If so, who says what you wanted to say? (so we can beat them with a wet noodle of course)
I see you, and NSG neeeeeeeds new people, so post! :)
Hi. I'm a lurker. :P
- I'm a guy from America.
- I lurk because It's hard to integrate into this forum without spamming your arse off.
- I've been lurking for a few years.
- I lurk every damn day. :(
- Yeah, that. :P
- You! Or maybe other people, I dunno. :P
- Um, cool.
I've always thought this forum was pretty cool. Admittedly I think it's gotten more spammy and less intelligent lately, but whatever. I lurk because I'm loathe to post in huge threads because I will no doubt lose the thread of any conversation I assume after just a few pages (especially because of Jolt's retarded posting system), and I'm not a huge fan of "yeah, I agree with that guy" posts.
It would be nice, I think, if we had a few more boards for NSG. Something I've thought about for a while. We certainly deserve them, looking at Jolt's board stats.
Hi. I'm a lurker. :P

Don't worry, we're an accepting crowd. Now tell me what your thoughts are on the principle of locality and how the EPR paradox shows how it may conflict with quantum mechanics in general? No pressure or anything, but we're totally judging you on your reply to this.

Hello, I lurk on NSG post rarely but have a somewhat larger presence on II
I'm an American from the state of Kentucky
I lurk because I'm not a big fan of debating as I am poorly versed in most topics, but I like seeing others opinions
I've been lurking since Nov-Dec 2006 (a bit after my start date)

I post only when I really feel like I have something really important to add, or sometimes by random impulse

I think we can't really understand these things at the moment, because we don't have a very strong idea of how Quantum Mechanics work. It's all very mysterious at this point. I'm not myself a scientist, so I can't really give an educated opinion. In general, though, I think we should continue to make inquiry.

not its not creepy but the most common thing that happens to newbies (except the ones you have noticed get off to a flamboyantly incorrect start) is that they get ignored and feel unwanted.

Why do you lurk?
Cause it's fun to read NSG, but participating is daunting.

Fairly often. I use it for random entertainment and news. Though the two rarely happen together anymore since DCD went bye-bye.

Yes. However, when you are attempting to beat Lunatic Goofballs with a wet noodle, please film it. I'd like to see whether he retaliates with pies or tacos. Or some combination thereof.

Beige Nonentities
21-07-2008, 21:16
My newly-created-for-this-post identity is Beige Nonentities, and I'm a long-time lurker.
I lurk partly because most of the things I want to say in response to the threads I read have already been said by the time I get there, but also because I know that some of the trolling that takes place would lead to me getting sucked into a prolonged spat with people who don't even really believe the positions that they're arguing, and it seems to me that getting involved would be a complete waste of time, for me and for them.
I've lurked this forum for what seems like years, ever since it appeared in the jolt forum list. I still do. I like it because there are, from time to time, some genuinely interesting threads (albeit that most of the interest (for me) stems from the answers posted by a small core of rational people in answer to whatever the irrational position of the trolls happens to be on that particular day). There are also some people who seem to have some level of bona fide expertise on certain subjects, and I find their opinions and interpretations on things serve as a springboard for me to go off and learn about the stuff for myself.
Regardless of what some of the long-time posters might say, there is a clique, or rather several cliques, on here. Some of these people were posting recently bemoaning the state of things in the forum in the "save NSG" thread, or whatever it was called. Ironically, some of these same people are the ones who I've seen time and again in threads on other topics, batting inanities back and forth between themselves. Perhaps they think that such displays are endearing and perhaps, to them, they are. To an outsider, however, they just underscore the exclusionary feeling that reading NSG generates. It's a bit of a shame.

Anyway, I have been here quite a bit longer than this account says, but I qualify as a lurker either way so who cares.
I usually lurk, but when I get the urge to post something that I think has been or will be posted, then I just post and delete it after about 5 seconds. That way I can feel I have gotten my point out and still remain mostly unnoticed.
I rarely actually make posts and keep them, but when I do I usually regret it, so yeha...

Hi. I'm Falani, and I'm a lurker
Why do you lurk?
While reading General is an enjoyable experience, posting feels like diving headlong into a pool of sharks, some admittedly more friendly than others.
How long have you been lurking?
Check my join date. I started regurarly watching the forums a couple months after that.
How often do you lurk here?
Usually once every two or three days. More often if a thread I'm particularly interested in is active
Do you often fail to post because someone else already said what you wanted to?
That happens sometimes, yeah.
If so, who says what you wanted to say? (so we can beat them with a wet noodle of course)
I don't really remember their names. Mostly whoever happens to be the first to disagree with the latest troll, or poke holes in the other sides arguements.

If so, who says what you wanted to say?I can;'t say I want to say anything. I may just ask God to smite you all godless heathens.
I see you, and NSG neeeeeeeds new people, so post! :)Done.

Who are you?
I'm called Hayden, I'm a Guy From the UK.
Why do you lurk?
I've been wanting to contribute to the forums (especially) the role playing bits, for few days but college coursework keeps dragging me away.
How long have you been lurking?
About 15 Days
How often do you lurk here?
About every couple of days when i log in.
Do you often fail to post because someone else already said what you wanted to?
If so, who says what you wanted to say? (so we can beat them with a wet noodle of course)
Urrm no, i just don't have time to post!
So dose that mean it's my fault i don't post? Please don't beat me with a wet noodle! :hail:
Right now that I've finished rambling i have work to do.

I usually lurk, but when I get the urge to post something that I think has been or will be posted, then I just post and delete it after about 5 seconds. That way I can feel I have gotten my point out and still remain mostly unnoticed.
That's rather... unique. I like it.
Hi. I'm Falani, and I'm a lurker.
You're not kidding, either.
Either way: Hi all you lurkers. Post moar.
I am Articoa.
I lurk because I have nothing to say, someone took my idea, or I just don't feel like it. :)
Not long.
Every other day, give or take.
Yes, yes, yes. Someone will always beat me to the punch line. But it's all good.
I can't think of anyone specific though...:(

Howdy.
I lurk because I simply don't have much to add to many discussions.
...Oh yeah, I'm also lazy.
I've been around in many incarnations, though this nation is the longest-lived I've ever posted on. Started sometime before the move to Jolt, so quite a few years.
Most days I can be seen perusing the threads on the front page, though NSG is mostly just a background distraction from a good book or game.
There aren't many times someone else says what I want to say. When it does happen, usually the ideal is expressed better by the other poster, so I am satisfied that the point is made.

Who are you?
-Hi, I'm Brandesax and I'm a lurker
Why do you lurk?
-A mix of complete boredom, interest in what's going on, and not wanting to post.
How long have you been lurking?
-Never bothered keeping track, but just about as long as I've been on Nation States
How often do you lurk here?
-At least once or twice a week
Do you often fail to post because someone else already said what you wanted to?
-That, and I usually don't find anything of interest for me. Also, sometimes I get a bit intimidated by some of the more intelligent debates that happen.
If so, who says what you wanted to say? (so we can beat them with a wet noodle of course)
-Never bothered to keep track of it.

Hello, I'm one of those lurkers of which you speak of. I'm Kyr. I'm a bit shy.
I've been lurking since ... well, whenever it says I joined. And I lurk often. Whenever an interesting thread pops up, which is quite often.
I don't post because I usually don't have much to say...

Hello all, I'm Eofaerwic
All: Hello Eofaerwic
And I'm a recovering lurker (All: Applause). I've tried really hard to get over my lurkerdom but every time I manage to get over my lurkerdom and start posting I can only manage it for a few weeks before RL gets too much and the threads start spiraling out of control. Then I end up relapsing into lurking.
More seriously. I don't necessarily consider myself a lurker as I do contribute but I tend to find that threads i get involved in either stop very quickly afterwards or spiral into 10-20 pages which I just don't have time to wade through. The net result is a low post count. Although I'm sure if words were used as opposed to unique posts, it would be significantly higher (I tend to be somewhat overly verbose).

Hi, my name is Sean and I'm a lurker. Here is my first post. Cherish this historic moment :)
Who are you?
I live in New Zealand and am currently in my last year of university study.
Why do you lurk?
Because I never feel anything I can say will be that witty or profound, or it's already been said, or I don't know enough about the topic at hand to add anything to the debate. Plus I guess it can be somewhat daunting to post. Even with the anonymous protection the internet provides, trying to write something intelligent seems like a big deal (reflected in the way I have edited this over and over). At least on things like bebo, you knew it was only ever going to be friends reading it. Posting on a place like this forum where there are a lot of opinionated people who don't know anything about you seems less-than-inviting.
How long have you been lurking?
Since my fine nation was born.
How often do you lurk here?
Nearly everyday. After killing off my bebo which I felt I had invested far too much of myself in, nationstates seems to be filling the gap. Joy :)
Do you often fail to post because someone else already said what you wanted to?
Sure.
Edit/ Have just made my first thread... Not to advertise it or anything... I've gone from lurking to posting to making my own thread in minutes. The power of the internets... Now to watch my thread wither and die.

I do post occaisionnally, but what with work filters, my old nation being unable to access the forums, and my own laziness i dont post so much anymore.
Hi, I'm Hobabwe, and i'm a lurker.
I've been here for a while (years) now, i read the forums most every day, i don't post much cause by the time i get a thread my point has usually been made by more eloquent people.
I do get drawn into the ocasional discussion though.
I hate lurkers, they kill your troops if you don't have a probe or science vessel nearby to detect them.
Hi, I am a moderate lurker.
Why do I lurk?
I tend to qualify my english as not good enough to post most of the time, although it is good for reading. Plus, I prefer to participate only in threads where I can support my opinions on real facts and first hand knowledge.
I have been in NS for five years, but I usually use the general forums just as a window to read what people think about actual issues.

I'm mittsville and i am a lurker. I have been for some time now (look at join date) and i still read NSG every so often. I prefer not to post too much because i enjoy reading what other people want to say and don't want to get sucked into a world of pointless debates. i dont have too much time for NS recently so i dont want to get into topics where i find myself checking back on them constantly.
At least i can be in a lurking clique now. Woo.

hey, I'm and on again off again lurker. I started reading NSG back in '05, posted an abortion thread (under another name) which was fun, o, and a circumcision one. Been doing a lot more posting lately, so maybe you've seen me around, or not. Yea, when your posts get ignored, its kinda disheartening, but w/e that just means I'm right :P .

It's strange because I feel like I know so many of you, and none of you really know me. I've been lurking for a year-ish. I'm a 23-year-old living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (but not from here) with a degree in Philosophy, and I'm about to begin a degree in English Education.
I'm on pretty much every day that I work (Sat-Wed). I don't often post because people have indeed said what I wanted to say. Usually, these people are as follows:
Often: Ashmoria
Somewhat often: Jocabia
A bit less often: Heikoku
Never: Hotwife ;-)
I like to think that Joc and Heik know who I am because I played Devil's Advocate in one of the election threads, arguing with them about Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama. This may or may not be the case. I also started one thread concerning art censorship in classrooms. I believe it was called "Censorship in Art Class" or some such.
Anyway, I'd like to be more active, but it's difficult to stay active enough to gain a reputation and have a healthy supply of opponents and/or responders.

As far as you that said nobody reads your posts, I do! You guys just hardly ever say anything I feel the need to comment on, meaning either I agree with you or you just aren't extreme enough or stupid enough for my energy.
Smart reasonable people, you aren't ignored! You just aren't trolling so you get less attention. :(

Then they wouldn't be able to make their gun smiley's visible to the public. They love showing off gun smileys.

...wait...
Well, ok then:
Hi. I'm Lerkistan, and compared to you, I'm a lurker.
No need to answer your other questions as the answers have already been given.
Neesika -- there's a sticky about it. You can save the threads you want by posting links to them.
This raises an interesting question - does jolt actually count posts per user everytime the post count is displayed somewhere? Sure, saving the post count for each poster would be redundant, but... performance... it's not like there's too much of it on these forums. Or maybe there is actually a mechanism that reduces the post count when posts are deleted?
edit: Actually, this makes sense. That way, if someone posts obvious +1 spam, deleting will reduce the post count, which would reduce spam as soon as the spammer realises that.
...another reason for me not to post more is this awful tendency to edit posts again and again...

I think my post count is too high for me to be considered a lurker any more.
*abandons account*
The first time I posted with my first NS account (circa 2004) was in one of these types of thread...
Who are you?
---Soynut.
Why do you lurk?
---I (usually) enjoy reading what people have to say about complex topics.
How long have you been lurking?
---Four years or so.
How often do you lurk here?
---Almost every day.
Do you often fail to post because someone else already said what you wanted to?
---Pretty much, yes. There is no single person running around posting what I would have posted, but if I see my point being made somewhere in the thread, I'm not inclined to jump in only to post that I agree with so-and-so. Considering the size and speed of this forum, it really never happens that no one at all has made the point I'd like to see made in a thread I'm paying attention to.

I've become a late blooming lurker. I used to post frequently (like 2500 posts the first few months). But as NSG has become more like highschool my post frequency has gone way down.
Though on other forums I still post moderately frequently.

I am a lurker, but used to post here quite often under a few different names. Kept losing my nation because I couldn't be bothered logging in, so I got deleted. But I won't be a lurker for long!!!
I lurk because I only post if I have something to say that no one else has or if someone is saying something incredibly stupid. Usually when someone is being an idiot there's someone more articulate than myself arguing either my position or something similar, so I rarely need to say anything.
