age, he'd have been called one of the best soldiers in the "War on Terror".

No, he wouldn't.
Anyway, I thought he was basically untouchable. Good job, whoever turned him in.

I do wonder why it took so long to find him. Perhaps this would be a good time for the US to change its stance on the Hague Tribunal.

They knew fuckin rightly. They just didn't want to get him.

Well now that the malign influence of Jesse Helms has gone, it would be a useful step to repair the US image abroad.
Sorry if I sound offensive, but Serbian people I find generally distasteful, why is it that they always seem to be acting like rabid frothing-at-the-mouth nationalists who like to shrine genocidal thugs?
I think you know a country is bad when the word 'Chetnik' (see Nazi-collaborating genocidal thugs) is generally a positive term.

To what? Granted, they occasionally mutter under their breath that it's too slow (and maybe it is, compared to the relative speed the Nuremberg trials went for example), but that's about it.
You're thinking of another court, the International Criminal Court, which, confusingly, is also based in Den Haag along with the International Court of Justice. But those are different.
The Hague Tribunal was set up to take care of the cases that relate to the Balkan Wars during that period, nothing more and nothing less. The ICJ exists for countries to sue each other, but it's not really a criminal court where you can prosecute individuals. The ICC is the new idea that should make things like the Hague Tribunal unnecessary in the future, but it's constrained by who signs up and because it can't handle any cases from before it was started.

Hmm... what's Serb for "Feck Off"?
Well now that the malign influence of Jesse Helms has gone, it would be a useful step to repair the US image abroad.
If it was just the one oul bollocks they had to worry about, they'd be lucky.
It also seems we got our courts confused.

Well I think "Jebo ti" is "fuck you".

And when the UN Security Council designated it cases. Like Sudan/Darfur.
